Fan Fiction ❯ Hybrid Genesis ❯ Daybreak ( Chapter 12 )
Daybreak
Night seemed to be creeping up over the sky. Chance didn't notice it as he stood, his demon tail twitching back and forth. He saw Seks fly forward. He knew that exhilaration and adrenaline were the only things that were keeping the silver-haired hybrid going. He walked forward a few steps, stopping as he saw Stixx smile. Stixx was staring straight at him. There was a strange split second of pure silence before the huge eruption.
Dirt and grass sprung from the ground as if alive, hidden rocks like bullets as they flew straight up into the air. Seks maneuvered around them, heading straight for Stixx. Stixx held up a hand and Seks felt the pure power as he was pushed backwards. That was when claws wrapped around his collar, ripping it off.
"..." Seks stared a moment before all he saw was red. "Master told me to never take that off!" he growled, pressing forward and actually tackling Stixx to the ground.
Chance looked back and forth, finally running towards Deuce and Unk. He failed to wake them, but was relieved to feel that both of them had a pulse. That was when he saw Madi. Madi was laughing quietly, holding a gun. He saw the bullet exit the gun and enter Catte. Chance swore, but ran as fast as he could to get to Catte.
It was obviously too late. Madi turned, and fired right into his chest. Chance stopped right where he was, his eyes widening in shock. Pain seemed to flow through every part of his body. He made a soft moaning sound and was alarmed to feel something building up in his throat. He opened his mouth and blood trickled out. He gasped a few times, trying to breathe, but couldn't.
Madi fired the gun again and Chance fell to his knees, struggling to live. His body was fruitlessly trying to heal around the bullet, but the bullet seemed to be spreading throughout his body like an insane virus. He closed his eyes in pain, his angelic wings that had no feathers twitching. Oh gods, the pain was so horrible. He heard the gun again, and felt another pain, the third in his chest.
He fell forward, his body convulsing as sharp pain enveloped him. The hybrid gene was keeping him alive throughout this excruciating torture, but even so... He closed his eyes and Madi walked away. Madi smirked, then turned around and fired a fourth bullet. It struck Chance through the back, right in the heart.
"Such a pity, but it was necessary." Madi said, walking away.
Seks hissed in anger as he ripped through the skin and flesh angrily. He couldn't believe how much the demonic arm was able to take from him. The pain must have been incredible as Seks shredded it apart with his claws. Stixx hadn't even winced. He felt a strong bloody tail wrap around his waist and he ripped it away from him, his anger boiling over critical.
"How dare you touch my masters' possessions!"
Stixx smiled calmly. "It's very beautiful, isn't it?"
Seks stopped what he was doing a moment and looked at the pitiful collar that was lying on the ground, the leash near it. He snarled, wrapping his fingers around Stixx' neck. "I don't want to hear your voice."
"Stixx!" Madi called. "I thought you were going to get rid of him."
Stixx closed his eyes and whispered, "Yes master."
Seks screamed as tentacles wrapped around his waist. The twitching appendages lifted him into the air, and Stixx slowly pushed himself up with mostly the use of his human arm.
//How can he keep going?! It doesn't make sense...//
Stixx withdrew his tentacles and Seks fell to the ground. Seks flapped his damaged wings, managing to slow his fall, but still he hit the ground. His body ached horribly and he rolled on his side, seeing Chance. His eyes widened, and he leaped from where he was, flying low over the ground to Chance. Before he reached the demon hybrid, Stixx was before him suddenly.
He backed away. Stixx smirked, his eyes once again appearing to be red instead of maroon. Stixx reached forward, grabbing hold of Seks' hair. "It's really beautiful. Too bad I'm going to have to cut it."
Out of nowhere, something flashed by from the sky, knocking Stixx over. Stixx grumbled to himself, pushing himself to a sitting position. Seks looked up to see Sinqo, landing softly. Sinqo looked around a little bit, her eyes starting to water. Sinqo ran over to Catte, and fell to her knees, crying.
Seks paid no attention to Sinqo, and instead stood to face Stixx. Stixx looked at him calmly, the dark of night enveloping him completely until only the burning red eyes stared at him. The circle pendant that had the feather inside glowed a green color and it spun around a few times. Seks narrowed his eyes.
There was a loud swooshing sound. Huge black wings spread wide from Stixx' back, a few feathers floating from them to fall to the ground. He flapped them a few times, smiling, and then flew straight at Seks.
Seks forced his own wings to work, managing to fly straight up and avoid the impact narrowly. Stixx didn't give up, and flew up after him. Seks spiraled into the sky, aware that Stixx was very close behind.
Stixx touched the pointed cross pendant and it glowed a dark blue. A long item appeared in his hands, shaped much like the cross. The end was pointed, just like the cross. It was a sword. Stixx smiled and swiped it through the air, hearing a small whistling sound as the sword cut through the air.
He caught up with Seks, and smiled as he effectively blocked the hybrids' path. "This really is so much fun. I haven't had this much fun in... Ages..."
Seks growled. "I do not find this `fun'."
Stixx looked sad a moment. "No, I didn't think `you' would. Too bad."
Stixx flew forward, feeling the point of his sword graze across Seks' stomach. Seks winced, his wings aching from their twisted positions and their overuse. Seks knew that hybrids' weren't made for flying for long distances at once. He flew backwards again, feeling the sting of metal as the blade caught his arm this time. He had a very bad disadvantage.
"I really wish you would join me. We could take over the world together. I wouldn't have to listen to Madi... He doesn't really have control over me you know."
"You should always listen to your master!" Seks said, knowing how untruthful that sounded.
"Well, I don't..." Stixx smirked. "And you didn't for a while either."
Seks' eyes blazed. "That was different!"
"And how was it any different? You didn't want to listen to your master, and to tell you the truth, I don't want to either."
"I had no choice!" Seks said fiercely. "I love my master!"
"He doesn't love you!"
"He does!" Seks insisted, feeling the pain in his wings spreading to his new cuts. Even if he tried his best to hide it, it was obvious he was tired.
Stixx laughed. "Don't tell me I'm going to make you cry."
"I'm not crying..."
"If you insist on listening to your master, you will die. You will never be free."
"I..."
"I'm free. I never want to listen to anyone again. Especially someone that I could kill so easily. Let's create a revolution for the hybrids. Let's bring every hybrid with us and overrun this pitiful humanized world. We're the powerful ones, let's show it!"
"No!" Seks said, shaking his head as if that would convince Stixx.
Sinqo cried, picking Catte up in her arms. Catte was obviously dead, but that information didn't want to process with Sinqo's fragile mind. She rocked back and forth, running her fingers through Catte's short hair. Her tears fell on Catte's face as she leaned over her older `sister'.
"No, no, no, no, no..." She mumbled over and over. "It can't be, no, no, no, this isn't true..."
Even if no one knew, Sinqo had been deep in love with Catte. She had always admired the strength that Catte had shown in situations that she knew she would never have been able to handle. She admired that Catte stood up to Unk and Deuce, even though they were so much more powerful than her.
"Why?" she said in a choked sob. "I loved you! And you promised me. You promised me you would come back!"
She pulled Catte close to her, crying louder. Their golden skin meshed together like they were one person. Sinqo leaned over Catte, her lips touching her `sisters' lifeless lips. She slowly pushed her tongue inside the unresponsive mouth, kissing her as hard and passionately as she could. She might have been the youngest, but she was a pleasure slave and knew what she was doing.
Still, Catte didn't move. Sinqo's tears still fell as she kissed her `sister', the tears running over Catte's cheeks as if the dead girl herself was crying. Sinqo released the love of her life, finally accepting that the girl was dead.
She crawled across the ground, towards Unk and Deuce. She felt their warm skin, faintly cooling in the darkening night. She leaned on Unk, crying softly. She curled up in a ball, feeling completely pitiful.
After a while, she looked around, seeing Chance. She crawled towards the other hybrid, wondering who he was. She sensed a presence and looked up. A gun was pointed at her face.
"Do you want to die?" asked a voice.
Sinqo felt new tears falling down her face. "Are you an angel?" Two bullets fired into her chest and she closed her eyes, slumping over Chance.
Chiave opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling. She wiped a hand over her face, feeling a pain in her chest. She wasn't quite sure what it was, but she knew something bad had happened. She rubbed her chest, the spot right over her heart. She rolled over, feeling for a tissue, but instead felt a hand.
She sat up, staring at one of her other hybrids. "What do you want?"
"I am sorry..." the creature said, disappearing from the room.
Chiave sighed and settled back on the bed. "This sucks so bad." she muttered.
Chance hovered in darkness, feeling warm for the first time ever. In fact, it was really hot. He felt sweat dripping down his face, and he moved his hand to wipe it off. He stepped forward through the darkness, surprised when he fell. His bony wings did nothing to stop his fall, and he landed in a heap after he was sure he had been falling forever. Strangely, he didn't hurt anywhere, and stood quite easily.
"Where am I?" he said to himself.
Around him he saw fiery rings blazing with orange and dark red flames. Some of them burned blue and white as well. He approached one of them, jumping back when flames erupted at his feet. A wall of fire reached up to the sky... Or well, upwards at least. It subsided after a while, disappearing into the ground... Or from wherever.
He turned around when he heard laughter, wondering who it was. He didn't recognize the voice at all, and was even more surprised to hear a feminine voice as the masculine one continued to laugh.
"It's not time." the feminine voice said, and Chance suddenly felt like he was wrapped up in a cocoon. He struggled weakly, but it was no use. Darkness fell over his eyes like a blindfold and he felt like his body was slowly disappearing.
Axis paced a few times. He had been doing that ever since Sinqo had left them. He wasn't sure when she was coming back, and hoped it was soon. It seemed to be getting colder as the night continued. Croix was standing at the edge of the cliff, staring off somewhere.
"What are you looking at?" he finally asked. Croix didn't answer, so he repeated his question, louder. "What are you looking at?"
Croix shook his head as if to snap himself out of whatever he had been thinking. He slowly looked back to Axis. "Oh, nothing." he responded.
Axis narrowed his eyes. "Okay." There was silence again. "When do you think Sinqo will be back?"
"I don't know." Croix said softly.
Axis didn't know why, but that voice bugged him even more than the silence. Suddenly a searing pain shot through his heart and he crumpled to the ground, clutching his chest. Croix turned and went to him.
"What's wrong?"
"I-I... My heart... Hurts so bad..." Axis gasped out.
Croix looked up to the sky and noticed that the stars and the moon were slowly fading. He closed his eyes, a strange calm settling over him. Then pain shot through his heart as well. He fell to his knees. It was an agonizing pain, but he didn't seem to be as bad as Axis.
Axis was twitching every once in a while as pain coursed through his body. Then, as soon as it had come, it disappeared. He gasped a few times, taking in the air as if he had been suffocating. Croix' felt the pain within him disappear too.
They slowly stood together, their breaths shaky. They exchanged a glance, then looked to the sky. The darkness was disappearing from the sky, the light pouring over the sky. Croix closed his eyes, remembering something.
//And then the light will pour through as the stars, until enough of them come to grow large and big to tear open the darkness so the sun may shine again...//
Croix let out a final shaky breath as his pulse and heartbeat returned to normal. "Daybreak." he murmured softly. Axis said nothing, letting the cool breeze ripple through their hair.
"You're a fool!" Stixx shouted, grabbing the sword tighter in his hands. He sliced down, feeling the satisfaction as the sword met with flesh, ripping it apart easily.
Seks let out a strangled cry, his chest bleeding profusely. "I can't do it, even if I wanted to! Croix is too... Too important to me." Seks felt tears falling down his cheeks now, unhindered. "I'll die for him."
