Chapter 10
“Well, now I’m in the picture, but what about the Heart? I have heard of its power but I have never seen it.”
“The Planet Heart is a gem like no other. Shaped like a heart, it is divided into quarters with the Diamond Star in the center. The top left quarter was a deep green emerald for Earth. The top right was a sapphire, dark and blue as Queen Illusia’s sea. Under the Water Gem was the Thunder Gem, a perfect golden topaz. A deep, blood-red ruby underneath the Water Gem and to the left of the Thunder Gem held the power of Fire. In the center, as I said, was the Diamond Star.”
I looked at the handle of my knife in shock. The jewels formed a perfect miniature replica of the Planet Heart!
When I found my voice, it came out soft in awe. “Wow… So where is the Planet Heart now?”
“It has long been dismantled. Should the Heart ever be destroyed, the Heiress of the Planet would never be able to ascend the One Throne and our beloved Kerahneeah would fall to ruin by the very Elements which created it. Or if it was used by someone other than the Heiress, it could be used to take power in Kerahneeah.”
“Then where are the pieces?”
“Can you remember NOTHING?” barked Terran. “Each piece is in the heart of its respective Elemental Spirit! Also, the jewels in the handle of your knife are chips off the original Gems plus the Diamond Star. Therefore, they hold a fair amount of power on their own.”
Terran looked rather perturbed. I was quite annoyed at myself as well…
“But what about the Diamond Star?”
Terra’s deep brown eyes nearly popped out of his head.
“Have you NEVER seen your mother’s steed, Princess?!” cried Terran. He pawed his ears, apparently pained by my ignorance. “The Diamond Star is mounted at the base of his forelock! DO use your EYES, Princess!!”
“But he’s a unicorn! He has a HORN at the base of his forelock!”
I was very confused at this point.
“But…”
Terran just shook his head…
“The Diamond Star is embedded UNDER the horn. Have you not ever taken a good look at the base of his horn? It’s shaped like a star! If his horn were to break off, the Diamond Star would be revealed.”
A realization dawned on me.
“When Queen Illusia fled from the Council, she left Diamondsea behind… I had wondered why she would leave him. He’s always been so faithful…”
Before I could finish, Terran interrupted me, shaking his grizzled greyish-brown head back and forth, pricked ears flapping. He looked ready to cry in exasperation.
“You can think of no reason?! The Carriers of the Gems know that the end is near for their animal bodies. They must separate so the Gems will be harder to find, put together and destroy!”
“I see…” I was quite apprehensive about all these new revelations, especially about leaving Kerahneeah. “So they have to have to hide the pieces of the Planet Heart… Let me get this straight: I must leave Kerahneeah – my home for as long as I can remember - travel a dangerous and unknown world, find the most powerful objects in the universe, put them together as one and wield their power as Supreme Queen of the Kerahneeah?”
I was shocked.
Why did no one tell me I had so much power?
“Well… Yes,” said Terran simply. “This is your destiny.”
I sighed.
“Now… How do YOU fit into all this?”
I was quite perplexed by the appearance of this scruffy-looking coyote who was claiming to be Guardian to the Supreme Princess of Kerahneeah.
