Fan Fiction ❯ Possession ❯ Prologue ( Prologue )
A/N: I'm hoping to post this for the original epic contest, but I don't know if I can meet the deadline. Nonetheless, here it is. Special thanks to Star and Fanboy for helping out, and to Ember for beta reading!
Prologue
The setting sun glistened on the smooth waters of the Ganath Lake like thousands of hidden diamonds buried beneath its glass-like surface. Not a single wave spoiled its perfect beauty.
The island in the center of that lake was a contradiction to the brilliant waters, as an immense stone fortress sat defiantly upon the beach's jagged rocks. Darkness shrouded the high walls, thin spires and tall towers, despite the bright sunset. The granite bulwarks were slowly crumbling, and a few of the turrets were cracked or had collapsed… a sure sign that this castle had seen many years of battle.
Inside the eroded stonewalls a thick coat of dust and grime covered everything. From the previously elegant throne room to the individual bedchambers, nothing was left untouched by time. The once grand hall was now just a rotting, forgotten citadel… forgotten, but not empty.
Down the black hallways something still lurked… something that was an even more sinister darkness than the unlit rooms. Something that smelled of evil and felt of an oily taint that even a hundred years couldn't purge completely.
That something… that corruption wandered the empty halls. It waited patiently for just the right opportunity to be set free, and once it was free, then nothing would be able to stop it.
