Fan Fiction ❯ I found my other half ❯ Child in the shooting ally ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

It was a warm summer day in Hyrule.

The sky had finally cleared after a whole week with cold rain, leaving everything nice and clean. But the best thing about rain was the smell it left behind afterwards , the smell of freshness, it reminded him of the forest he held so close to his heart.

Link, the hero of time, now 17 years old, inhaled deeply through his nose, closed his eyes, and let the new day overwhelm him with all it's wonderful smells and sounds.

Children were fooling around in the market, enjoying their first day out after a whole lot of time indoors. The adults shopping, talking and haggling down prices on their wares. Music to the young Hylian's ears.

A typical day in Hyrule market.

At first, Link had been angry at his princess for sending him seven years back in time, which meant that his journey would go unnoticed, no one would know about his heroic deeds for the golden land he loved so much. It all existed because of him. No one would ever show him any kind of gratitude, all except form the sages, of course. But he soon understood that going back to those seven years he had lost, was the best gift she could have given him.

It gave him time to grow up the normal way, and not being forced to mature over the night, Now he could learn the slow way, the best way.

He got to spend more time with Saria, who was a sage and knew about his journey for Hyrule, and clearly showed how proud she really was of him, which made Mido even MORE jealous, if that was possible, then he was before.

But Link knew that he had to grow up someday.. And on the day he turned 15 he could no longer stay in the kokiri forest, he was already much taller then all of the kokiri children, and their childish games was no longer fun for him.. Even the Skullkids had begun to attack him when he made his way through the lost woods. So he left for Kakariko Village, which were -to Links surprise- Not just home for Hyrilians...But also to the sheikahs.

Now he had lived in the small village for two happy years.

Link got his money from Lon Lon Ranch, Talon, Ingo and Malon needed all the help they could get to keep the busy ranch going. Sometimes he tamed the new horses which Talon bought from the Gerudos. Other times he delivered milk to the castle with Malon so they both could say 'hi' To Zelda, who was more then happy to get a brake from the busy life in the castle.

If he needed some extra pocket money to buy something h could easily get a job from Impa, Like ridding her temple from Like-Likes, or delivering messages to the other sages.

But today it was Saturday.. That meant the whole day off...But no one to spend his free time with. Malon had to work while Zelda had some kind of important meeting with the King of their neighbour kingdom, much too complicated for Link to take part in.

So the young blonde Hylian sat down at one of the benches and decided to just enjoy the peace as long as it lasted.

"Li-ink!" Link cracked an eye open and moaned, his gaze landed on a slim boy with dirty-blond hair and big, expressive blue eyes who came running towards him with a bottle with blue liquid in his arms. Link bit his lip and sighed softly before he sat up.

"Hello, Jay!" Link sent the boy a warm smile, which was gladly returned

Jay was the youngest son of the owner the potion shop, Link had run into him one day he was buying some green potions for Impa, and he couldn't help but notice that the boy looked very unhappy about something. And Link, being the caring young man he was, had wanted to cheer the little guy up; Children were not supposed to be sad!

The hero soon found out that Jay had broken his slingshot, and therefore, couldn't play with the others. So Link had given him his own fairly slingshot, since he was much too old to use it.

"Hi!" Replied Jay.

"My dad told me to give this to you! It's for Miss Impa!" Jay told Link, and held out the bottle. Link took it and put it into his tunic.

"Ok, I'll make sure she gets it" Link assured him. Jay smiled and put one of his dirty hands down his pocket while he rubbed his small freckled nose with the other.

"Wanna see how good I have become?" Jay suddenly asked Link, and pulled up the hero of time's old, but well made slingshot.

Link smiled and nodded. And with a few exited giggles Jay bent down and picked up a small rock from the ground and loaded the slingshot, before looking around for a target,

He spotted a young girl with a yellow fluffy dress who was running around in the market, playing with a small brown dog. Link saw the mischievous look in Jay's eyes and frowned.

"He-ey" Link laid a hand over the slingshot as the young boy started to aim for the girl. Jay looked up at him with a sheepish look.

"If you want to show me how good you have become.. Why don't we go to the shooting ally?" Jay nodded and lowered the slingshot.

~*~

The shooting ally was pretty full of people, both adults and children.

The adults were mostly men, and were there because children were not allowed to shoot unless they had passed the age of 9. Link Paid the owner 20 rupees and got Jay 15 deku nuts for his slingshot. Link blinked and looked down at the anxious boy who was tugging his tunic and watching the boy who had walked up to the red mark on the floor and started shooting.

"Wow! Look at him! He's good!" Link smiled wryly and silently agreed with Jay, The boy-or girl for that matter, was wielding his or her slingshot masterfully! As soon as one rupee was shot down, another followed, it didn't even seem like the child was aiming! Link frowned slightly at the sight of the slingshot the child was using, it was an old one, made of a tree with dark wood, Link rubbed his chin thoughtfully and tried to remember where he had seen it before.. Then it him; It was exactly like his own fairy slingshot! But how could a child possess an artefact that only could be found in the Deku Three?

Link studied the child's body, which was hard, because of the big hooded cloak he or she was wearing, but Link could tell, by the person's height that it was not a kokiri.

And by the way the child moved gave Link an impression of that he or she was very skilled with weapons. Every movement was put an effort into, it held a hidden grace that fascinated the young hero. But every now and then The child would turn around swiftly, making black strands of hair sway out of the hood.

Link cocked an eyebrow, he had never seen a person with black hair before, not even the sheikas had black hair. Link bent down to his knees and drew Jay close before whispering into his ear.

"Do you know who that is?" Jay shook his head.

"No, I have never seen him before.. Look at his hair!" The little boy whispered anxiously back and covered his mouth to stifle a giggle.

Right then the last purple rupee fell to the floor in thousand pieces, and the child turned around. Link gasped and held back a surprised cry,

Ruby eyes were staring at him through the darkness of the hood.

He would have recognized those soulful eyes anytime!

A sharp gasp rang through the air.

The dark fairy slingshot fell to the ground with a sharp noise ,the dark child had spotted Link .

"Dark Link!" Link whispered to himself, and saw his own name take form on the other's lips, though no sound came. It had to be his evil half, the child looked exactly like him as child, only with dark hair and a deadly pale skin colour.

Dark Link backed off with a shocked expression on his face. The shadow child panicked and looked for a possible escape route. Link knew that it was no way for the other half to escape through, He captured ark Link's gaze in his own.

"Ok, my turn! Watch me, Link!" Jay ran over to the mark right besides Dark Link before Link could stop him, Link bared his teeth and curled his fingers around his bow, Dark Link's eyes followed his movements.

`touch him and die' he mouthed to Dark Link, who quickly backed away from Jay and up against the wall, He shook his head in terror, his read eyes were wide in fear.

Jay did pretty well, he didn't let too many rupees get away, but he lacked the grace and elegance that Dark Link possessed and therefore he didn't have the speed to re-load his slingshot or turn quickly enough to shoot all the rupees.

Link faked a smile and when Jay came running over to him, with a proud smile gracing his features. Link didn't want to worry the young Hylian, or make any of the big adults believe that he was about to shoot a defenceless child.

Because that was wrong;

Dark Link was no child, he was as old as himself, maybe even older,

And he was NOT defenceless! The shadow possessed every weapon he did, even if they were too big for him to wield.

"See, Link? How was I?" Link smiled to Jay and gave the little boy's shoulder a light squeeze. The hero of time's features was relaxed and carefree, but his eyes were cold and pinning The dark form of himself up against the wall in a deadly glare, the shadow didn't move a muscle.
