Fan Fiction ❯ Not All Changes Are Bad ❯ Arguements, Nicknames and Explanations ( Chapter 1 )
H.B.: Anyways, sorry about the wait. Friends have been over a lot lately and I went and saw Van Hellsing with them yesterday. So, on with the story after the disclaimer!
Talking: "blah"
Thinking: 'blah'
In case of telepathy: -blah-
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. If I did, I would be a very happy, VERY rich girl. Plus I wouldn't be wasting my time with this fic. J.K. Rowling is positively brilliant. The only things I do own is Hermione's extended family.
…Chapter 1…
Hermione continued to look at Haven, Kali, and Fay while thinking, 'Can those skirts get any shorter? Honestly, don't they have any sense of dignity?'
At the same time the triplets shared the same thought as they looked at Hermione, 'Could those clothes be any more preppy? Honestly, doesn't she realize that she would look so much better dressed in darker colors?' Hermione was wearing some bellbottom jeans, a pink shirt and some pink flip flops. She was without a doubt the total opposite of her cousins. Not that they would shun her for it, it's just that she would look better in black. Speaking of what she looks like, why didn't she and her mother look anything like them?
"Its cool to finally meet all three of you," said Xavier as he brushed his bangs out of his eyes. Xavier was an extremely good looking boy. At the age of sixteen, he was extremely well built with a nice chiseled face, short midnight black hair that had a blue tint and blue bangs that went past his blue, tinted gold, eyes. He was at least 6 ft tall. "I mean, at least the three pains got to see you when they were babies." He ducked behind his father as Kali made a dive for him.
Alana laughed at her nephew and niece's actions. She nudged Hermione and whispered in her ear, "Say hello to your cousins."
"But mother!" whispered Hermione. "Don't you see the way they're dressed? They're freaks!"
Before Alana could scold her daughter, Haven, who had heard the entire thing, spoke up and glared at Hermione, "Better to be a freak than a snob."
"Excuse me?" asked Hermione, who didn't realize Haven had heard.
"If you're going to talk crap about us, at least wait till we're out of earshot," with this said Haven turned around and headed towards the exit along with Kali and Xavier.
Fay being the nicer of the triplets, looked to Hermione and explained, "Haven doesn't like it when anyone talks crap about her or any of her siblings. You're gonna have to learn to get along with us because, just so you know," she started to use her pissy voice, "you're stuck with us for the rest of the summer. So grow up and stop judging people by the way they dress."
Hermione looked at Fay a little shocked at the fact that she was pretty much just told off by her cousin. She looked at her parents then her aunt and uncle then her grandmother. All of them had a slightly disappointed look on their faces. She looked to where Fay was to apologize but Fay had already turned around and was heading to the exit.
"Well…that was an interesting moment," said Tynan, trying to lighten up the mood. Dynamis rolled her eyes at him and hit him on the back of his head in annoyance.
"We best be getting our bags then," said Alex. The group of six went and picked up the Granger's bags then walked to the exit. Once outside they walked to the parking lot to the waiting Haven, Kali, Fay, Xavier and three cars.
"Who's sitting with who?" asked Kali who was leaning back against her car. Her car was a 2004 Ford Mustang Coupe with a blood red fabric interior, and a exterior of midnight black with a red phoenix design along both the sides.
"I'll take mom and Aunt Alana," said Fay. Fay's car was like Kali's but with a lavender fabric interior and a lavender unicorn design along the sides of the exterior.
"I'll take dad and Uncle Alex," offered Kali. She looked to Xavier and asked, "Who you riding with?"
"I want to ride with Haven," was his answer.
"Okay," said Celestia. "Guess that means that Hermione and I will ride with Haven and Xavier. I want to do some catching up, so Haven, no loud music!"
"Whatever," said a still pissed Haven as she got into her car. Her car was like her sisters' being a 2004 Ford Mustang Coupe, but had a silver fabric interior and a silver mid-evil dragon design along the exterior on both sides.
Fay put Alana's bags into the trunk of her car before getting in and starting the engine. Dynamis got into the backseat on the driver's side and waited. Alana looked at Hermione and said, "Be nice and apologize." Before Hermione could protest, Alana climbed into the back seat of Fay's car so she could catch up with her only sister.
"Do as your mother says. That was a rude thing to say, Hermione," added her father as her Uncle Tynan put her father's bags into the trunk of Kali's car. Kali got into the driver's seat and started up the car while Tynan sat in the back allowing Alex to sit in the front.
"Come along dear," said Celestia as she guided Hermione into the backseat of Haven's car and sitting next to her, allowing Xavier to have the front passenger's seat after he put Hermione's bags into the trunk. She nodded to Haven, who in turn started the car and pulled out of the parking lot and down the street with Kali and Fay trailing behind her.
"So Hermione," started Celestia, "has your mother told you anything about us?"
"No, not a thing," answered Hermione. "I didn't even know I had an extended family. Mother never mentioned any of you till yesterday."
Hermione could've swore she heard Haven mutter something that sounded like, "Figures." She ignored it and asked her grandmother, "Has she told you anything about me?"
"Yes," answered Celestia. "She's told us that you are a witch, you are best friends with Harry Potter and you're going into your seventh year at Hogwarts."
"It doesn't bother you that I'm a witch?"
Haven gave Xavier a knowing look causing him to laugh silently to himself. Only Celestia saw this but ignored them and answered Hermione, "Of course it doesn't bother us. But I can't tell you the reason now. That will have to wait till we get to the manor."
"Manor?!" asked a shocked Hermione.
"Yes, manor," said Haven.
"Aunt Alana and Uncle Alex really didn't tell you anything, did they?" asked Xavier.
"Nothing about a manor," answered Hermione. She looked to her grandmother curiously and asked, "Who is my grandfather?"
Haven took a right and muttered, "Shit…here it goes," while Xavier sighed expecting Celestia to break into her story about the love and loss of their grandfather. The only problem with her story is that she never told them who their grandfather was. Not once was a name mentioned. To their surprise and great relief, Celestia just said, "I don't really think we should talk about him right now, dear."
"Why?"
"She has her reasons so stop asking about it," snapped Haven.
"Shi, calm down," said Xavier, using Haven's nickname.
"Shi?" questioned Hermione.
"X's nickname for me," answered a now calm Haven. She took a left onto a street and followed it out of the city.
"Actually, her whole nickname is Tenshi no Shi," added Xavier.
"What does it mean?" Hermione questioned further.
"Angel of Death," answered Celestia. Hermione looked up at her grandmother in surprise then looked at Haven through the rearview mirror. She shuddered as Haven nodded, confirming the meaning of her nickname. They sat in silence for the rest of the ride.
-(Fast forward) 20 minutes later-
Hermione looked up at the 4 story manor in shock. It was huge! It had to at least be 15 times bigger than her three bedroom house back home. She looked to her parents to see their reactions but was surprised when they calmly took their bags out of the cars and walked up and into the house. She continued to look at the house wide-eyed until someone started waving their hands in front of her face.
Haven stood with Fay and Xavier, who was holding Hermione's bags, while watching Kali wave her hands in front of Hermione's face, trying to bring her back to earth.
"Is she ok?" asked Xavier.
"Who cares?" snapped Haven.
"Haven, chill," ordered Fay.
Kali gave up trying to bring Hermione back to planet Earth and looked to her oldest sibling, "I agree with Fay, Haven. You need to start being nice to Hermione. For all our sakes. We don't need a World War 3."
Haven glared at the still gaping Hermione then looked to her siblings, seeing a serious look on all their faces and sighed. "Fine but if she starts anything, don't think I won't hesitate to finish it." She walked up to Hermione and said, "If she's anything like us…" She poked Hermione's side and snapped her fingers in front of her face. "Time to wake up, Sleeping Beauty."
Hermione was suddenly pulled out of her trance like shock and started blinking. She looked around to see her parents, aunt, uncle, and grandmother gone and her cousins watching her. She looked at Haven a bit irritated and asked, "What?"
Haven glared at Hermione and said coldly, "Lose the attitude. Remember, this is my home. I won't have you treating me or any of my family like crap just because you don't like the way we dress. We've had to put up with our grandmother constantly saying how much she wants to see you and how much she misses her granddaughter. There were days where she would ignore us because she was too busy talking or thinking about you. They," she pointed to Fay and Xavier, "are the only ones who actually wanted to meet you. Kali and I are only putting up with you to make our grandmother happy."
Hermione looked to her other cousins only to see Kali nod in agreement with everything Haven just said while Fay and Xavier look at her in pity. She looked back to Haven and glared, "Me lose the attitude? What about you? At least you've known about me. I just found out yesterday that any of you existed. Do you know how hard it is to grow up not knowing that you have a grandmother, aunt or cousins out there then find out one day that you do?! I've just started my damn summer and its already gone to Hell! So you know what? I don't care what you think. I'm going to enjoy what time I have with my grandmother. If you don't like it then go sulk in some dark corner because I don't care!"
Everyone looked at Hermione in shock at her outburst. The shock slowly turned into looks of respect. Haven started to laugh. When Hermione looked at Haven questionably, Haven said, "Never thought you had it in you, Leandra."
"Leandra?" asked Hermione.
"It's Latin," said Kali.
"What does it mean?" questioned Hermione.
"It means 'like a lioness'," answered Haven.
"Haven likes to give people Latin nicknames," said Xavier. "Just be sure to be on her good side to get a good one."
"So," said Hermione, "does this mean I'm on your good side now?"
"For now," smirked Haven. "Just be sure not to do anything that pisses me off. Sometimes I just can't hold in my anger."
Hermione laughed, "I'll try."
"Well," said Kali. "Now that that is over lets go inside." The other girls agreed and walked inside, leaving Xavier to carry in Hermione's bags alone.
"The dining room and kitchen are down there," said Fay as she pointed down a hall. "First floor common room down there," she said as she pointed down another hall. "And that's pretty much all that's important down here. Time for upstairs."
They started walking up the long set of stairs when Hermione asked, "How can you live with a four story manor? Wouldn't there be a lot of empty space?"
"Not really," said Xavier. "The maids and cooks live on the first floor, mum, dad, grams and any guests stay on the second, we live on the third, and the fourth has the garden and work rooms."
"Work rooms for what?" curiously asked Hermione.
"You're gonna have to ask grams to tell you," said Kali. "We've been sworn to secrecy until they tell you."
"Why?" questioned Hermione.
"How should we know?" asked Kali.
"They didn't tell us why. They just told us not to tell," explained Haven. When they arrived to the third floor, Haven pointed down a hall to their left, "Our common room is the first door on the left across from Xavier's room. Pray to God you never have to go into his room. You might get lost." She ignored the 'Hey!' from Xavier and started walking down the hall to their right, "Fay's room is the first door on the right. Kali's is right next to it. Mine's across from Fay while you will be staying right next to me."
Hermione nodded while absorbing all the information. She asked, "Where's the bathroom?"
"Each room has it's own bathroom," said Fay. "I think mother foresaw the future and realized how much time we all would end up spending in the bathroom in the mornings."
Hermione smiled and said, "Well, can't let Xavier stand there all day holding my bags, now can we?"
"Oh we could," said Kali causing the other girls to laugh and Xavier to groan in annoyance.
"We're just joking Corbin," said Haven.
"Corbin?" asked Hermione. "Is that Xavier's Latin nickname?"
"Of course," answered Haven as they all walked into Hermione's room. "It means raven."
Before Hermione could comment, she looked around the room in awe. The walls were a pale gold and the soft carpet was a deep red. There was a contour canopy bed made out of redwood with a crimson red down comforter and golden silk sheets along with pillows in gold and crimson red covers. There was a two nightstands on each side of the bed, a dresser with a vanity mirror and a bookshelf that was made of the same wood as the bed. Across from the bed was a window with a window seat. There were two doors that Hermione guessed led to the bathroom and a closet. She wasn't just awed from the beautiful furniture in the room. It was mostly from the fact that the room was huge!
"Will it do?" asked Kali.
Hermione looked at Kali as if she was crazy. "Will it do?! Its amazing! It has to be at least twice the size of my bedroom back home!"
"Good to know," said Xavier as the girls sat on the bed leaving Xavier to sit on the window seat.
"So," started Hermione as she looked to the other girls, "What are your Latin nicknames?"
"Even though my actual name is already Latin," said Fay, "Haven gave me the nickname Tania. It means a 'fairy queen' while my real name means 'a fairy or elf'."
"Since I have a thing for fire," said Kali, "my nickname is Vesta. It means 'Guardian of the sacred fire'."
"Wicked," said Hermione. She looked to Haven, "What's your nickname?"
"Don't have one," she answered.
"Hmm, well I guess that means I'm just going to have to give you one now, doesn't it?" asked Hermione.
"I guess so," Haven answered, smiling.
"Well, lets see," said Hermione as she started to think. "You're very protective of your family so I think your nickname should be Aminta. It means 'Protector' in Latin."
"I think it suits her," said Kali.
"I do too. Even though sometimes she can be a little overprotective," added Fay.
"So are we all done here?" asked Xavier.
"Yeah. Why?" asked Haven.
Xavier looked at his watch and said, "Well, its ten till six. Dinner will be served soon."
"Well in that case," said Kali as she bolted out the door, down the hall and down the stairs.
"Bit of a warning for you Leandra," said Haven using her nickname for Hermione. "Never get in Kali's way when there is food."
Hermione laughed, "Her and my friend Ron would get along great then."
"Would that be a friend friend or a boyfriend?" asked Haven slyly as they walked out of Hermione's room and down the hall to the stairs.
"He's just a friend," said Hermione. "If I could see him as anything closer than just a friend then that would have to be a big brother."
"Why is that?" asked Fay.
"I've known him too long and been through too much with him and our friend Harry to see him any other way," Hermione explained. They stopped talking the rest of the way.
As they entered they could hear Alana say, "Fine. I'll tell Hermione after dinner."
-(Rewind) Dining room, ten minutes earlier-
"Hermione must be told, Alana."
"I know that mother. But why tonight?" asked the distressed Alana.
"Hate to sound like mother right now but why put off till tomorrow what can be done today?" asked Dynamis. Celestia nodded her head in approval at what Dynamis had said.
Alana rolled her eyes at them both before saying, "I just don't think she's ready." She looked to her husband and asked, "Don't you agree, Alex?"
"I actually agree with Celestia and Dynamis," he said quietly. He winced when Alana glared at him.
"All three of them are right, Alana. How can you know whether or not she's ready until you tell her?"
"Fine," said Alana, a bit annoyed with the fact that they all agreed with her mother. "I'll tell Hermione after dinner."
"Tell me what after dinner?" asked Hermione as she and the other's came into the dining room and sat down. Celestia sat at the head of table being the matriarch of the family. Hermione sat to her left and Haven sat to her right. Next to Hermione was her mother, then her father and her Aunt Dynamis. Next to Haven sat Kali, then Fay and Xavier leaving Tynan to sit at the end of the table. Hermione looked around and noticed that all the adults looked a bit tense. She wondered why.
"Don't worry about it, dear," said Celestia. "Let's all just enjoy our dinner for now."
-forty-five minutes later, first floor common room-
Hermione sat quietly with Haven on her right and Fay on her left on the black fabric couch. Her mother, aunt and grandmother sat in a matching couch across from them. Her father sat to Haven's right in a single plush chair that matched the couches while Xavier and Tynan sat in a two chairs they dragged over from the table in the corner to sit to Fay's left.
"Are you going to tell her or not, Alana?" questioned Dynamis in annoyance.
"Tell me what?" asked Hermione.
"Alana, its now or never," said Alex as he took his wife's hand. "She has a right to know."
"Alana, if you don't tell her now, I will," Celestia stated.
"Tell me what?!" shouted Hermione.
"Hermione, dear," said Alana. "You know your father and I love you, right?"
"Of course I know you do," said Hermione. She was really starting to wonder what they wanted to tell her. Well, what everyone but her mother wanted to tell her.
"And you know that we would only keep something from you for a reason, right?" Alana questioned.
"Okay, you're really starting to scare me, mum."
"Hermione, I'm sorry we've kept this from you but….."
H.B.: Well…that's all for now…I guess you're all just going to have to wait until next time to find out what it is that they're gonna tell her. Don't forget to review!!

H.B.: Yeah right…like I would do that to you! I'm pretty sure the majority of you figured out what Hermione's mum is gonna tell her so here we go!
"…you're not what you think you are."
Hermione looked at her mother confused and asked, "What do you mean?"
"What she means, Hermione, is that you're not a muggle born," Celestia answered.
"What?!" screamed Hermione.
"They're saying you're a pureblood," answered Haven as she tried to regain all sense of hearing back since Hermione practically screamed in her ear.
Hermione looked at her parents in shock before asking, "How could you keep this from me? Do you know how much mental pain I've gone through because everyone thought I was a muggle born?"
Haven perked up at this and asked, "Who's been causing it?"
"It doesn't matter," said Hermione. She looked to her mother and asked, "Why tell me now?"
"We thought that it was your right to know who and what you are," said Alex. "We're sorry for keeping it from you for so long, Hermione."
"You don't hate us, do you?" asked Alana, sadly.
"I won't answer that till you tell me why you kept this from me for so long," said Hermione.
"When we left England," started Celestia, "The times were bad. It was when Voldemort had come into power. So of course you can understand why we didn't tell you. It was too dangerous to have you known as a pureblood."
"You said his name," said Hermione in shock. "Most people I know fear it too much to say it."
"What? Voldemort?" said Haven boredly. "Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself."
Hermione looked at Haven in slight surprise before saying, "I said the same exact thing in my second year."
"Really now?" asked Haven.
"Yes. I said it Lucius Malfoy when he was pretty much harassing Harry and mentioned Voldemort," explained Hermione.
"Lucius Malfoy, hmm? We went to Hogwarts with him," said Tynan.
Dynamis and Alana rolled their eyes and said at the same time, "Damn pale-faced, blonde-headed git."
"Dynamis! Alana! Watch your language in front of the children!" ordered Celestia.
"Oh please, mother. You know very damn well that they say worse things than that!" said Dynamis.
Alana ignored her mother and sister while looking at her daughter and asked, "So you don't hate me?"
Hermione smiled, "How could I hate you? You're my mother. You were just doing what you thought was right to protect me. Although, I don't see why we stayed in England while grandma and Aunt Dynamis moved here. Why would Voldemort come after us anyways? Its not like we're related to him or anything."
When all the adults went quiet and started to look anywhere but at the teenagers, Haven, Kali, Fay and Hermione said at the same time, "Oh my God."
"What?" said Xavier, totally oblivious to what the adults' silence meant.
"How are we related to him?" asked Haven.
"Related to who?" asked Xavier.
"Voldemort you idiot," said Kali. Fay smacked Kali on the back of the head. "Ow! What was that for?!"
"Be nice!" ordered Fay.
Hermione looked to her grandmother for the answer. Celestia sighed knowing this day would eventually come. She took a deep breath before saying, "Voldemort…Tom Riddle is my nephew."
….End Chapter 1…
H.B.: Happy now??? I know…totally cliché. But oh well! Don't like it, I dun care!! I'm too happy right now for anyone to bring me down! Anyways, push the bluish lavender button in the bottom left hand corner and tell me what you think!
