Chapter 3:

Help is on the Way

 

Here is a recap of Chapters 1+2:

 

“Where do you think you're going?”

“Hysathoine!” (Translation: Out of my way!)

“What'd he say?”

“Relax. We just want to help you.”

The boy didn't appear to hear or understand what Raven wanted to say. He just looked around for a way out.

“Quisa Nolea Taneo!” (Translation: You do not understand!) A glow emminated from the palm of his hands as he struggled to get away from Raven.

Starfire approached the boy from behind and said the following in a strange voice that none of the Titans, even she, knew that she knew, “Rtian tsro mikcas?” (Translation: Who are you?)

Startled to hear his own language being spoken, the boy turned around to face Starfire. “I am Kaelyn Pyros.”

 

“Starfire, what's going on here?” Robin asked for the whole team.

“Yeah! How do you know this guys language? If you can call it a language…”

“Do not mock me! It is the ancient language that all my people speak!”

“You can speak English?”

“Yes, of course he can. Among other things.”

“Now if you wish to see another moon, you will let me pass!” Kaelyn demanded of Raven who was still blocking the doorway.

`Kaelyn. They are the ones who shall assist us.' The phoenix startled everyone out of their argument.

“Xanthos! I will not be held like a criminal! No one shall stand in my way, even you!”

The bird, whose name was apparently Xanthos, flew towards Kaelyn, `You must them.'

“Zanthos? A strange name for a bird.”

“The phoenix is not just a bird, Robin. He is a zarlenelk.”

At the sound of Starfire's voice, Kaelyn turned back towards her. “You…Qital nostroea?” (Translation: You know of me?)

The Titans looked confused. They had no idea what was going on. The boy, Kaelyn, apparently recognized Starfire from somewhere.

“Wait a minute! I'm confused! Who is this dude? Where is he from? Why is he here? And what the heck is he saying?” Beastboy asked frantically.

“He has asked how I know him.” How under all of baglork do I understand his language?

As Kaelyn began talking to Starfire in his strange language, Starfire began translating for her very confused friends: “He says he must return to his task--- He cannot be held back--- Planets destroyed--- Families gone--- All but Lyra--- She was taken--- The demon must let him go.”

“Hold it! That still doesn't explain anything. Why would the phoenix bring him here?” Robin asked.

`KAELYN!' Xanthos interrupted Kaelyn's frantic explanation to Starfire. `You must tell them. They are the ones.'

“Xanthos… They must not know… They will end up like all the others…”

`They will not because She is one of them.'

`Tzarnath?' (Translation: Not available.)

`Yes. The one.'

LATER…

After their awkward introduction, Kaelyn sat down to explain his predicament to the Titans. By now he knew each of their names: Robin, Raven, Beastboy, Starfire, and Cyborg.

“I come from a planet called Phiyon. It, along with my family, was destroyed by the Goddess Talithia.”

“Who is Talithia?”

“She is an evil war goddess bent on destruction and chaos.”

“What does she do?”

“She destroys the lives of planets and the lives of those on them.”

“How did you get to Earth?”

“I have traveled the galaxies with Xanthos following Talithia in her path of destruction. Unfortunately, I am the cause of all this destruction.”

“How is that?”

“My father, Salizar, was Ruler of Phiyon. I and my sister, Lyra, were endowed with great power as the legend of my planet has said.”

“Wait a sec! You have a sister!”

“Yes.”

“What sort of power?” Robin interrupted Kaelyn's answer to Beastboy's question.

“I do not know. It is most unknown to me.”

“You mean that you can't control it?” Kaelyn did not respondto Raven's query. “I'll take that as a yes.”

“I have learned the use of a small part of my power. It is not enough to defeat Talithia. She is too great. My power does not always work.”

“Do not worry, new friend Kaelyn. My friends and I will assist you.” Starfire replied earnestly.

Kaelyn smiled at her. “No it is too dangerous.”

“We've been in dangerous situations before.” Robin stated.

“Quisa Nolea Taneo… You are very foolish.”

`They are not. I shall reveal all of what Kaelyn has not told you already.' -Xanthos. `I brought Kaelyn here after his most recent battle against the Blue Goddess.'

“The Blue Goddess? You mean Talithia?”

`Yes. She has great power over ice, water, and coldness. That is why Kaelyn was cold to the touch. Yes, Raven, daughter of Azarath?'

“Oh. Just call me Raven?”

`Of course. Kaelyn's sister, Lyra, was taken by the Blue Goddess. She must not be in the hands of the Cold One. The Cold One wishes to use her power for evil.'

Starfire turned to Kaelyn for confirmation, “Lyra was kidnapped? Is this true, Kaelyn?”

“Yes. Which is why I must depart now.”

“You cannot go alone!”

“Yeah! We can't let you take on Talithia on your own again! Not after what just happened.”

“Right. You need help, and you've come to the right planet. The Teen Titans are just the ones to do it.”

Kaelyn was unsure what to do. They were all so anxious to help Kaelyn retrieve his sister, Lyra.

`Trust them, Kaelyn.'

If Xanthos thought that these `Titans' could assist them, then he would follow the pheonix's advice. But he would do everything in his ability to keep them alive. It was his duty as protector of the universe. How can I protect the universe if cannot even protect my own flesh and blood? Lyra… where are you?

Suddenly, Kaelyn felt a small hand on his shoulder. Starfire. “Do not despair. Lyra will be rescued.”
