Inversion

Chapter 1

A/N: Yes! Chapter 1 of Inversion is out! I'm so happy, it took so long for this to actually turn into something. I've had this idea in my head for nearly a year now and I've finally done something with it! This is really my first posted work, at least that I've had any intention of keeping with. I'm not looking for you to go easy on me, or to be nice, I'm just letting you know how proud I am of myself! Anyways…on with the show!

Disclaimer: The characters are completely original and if they bear any resemblance to a real person or characters belonging to someone else, it was not intentional and I apologize. The plot is also original, but the same goes for it. I don't own Kraft Macaroni & Cheese either.

Seth was miserable. He had every right to be, really. His parents were dead, but that wasn't the problem. They were never home anyway. The problem was this: he was stuck in the middle of nowhere, just miles of farmland in any direction he looked. Specifically, Seth was stuck in Illinois, of the United States of fuckin' America, as he put it…and with his godforsaken Aunt and Uncle no less.

Seth believed his Aunt and Uncle were none too happy about the arrangement either. After all, they were pretty old and didn't even like kids to begin with. And, just to make things better, Seth didn't even look the part of an emotionally healthy or even remotely happy 17year old. It wasn't so easy for his family to just turn the other cheek and pretend they didn't notice, but that didn't mean that's not what they did anyway.

It was a rare occasion indeed if Seth chose to wear anything with color. His wardrobe consisted of baggy black clothes and tight black clothes, with an occasional silver chain or necklace thrown in. Seth wore his dark hair down past his ears and usually gelled down. Much to his dismay, his eyes were bright green and were always framed with a little too much eyeliner. And, at 6 foot even, Seth could look fairly menacing if he wanted to, which he did.

Seth sighed and kicked an empty beer can that had been lying on the ground. He kept walking in the general direction of his school, the headphones of his CD player blaring loud music, which he wasn't even listening to.

`And now', he thought, `to top it all off, I've missed the fuckin' bus on my first day at the new school. Wonderful.' He kicked the can again and watched it roll into a ditch at the side of an old road, riddled with all kinds of potholes.

The teen's thoughts continued much in the same way as he began to cross the road. About half way across, his tattered old backpack ripped, spilling his papers. Muttering curses to himself and to his backpack, Seth crouched down to pick up his papers. Because of his CD player, Seth didn't even notice the rapidly approaching truck.

~Switch POV~

A rather pudgy middle-aged man drove down the old country road. He swore to himself as he drove around a rather large pothole. He was hungry. But, since he was almost always hungry, he was prepared. He reached for the bag of doughnuts in the passenger's seat and grabbed a doughnut.

Cream filled and with lots of icing, his favorite he thought. He took a bite before hitting a pothole and dropping his high-calorie snack.

"Damn it…" he mumbled to himself as he reached down to get his doughnut, keeping one hand on the steering wheel. While trying to drive and grab his treat at the same time, the man didn't notice the teenager picking up his papers in the street.

~Switch POV~

Seth looked up just in time to see a truck swerving into a huge pothole to avoid hitting him. Seth dropped all the papers he had been holding, breathing deeply as he sat down. He didn't notice the large object that had fallen out of the back of the truck when it had hit the pothole. He glared after the truck that had nearly hit him.

"Mother fucker didn't even stop to make sure I didn't have a heart attack or some messed up shit like that," Seth said to himself as he got up off the ground and started picking up his papers again when he noticed the box that had fallen out of the truck. Seth walked over to the box and looked it over. It was a pretty big box, mostly metal with studs in the side to hold it together. It had the letters `J.A.I.' on one side, printed in black ink.

`It looks important, I wonder if that guy will get in some sort of trouble for losing that. I hope so, I hope he gets in deep shit for that,' Seth thought as he tried to figure out how the box opened. He found a couple of clasps and undid them, then pushed the box open. His eyes widened and he dropped all his papers again.

"Holy shit!" Seth exclaimed as he jumped back, "there's a kid in there! Oh shit, what am I supposed to do…"

Seth ran a hand through his hair, breathing heavily and trying not to panic. `I'm in some deep shit now, that guy must've been some sort of serial killer and…and…what if that guy comes back? And now I know and…oh shit. I should just leave. Yeah, I think I just need to get out of here and…" Seth's panicked thoughts were interrupted by a groan that came from the box.

Seth inched back towards the box, `Is he still alive? Of course he is, you moron, dead people don't make noises…unless…no, he's alive!'

He looked back inside the box at the kid, who he realized wasn't really a kid. He was a guy who looked about his age. He had black hair that almost came down to his neck, and he actually looked pretty normal, except for the fact that he was nearly naked of course.

Seth automatically tried to assume the worst possible case-scenario, `What if that guy wasn't a murderer, but some sort of kidnapper-slash-rapist who like teenaged guys…?' Seth's thoughts weren't allowed to continue as the boy in the box began to stir.

"Umm, hey, are you all right?" Seth asked as he leaned over the side of the box. The kid slowly opened his eyes and sat up, nearly smashing his head into Seth's. `He's got nice eyes,' Seth thought, without really noticing it.

The kid looked at Seth, apparently confused, before asking, "Where am I?"

"The middle of nowhere," Seth answered, sighing, "what's your name?"

"Uhh…my name is…" the kid frowned.

"Okay, wonderful, can't remember, huh?" Seth said, more to himself than to the other boy. "I guess you've got amnesia, or some shit like that. It's possible…but what am I supposed to do with you?"

"I don't know," the boy shrugged.

`No, of course he doesn't know. So much for getting to school today, I guess. Maybe I should just take him back home or something. My Uncle is out of town, and my Aunt shouldn't be back for a while…" Seth thought.

"Okay, kid, let's go back to my place," Seth said, offering his hand to help the kid get up. The boy took his hand, stood up and stepped out of the box. Seth realized, very suddenly due to the close proximity of the other boy, that he was nearly naked. He stepped back quickly, flushed.

"Here, put this on," Seth took off his trench coat and tossed it to the kid.

About fifteen minutes later, they reached Seth's house. It was nothing special. It looked old, mostly because it was. His Uncle had built it when he got married, and the two had been living there ever since. Seth and his younger sister, Sora, had only been living there for a few days, most of which Seth had spent locked in his new room. Before that, they had lived in Japan with their parents. They moved there when Seth was just a baby, before Sora was born. Their parents had died in a car accident. And so, they were dumped on they're only living relatives.

The house, though old, was rather nice, especially on the inside and had that `Home Sweet Home' feel to it. Seth hated it. Seth took off his shoes as he entered the house, his Aunt hated to get the carpet dirty.

"You know, kid, I can't keep calling you that…"Seth said, as he sat down on a big, overstuffed chair.

The kid nodded.

"Okay, what should I call you?" Seth asked.

The kid just shrugged.

"All right, then. Thanks for being so fuckin' helpful…" Seth rolled his eyes then sighed. "Sorry. I didn't mean it that way. I'll bet you've been through some serious shit and…sorry."

"How about I call you Jai then?" Seth was thinking of the initials on the side of the box he had found the boy in.

"Okay." Jai smiled.

"Well, now that that's taken care of, we should probably get you some clothes," Seth flushed slightly as he got up and started towards his room, motioning for Jai to follow. He walked up the stairs to the attic, he was thankful he had the space to himself.

After reaching his room, Seth grabbed some random clothes off of the floor and tossed them to Jai.

"Here, you can wear these." Seth looked Jai over, "They might be a little big, but it'll have to do." Seth walked out and closed the door behind him.

`What the hell is taking so long?!' Seth wondered after about 10 minutes. Moments after he thought that, the door flung open. Seth's mouth fell open.

Jai was dressed alright, his head through a sleeve, one arm through the spot for your head and the other through a hole he had ripped in the side. His pants were on backwards, and boxer shorts on the outside. Jai had not only failed to get dressed on his own, he had ruined one of Seth's favorite band shirts in the process.

Roughly fifteen minutes, four shirts and two pairs of pants later, and after a considerable amount of help from Seth, Jai was finally dressed.

After wasting a considerable amount of time trying to salvage what was left of several items of clothing, Seth came to the conclusion that they were no longer wearable. Somewhere within that time Jai had decided he was bored and wandered off and Seth had decided he was hungry. He made his way downstairs to the kitchen and opened a random cabinet.

`Huh, let's see,' Seth thought as he scanned the contents of one cabinet and then another. `We've got canned veggies, some fruit salad shit, lima beans…all no,' Seth sighed as he opened another cabinet. Finding nothing but dishes in that one, he opened a new cabinet.

"Where do they keep all the real food?" he wondered aloud. "Ah, great. Food," he said to himself when he found a box of Kraft's very own Macaroni & Cheese. Seth began opening random cabinets again, trying to find a pot to boil water in. It only took a couple tries, and soon he had a pot of water on the stove. He dumped the macaroni in and stirred it a couple times. Then, Seth heard a crash that sounded like it had come from the front room.
