~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Chapter 7 *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The last 5 days Irisa did nothing, but train, practice and force herself to endure the pains. She had taken all the hard blows she was given, but only when they attempted to nail her in the breasts did she get annoyed. But those were always the ones that found themselves unable to sit down for awhile.
The last two days, Irisa had slept. Her own body wanting rest before the journey. Irisa was well armed, with her father's old things, and was outside by her horse making sure they had what they needed. She turned around, to see Legolas and his father coming towards her. Legolas was in high spirits and looking better than she had seen him in days.
"All's ready, m'lady!" cried Thranduil. He threw his arms about her in a fatherly embrace. "Off you both go... take great care on the road.... I know not what you may encounter."
It seemed that all of Mirkwood turned out to bid them farewell. They waved multicolored kerchiefs in the light wind as Irisa and Legolas rode off. The music faded into the distance, and they were left to the quiet forest and dappled sunshine. Legolas wore a broad and happy grin, for he was very glad to be back on the road. He hummed snippets of tunes happily as he rode.
Irisa was glad to be back out on the roads herself. No Hunters would be after her, well...Vampires would, but other then that they could both enjoy the days. The nights would be hell. She knew that. She wished to get as far from Mirkwood tonight as they could. The further, the better.
She looked up at Legolas, and laughed softly. "See what all that rest has done for you? And all you needed to do was be kept in your room the whole time." She said playfully, and welcomed the warm sunlight falling down on them as they allowed their horses to lead them down a trail.
He smiled to her. "Aye... rest..." Then trailed off, the smile fading momentarily as he was lost in thought.
Irisa sighed to herself, and tossed a run away auburn lock back in her nest of hair. She had her Elvish braids in her hair. Her ears were alert for anything. She however drifted back off into her own thoughts, thinking about what they would have to do at night, should they be ambushed.
Letting his eyes drift around them, Legolas thought about his father. He didn't know why, but it seemed that he had become quite distant from him. This was one of the reasons that he was so happy to be going back to Rivendell; Elrond was as much a father to him, if not more than, as Thranduil. His eyes fell upon Irisa, and he wondered what her exact response had been to the letter he knew his father had laid out for her.
"You have a very honorable sword. It has been treasured by my people for over a hundred years."
"...I know...It was my father's, along with the rest of the weapons that I have." She laughed, a bit of a bitter one. "Your father stated in the letter, my own father had loved my mother...She showed no love for me. Attempted to sell me off to men, and hated me, always calling me a halfing. I was never even given a name, until your father asked me...He was the one who gave me my name. It means bright, and colorful or rainbow..."
She smiled some. "I remember it too. It had just finished raining out and a nice rainbow could be seen in the distance, and so now you know where I got my name from. As much as I hate both of my own parents...I wish I would have at least known my father..."
Legolas looked down at his hands that were loosely holding the reins of his horse. "He was a great man, your father... He...did not know you were alive. Your mother spurned his love. I....I knew them."
Irisa stopped her horse, and looked at Legolas, "...How did you know them, before when they were happy, or another time?" She asked, the hurt showing in her eyes, wishing she had been told of this a long time ago.
He slowed his horse's pace until it stopped as well, and turned to look away with a sour expression on his face. "They were never happy..." He muttered.
"Ah, so my mother was nothing more then a slut. I am glad I did not get much from her in the gene pool. Only the same hair color." She said bitterly, wishing she had nothing that reminded her of her mother.
Legolas was sorry he had mentioned it, and wished he had been silent on the subject. As a consolation he added softly, "But you have her beauty...And you use it far better than she ever did." He gave the reins a flick and the horse stopped nibbling on the lichen of the forest floor and began walking again.
Irisa sighed, knowing that she should not dwell on matters of her past, but this felt like someone had taken a knife and stabbed it directly into her heart. She flicked her own horse's reins lightly and moved to catch up to Legolas, hiding her emotions under her mask. "Let us try to get as far from here tonight as we can. I sense we'll have no peace come nightfall..." She said, wishing to get her mind off the words Legolas had just spoken moments ago.
Legolas was quite happy for the change of topic, he did not wish to really wish to cloud Irisa's mind with anger of her past, he noticed she had no good thoughts of her mother, and it appeared it would be best, if he stayed away from that topic.
"That might be wise, I do not wish for no trouble as well, nor receive no more deep wounds from those vampires." He said, as his Dark eyes looked ahead of them.
The rest of the trip was spent in silence that day. The two elves from Mirkwood had only stopped a few times to allow their horses some rest, and to drink, so they were all set for the next long and rough trail they had to go on.
Irisa did not speak much, often Legolas had glanced over at the auburn haired vixen, and noticed her blue eyes were lost somewhere deep within her thoughts, unlike most women, she was hard to understand, she masked all types of emotion and when they showed, they often came out at full force.
The only time the Elfen women showed any true concern was when he had not slept, and was wounded badly by the vampires. He had seen the pure hate that night, burning in those deep blue orbs.
Irisa looked to the sky, the sun was starting to set, and soon the Earth would be engulfed by darkness, and the creatures that walked the night, would soon be hot on their tail, that is if they followed them.
She sighed, to herself and attempted to find something in her mind to entertain her, as she shut her eyes she felt the cool evening wind cress her face, she smiled at the relaxing feeling, and felt a small song acing to be let out. One she had not sang since she was a child one that had suited her all too well.
May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely road
Oh! How far you are from home
Legolas heard the rich, sweet song, sing in his ears, and turned his dark eyes towards Irisa, and smiled seeing her singing a song even he knew all too well from his weary travels, one he enjoyed, and rather liked the soft voice hi female companion used to sing this one in.
*Mornie utulie
Believe and you will find your way
*Mornie alantie
A promise lives within you now
He grinned, watching her now rather amused, she had not noticed him. He could feel himself wishing to join in with the song with her, but rather wished to hear her soft musical voice sing the song.
May it be the shadow's call
Will fly away
May it be your journey on
To light the day
When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun
Irisa did not know why she was singing this, but she could feel her soul relaxing, the soft sweet notes came from her as she allowed her soul to be taken off someplace else, past these notes, and far from this world.
Mornie utulie
Believe and you will find your way
Away from the problems of her troubled past, the worries, and threats that were soon yet to come on their adventure.
Mornie alantie
A promise lives within you now
The thoughts of her past, seemed to fad away entirely now, nothing but mere shadows of a past that still wished to haunt her, she could not allow her past demons to win.
A promise lives within you now
Irisa turned her head and felt her cheeks flush brightly, as her friend had joined in with her on the last few words, their voices blending so well, as the sound of her voice and his own clashed to make a nice sound of harmony.
Legolas chuckled lightly seeing her face turn a deep shade of red. "Irisa men do not blush." He tisked playfully at her. "'Tis' not a manly thing." He laughed softly.
Irisa felt her face just turn redder, "Remind me to push you into the nearest stream when we pass by it." She said, attempting to hide her ever growing red face.
His dark eyes seemed to sparkle with amusement now, he moved his horse closer to her and patted her on the shoulder. "Ah, no worries Irisa. I shall not tell anyone you do have a bit of a feminine side to you." He said.
"That makes me feel so much better." She answered with an amusing tone to her voice.
