Fan Fiction ❯ Hybrid Genesis ❯ Chance ( Chapter 7 )
Chance
Darkness, cold and dark, no light, only the dark... and so cold. The creature shifted uncomfortably in the darkness, trying to control the movements of its body. Trying to wake up and open his eyes, to claw his way out of the darkness. He knew he was powerful. He had the power... yes, the dangerous glinting claws and sharp teeth ready for action. He paused, his long curved ears twitching a few times, the tufts of light green hair on the ends ruffling from his slight movement.
BREAK FREE!
Claws tore at the thing that encased him, the cold burning into his skin like ferocious fire. He snarled and growled, roared and snapped, clawing away the thing that held him. Thin light blue ribbons snapped from his fingers, shimmering a few times as they were abandoned before crumbling away. He gasped for breath, whirling around in the thing that held him, lashing out with his claws and arms, feeling his fingers touching something cold and hard.
MUST, BREAK, FREE...!
He leaned against the cool interior of his prison, rubbing his impossibly hot cheek against its rough surface. It felt softer now. Very much softer. He backed away and curled into a ball on instinct. His long demon tail lashed back and forth a few times in anticipation before curling around his legs like a thin rope. The barbed end didn't touch his skin, keeping a few inches away for his protection. His wings; shaped like angels but with no feathers at all, fluttered angrily. They were almost only bone, a thin veil of skin and muscle spanning between the bones to create almost completely see-through fragile wings. He'd never be able to fly with those.
GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE!
His instinct told him to duck his head. Short dark red hair glimmered from slick wetness that appeared from nowhere. Two long strands hung over his shoulders, striped with black. He closed his eyes, dark green flecked with gold disappearing behind pale eyelids. He grimaced as his surroundings started to shake violently. A crack appeared from the walls around him, shining a dim light on his pale skin. It revealed two stripes on each shoulder, both just slightly darker than his skin. Between the two stripes on both sides, was another stripe. This one was shaped like a crescent, and was almost black in color.
IT'S TIME.
The floor rumbled dangerously and he curled up tighter, shaking his head between his knees. He didn't want to die now. He had just been born. Was this normal? Why didn't anyone tell him what to expect? After all, he was just a lowly hybrid made to serve human kind. Serve their every need. He was a red type of course, just a warrior. He was made to protect his master. He was a golden type, with a bit of black. It meant that he was a demonic monster, with something of a human too. It was a very rare kind indeed. Mixing humans with the unnatural was dangerous of course... You needed a special permit for that... But here he was, being created by someone who had no such thing. What kind of monstrosity would he become?
IT'S TIME FOR ME TO MEET MY MASTER!
The walls broke down, dissipating into thin air. He blinked a few times, his eyes cringing from the dim light that seemed so impossibly bright. He was alert immediately, hearing sounds and voices. He knew that people were looking at him. One stepped forward. From the creatures' new memory, he recognized the outfit to be either something of a scientist or a doctor. The person was definitely human, and looked very pleased. He had short golden hair and light grey-blue eyes. He smiled charmingly.
He's my master...
"I am Axis... and you, are Chance." the man said in a smooth and pleasant voice.
The creature now known as Chance relaxed at the voice, recognizing and storing it to know as his master. He nodded swiftly, standing up straight and alert, his tail only twitching slightly. He cared very little that he was naked. All he knew was that he had to be at attention for his master, ready to protect him if necessary. He heard more voices and his eyes adjusted to see more people. He was ready to attack immediately.
"No Chance, these are friends of mine. You will treat them with respect..." Axis' voice lowered. "And will do everything they ask of you..."
Chance did not make a motion to indicate he heard, save for the twitch of his ears. Then he opened his mouth and in a deep voice responded. "Sir, yes sir!"
Here begins the second Saga. This will feature all new characters and a completely different storyline. Not to worry though, Croix and no-name will be back as soon as the author can think of something witty and entertaining for them to do. Heh, I wasn't supposed to say that now was I? Please don't stop reading this story because of the change, I promise the others will be back... And who knows, you may come to like these guys. Please, enjoy!
Chance stood as straight as he could, his tail pointing straight down. His right arm hung at his side, the other bent at the elbow to lean on as well as hold up the large sword he was holding. The tip of the blade was slightly embedded into the thick concrete to the left of him as he had used a bit too much power during the experimentation. He didn't care what happened to the man he had fought against though. As far as he knew, all that mattered to him was that Axis remained safe. That was the most important objective of all.
Chance stood even straighter as someone walked from the room he was guarding. The large door swung shut and he noted someone passing by. The person stopped and turned. Chance let his curiosity get the better of him and he peeked. It was Madi, one of Axis' friends. He relaxed slightly, but not completely. He couldn't help the way his tail curled dangerously every time the man was near.
Madi approached Chance, and Chance had to fight the urge to cringe most unpleasantly. Chance couldn't understand why he hated the man so much. It wasn't that Madi was unsightly. He most definitely wasn't. The man was young, maybe in his mid-twenties. He was Axis' second-in-command. He had long hair that was darker than his masters'. Cold dark blue eyes gained his attention and Chance looked at the man. They were the same height, which for a human was rare. Most hybrids were much taller then humans.
"I request your attention." Madi said politely.
"I cannot leave my masters' side." Chance said, feeling very dirty all of a sudden. Madis' eyes were roaming over his body in a way he was sure he didn't like.
"Your `master' has given me permission, now come." Madi said, accenting his anger slightly in the last word. Chance balked a moment but then resigned himself to his fate, lifting the heavy sword and sliding it into the sheath that hung from his belt. "Leave the weapon." Madi said, and Chance slid the belt from his waist, letting it fall to the ground with a loud clatter. Madi hissed in anger, but stalked away leaving Chance to follow.
He turned a corner and then stopped, confused. He saw the only door that was open and cautiously approached it. He didn't speak, not wanting a possible enemy to hear. He entered the room and whirled around as the door slammed behind him. Madi stood there grinning. Chance backed away, confused. His instincts told him to run as Madi approached, and he would have if his legs were listening. His instincts told him to turn around instead, and he did.
Chance gasped at the sight he saw. Axis was lying on a large bed, tied up helplessly. A girl was fingering his chest. Chance turned back to Madi. "What is the meaning of--- AUGH!"
Chance fell to the ground, gasping for breath he didn't have. Madi towered over him, holding a long rod that radiated with electricity. Chance felt drool fall from his open mouth as he panted for breath to stand back up and fight. He pushed off the floor, willing his body to cooperate and protect his master. Madi giggled insanely.
"What do you mean? My darling beloved wanted a playtoy and I had to get her one. She wanted your `master', Axis. I can deny her nothing she wants, and I cannot stop her from loving someone other than me. Just, if I can make her happy and she stays with me... I will sacrifice that, just to be near her."
"You fool!" Axis yelled.
The woman slapped him hard and then forced her tongue into his mouth, which he immediately bit down hard on. She growled and slapped him again making his eyes cross from the force of the blow. He managed to spit in her face and she started beating on him with her fists, angered and distraught from his actions.
Chance had no time to get to his master. Madi advanced on him like a prowling tiger. He giggled piteously. "I... love her you know. She loves him. Him! Him! Always, never... Me... Me, it's supposed to be ME!!"
"Crazy... bastard..." Axis managed to cough out.
"SHUT UP!" Madi yelled, taking his anger for Axis out on Chance.
Chance dodged to the side, barely escaping from a particularly nasty blow from the electric rod. He fell to the side, his right arm snapping from the weight he had put on it when he had dodged. He gave a gasp of surprise and sharp pain, cradling it to his stomach desperately. He ran forward, surprising Madi, but at the last second dodged to the left, and running to Axis and the woman.
He screamed as he was pulled off his feet. He wrenched his neck around to glare from the corner of his eye, seeing Madi holding the rod. It had now extended with claws to grab his neck and hang him there. He was a good five feet off the ground. He flailed his legs wildly, clawing at the things holding his neck. It was no good.
After a little while, he could think no more. His mind was foggy from the lack of air and he couldn't breathe. The last thing he could remember was that he had failed. Failure meant death. He didn't care. He couldn't protect his master. He deserved to die.
