Chapter 5 - Victory

A/N: This one took me…an hour and thirty minutes to write (before school! XD), but I think it's good enough to post! XD

Glimpse Ahead: A dance…a seduction…a rival's victory

"Look out!"

Kevin heard the shout a little too late, stumbling back as a smaller body collided with his. He turned around to see who dared to invade his personal space. For a second he thought it was Shawn or Yuki (He'd let it go if that was the case), but the person was neither the magic user nor the healer.

"Er…sorry! So, SO sorry!" the person said, standing up, and brushing the dirt off of his blue and white shirt. As he looked at the other boy, he realized who it was; it was Ian Sparda, one of the freshmen in his homeroom class.

"You should watch where you're going," Kevin said flatly, folding his arms as Ian continued apologizing. He suddenly remembered he didn't have time to listen to the boy's rambling, as he noticed a head with honey brown hair coming from the elevator, and a large yellow bow holding a rather long red mane in place from the stairs leading to the dorms. "Look, kid, just forget it!" Kevin said hastily, running for class. Sure, he wanted to talk to Shawn, and Yuki, but he couldn't do it with them both there! He needed to get both of them alone…

"…And as such, many undead creatures are weak to holy, or Light magic based spells, such as White Cross. Now if you'll please turn to chapter 54, Holy Magic and Its Common Uses, you will see that-"

Lariat stopped his lecture abruptly, hearing a tapping sound on his door. He put his textbook down, huffed irately, and walked over to the door. Opening it, he spoke before he saw who was there. (As was a habit when he was interrupted…)

"If you do not mind, I am trying to educate my cla-why hello, Ms. Engriez… Oh, and Mr. Sparda too? What do you two need? I need not remind you class is in session, do I?" the instructor asked, looking down at the freshman and the junior.

"No, sir! We were sent to tell all the classes something cool!" Elly Engriez cheered, clasping her hands together and smiling up at the taller blonde. Lariat Creme flipped his blonde braid over his shoulder and looked at the younger cadets, he thought for a moment on weather or not it was worth the interruption, and then stepped out of the way for the pair to enter.

"Good day, senior cadets of Besalt Academy! As I'm sure you all know, the annual prom is fast approaching, us on the planning committee are working our hardest to make it the best one yet! Plus, and you didn't hear it from me, but I've heard through the lovely grapevine that they will announce the new Soldiers at our splendid little shindig!" the junior said, practically all in one breath. Immediately the class was whispering to each other, and a few of the students were even already looking for dates!

"Wa-a-it! We're not finished! Shh! We need a five Besian donation from each of you if you want this prom to happen!" Ian announced, waving his left hand frantically to get the classes attention. Kevin groaned; he didn't want to give up his well-earned Besians (the currency of Besalt) for something he didn't want to go to. Not that he wouldn't go; he was sure Yuki would drag him to it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

"Sh-awn, why won't you go to the prom with me?" One of the girls whined, looking down and shuffling her feet growing more and more embarrassed the longer he looked at her with 'that' face. Once the prom had been announced, the group of Shawn's admirers (three girls…and one boy) were instantaneously on the go, each of them vying for Shawn's affection.

"I told you, Jeanne, I'm just not going," Shawn said lightheartedly, holding his left arm over his right elbow as the disappointed girl stepped aside, only to be replaced with another stalk-er…admirer.

"You're wasting your time," a deep voice said, interrupting the plead for a date, "that little fairy won't go to the prom with any of you blind chicks. Now he might go with Fink, I could see those two limp-wrist losers going to a prom, decked out in pretty pink tutus."

"Oh, mind your own business, Derrik!" One of the girls yelled, pointing at the taller, bulkier boy. Julian Fink simply looked at the muscle-head, raising one hand to toss his hair behind him and laughed at his attempts of a put-down.

"Go ahead, ask him. Yo, Everhart! You a fag or what?" Derrik taunted, smirking smugly as the smaller boy turned bright read at the invasion of privacy.

"Why don't you fuck off, Banes?" A none-too-happy voice said in the most deadly of whispers, causing the hulking Derrik Banes to turn around and see who dare insult him. Kevin stood behind the burly teen, not intimidated at all by his size seeing as he reached the taller boy's nose.

"Gonna stick up for you boooyfriend, Device?" A feminine voice asked, drawing the attention of the slowly building group. It was Sarah Dupe, another one of the well-known troublemakers of Besalt Academy.

"Gonna go screw the other half of the straight male population of Besalt, Dupe?" Kevin retorted. Sarah simply grunted in reply, placing her hands on her hips. Kevin almost forgot why it was he never knocked that behemoth or the little bitch's lights out, but the reason came running up a few seconds before he lost control.

"Derrik! Sarah! C'mon, we're gonna be late for the movie! Oh! Hi, Kevie!" Yuki said happily, before turning and seeing Shawn. For the first time, she just didn't say anything to the boy, simply gave him a cold glare that got her feelings for the boy across perfectly.

"I'm sorry, Yuki, honey, I don't know where my sense of time went!" Sarah said innocently, casually walking off with Derrik towards the elevator leading down into the Second Floor of Besalt. Yuki smiled at Kevin in farewell, bounding off after her two friends. Sarah turned, smirking at Kevin and waving carelessly, before calling out, "Ciao, Device honey! Oh, and you, Shawn darling!"

Shawn looked at Kevin helplessly for a moment before he moved off in the direction of his room. Kevin watched him go wordlessly. For some reason, he could barely speak. He just stood there like an idiot, lost for words looking after Shawn's back as he walked down the corridor.

---------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------

"So… Kevie …going with anyone to the prom?" Yuki asked, sitting down on the floor beside the computer desk as he chatted away with Shawn. She'd let this little instant messenger conversation slide for now; she had bigger plans at the moment.

"N-no," Kevin replied, stuttering as she leaned against his leg, running circles in the fabric of his jeans with her finger idly.

"Would you go to the prom with anyone?" Yuki asked, punctuating 'would' by running her finger from ankle to knee, looking up at the usually stoic cadet. The redhead smiled slightly.

"W-who do you have in m-mind?" Kevin asked, a blush beginning to color his face. He damned his rapidly colouring face and then cursed the tingling sensation in his leg.

Yuki got up on her knees, snaking one arm around the teen's chest, gripping his arm tightly. She nuzzled his neck, placing her free pale, slender hand on the hand on the mouse, moving it so that the little white arrow was just above the close icon. She smiled against his Adam's apple, clicking the button, closing the conversation with the scourge of her existence.

"No one special," the girl said, a wicked look in her eye as she watched the instant messages.

CelestialAngel2: (10:55) Kev?
CelestialAngel2: (11:00) Kev, you there?
CelestialAngel2: (11:10) Okay…guess you had something to do. lol
CelestialAngel2: (11:15) Well…I have to go to bed. Night Kev. *hugses*
CelestialAngel2 has just signed off

Shawn was on his way to homeroom, chatting away with Jade as they made their way to the classroom. That's when he saw it.

"So Clarice is like… Shawn? Shawn, babe? What is it…oh."

Yuki was leaned up against the wall, her arms wrapped tightly around the black jacket clad teen as he kissed her. Even from the distance they were standing, they could hear her muffled appreciation. She glanced out the corner of her eye, spotting the pale boy and his friend. She smirked against Kevin's moving lips, raising her hand to the boy and shooing him away.

"Babe…don't let her get to yo-" Jade began, but was interrupted as Shawn ran for the classroom, seeking sanctuary against the scene that was tearing his heart asunder. Jade looked at the girl, who was still watching the event with glee.

"You…slutty bitch!" Jade yelled, running after Shawn.

And as the brunette comforted the broken-looking Shawn, the redhead thought one thing:

'He's mine.'
