Moonlit Angel
By: DarkBunnyRabbit
Singing softly as she went, the young woman continued her trek up the worn trail that wound slowly through the scarcely vegetated dunes. She could be no older than twenty, with a jumble of dark brown curls that fell to her mid back and stormy gray blue eyes that matched the weather. Her attire consisting of a simple skirt, an off-white peasant style shirt and a loosely knitted shawl.
Below her lay the ocean, hitting the shore with its ceaseless rhythmic bounding. The cloudy sky a torrent of grayish blues and angry grays, a violent wind whipping up from the east, from out across the sea.
A storm was brewing.
But this wasn't just any ordinary storm. No one believed her though. No one would listen. But she knew. She knew that someone… or something was coming. Something terrible. Something that would change their lives… forever. But no one would listen. Everyone was blind. They couldn't see what she could. They didn't understand.
As she reached the crest of the ocean cliffs she starred off across the distance. It was because of them she was out here. While they laughed and danced -- not heeding a word she said -- their doom was approaching them on swift black wings.
He was coming.
The man that had haunted her dreams for many a night. The shadowy figure whose identity was just out of reach, like a parent tantalizing a child with a sugary snack. How did he elude her so? What was he preparing? But the answers were fogged over by an impenetrable mist of deception and out of her grasp.
The wind blew more harshly and her skirt bellowed behind her, a scent of malice seemingly being carried with it. Black clouds forming at an alarming rate on the distant horizon -- heading their way. The already gray sky apparently darker than a moment before.
It had begun.
