Chapter Twelve-

The next about three weeks were full of awkward and slightly embarrassing moments for Eric as he tried to figure out how to act around Devan at school. And Devan took full advantage of Eric's uncertainty with the whole thing to teas him lightly.

Eric also started to hang around Devan's friends, after a lot of pushing from Devan, and found that he didn't mind being in a group after a while. He also found out that Kensie had only gone to the dance with Devan so it didn't seem like he was going alone, and that she knew he was gay as well. She was actually one of the few of Devan's friends that knew, and Eric found it easier to be around her then the rest of Devan's friends mostly for that fact.

Eric and Devan sat in an ice cream shop after school. Devan having dragged Eric there since it had just recently opened. Devan was sitting next to Eric trying to get him to take a bite of his ice cream, which Eric was adamantly refusing to try. “Come on, just open you mouth,” he said, holding the spoon in front of Eric's mouth.

Eric shook his head, “I don't want any.” He moved father back in the booth trying to evade the spoon covered in ice cream.

As Devan tried to get him to eat it he accidentally got some on the tip of Eric's nose. Setting the spoon back down in his bowl of ice cream, he smiled in a way that made Eric wish he wasn't on the inside of the booth's seat.

Devan leaned forward and lightly licked the ice cream off the tip of Eric's nose. Then smiling, he kissed Eric, who was a bright shade of pink by this point.

A female voice cut threw Devan's exploration of Eric's mouth with his tong and he pulled back to find Kensie standing by the table.

“I don't think you should be doing that in public if you don't want people to figure out you're dating a guy, Devan,” she said smiling and taking a seat.

Devan flashed her a smile and said, “Maybe I don't care anymore. They can think what they want.”

Eric moved out of the corner of the booth so he was facing forward again. Devan grabbed his hand under the table. Eric smiled a little, using his free hand to wipe the hair that had fallen into his face back into place.

“You not care what anyone thinks. Come on Devan, that's not you,” she replied with an `I know you' look.

“People can change other people,” he replied, holding onto Eric's hand a little tighter.

Eric smiled, “Let him have his dilutions, if he thinks he can handle what all his friends think about this, then let him.”

Devan shot Eric a glare before realizing that Eric was actually teasing him. “What about you, could you handle it?” he asked, teasing him back.

“Uh…that wasn't the issue here,” he said, looking around uncomfortably.
Kensie chuckled a little as she watched the two. They made such a cute couple and she was happy that Devan had found Eric. She'd known him for some time and she hadn't seen him this happy for awhile now. She came back to the present as the two kissed again.

There kiss was cut short as all three turned to fine the source of a voice that had come from the other side of the ice cream shop. “ERIC?!”

Eric looked around, his eyes searching for the source of the voice, when they fell on Peter, who was standing shocked on the other side of the shop, his mouth hanging open ever so slightly. Eric blushed and said a tad bit quieter than the other had, “Peter.”

Devan's eyebrows furrowed, trying to figure out who this guy was. Then he remembered Eric mentioning that he had one other friend whose name was Peter. This must be him, he thought briefly. “Looks like it is the issue,” he muttered.

“It's your fault,” Eric said back, but didn't let go of Devan's hand under the table as Peter walked, looking a bit unstable, over to them.

“Eric, were you just…?” he looked over at Devan, recognition flashing quickly threw his eyes as he placed Devan as the lead in the musical and up coming winter play.

Eric took a deep breath, no matter how this turned out; he didn't have a choice any more. He nodded, “Ah…Peter, this is…Devan…my...eh…” He stopped his sentence, not sure if he'd be able to say what he'd been planning on saying.

“Boyfriend,” Devan finished for Eric just so the word didn't hand there uncomfortably.

Kensie felt bad for Eric, he was so shy and Devan didn't seem to be the most understanding person when it came to that, and this whole situation. Even she felt uncomfortable and she wasn't even part of it.

Peter looked like he was going to faint or something, and Eric really didn't look much better. “Peter, I…should have…but it's not…” this was not how he'd hoped Peter would find out. Though he really had hoped Peter wouldn't find out at all, he knew he would have to tell him at some point, but this was more sudden then he thought either of them could easily handle.

Peter shook his head, “This is…your…” He was having a hard time with all this. His best friend was gay and dating one of the most popular guys at their school. This didn't seem like Eric, which made it all the harder for Peter to handle.

Eric sat there uncomfortably, feeling a little trapped since he couldn't easily get out, seeing as he was on the inside and he'd have to push Devan out of the way, or climb over him, and he had a feeling that would only make things more uncomfortable. Not to mention even if he left the booth he couldn't leave the ice cream shop since he'd come with Devan, so he didn't have his car.

Kensie cleared her throat to get their attention. “Maybe you should take a seat,” she suggested, moving over to make room for Peter to take a seat.

Peter glanced over at her, not moving for a moment, his brain going over again what she'd said, before taking a seat next to her. He closed his eyes taking a deep breath and collecting his thoughts so he didn't say or do anything stupid. He finally said, “So, you're gay?”

Eric thought about that, he hadn't really given that particular question much thought. “I like some guys,” he finally answered trying not to blush or anything as he answered, “So, I guess that would be a yes.”

Devan's eyebrows furrowed, “What other guys do you like?”

Eric gave him a smile, “Wouldn't you like to know.” Eric turned back to Peter, giving him a small smile too.

Peter nodded, “Ok, and you're dating the most popular guy at our school?” He was just checking on the last part, he wasn't sure if he'd actually gotten the facts right earlier or not.

“If you mean Devan, yes, though I'm not sure he's the most popular guy at our school,” Eric gave Devan a critical look as though he was assessing he popularity.

“I'm pretty close,” Devan muttered, acting pouty because of what Eric had said.
“But he certainly has a nice ego one way or the other,” Eric said, giving him a smile and lightly elbowing him in the ribs.

Peter watched Eric joke around with Devan and thought he seemed so different from the fluster-able junior he had become friends with. Though he certainly still saw a bit of the old Eric whenever Devan would teas him back. Peter smiled, this was something that was going to take some getting used to, but he didn't think it was really a bad thing, even if his best friend was gay. “Well, I think it's all a little weird and might take some time for me to get used to, but I'm not going to freak out…I don't think.”

A look of relief came over Eric's face as Peter said that. He didn't have many friends, and he really didn't want to lose any.

“Now it makes sense as to why you never noticed any girls, though,” Peter added almost to himself.

Devan found this funny for some reason and started to chuckle as Eric let go of his hand and pretended to glare at them both.

The rest of the after noon went more smoothly, Peter left the table, saying he needed to get home before his mother got worried and that he would see Eric at school the following day.

After Peter had left Devan glanced over at Eric, “You know, Valentines Day is coming up soon. My parents are going on a ski trip and my sister won't be dropping by randomly either, if you wanted to come over…”

Eric blushed a little and Kensie stood up, “I think I should be leaving too, I don't want to have anything to do with the rest of this conversation.”

Eric blushed even more at what she was implying and Devan gave her a small smirk, “Ok, see ya then Kens.”

“Devan, I've told you more than once, my name is not Kens, it's Kensie!” She shook her head before leaving the table and the ice cream shop.

“Sooo, about Valentines Day you gonna come over?”

Eric smiled a little, “Yeah. And you should probably take me home now, it's getting a little late.”

Devan rolled his eyes, but stood up and allowed Eric to get out of the booth before heading out the door and to his car.
