Fan Fiction ❯ Reaper ❯ Just this once... ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Soshitsu stood in the middle of the busy street. A car rushed through her incorporeal body. She shuddered. No matter how many times it happened, it still gave her the creeps to see things pass straight through her body. The wind started to pick up, making her amber hair whip across her face. She looked at her watch. "Five more minutes of watching stuff go through me, then my first client arrives." She shifted her weight on her scythe, so it was doing the standing for her.
"Of all the things I thought the Grim Reaper would wear I never once imagined a Mickey Mouse watch. Of course, I also thought that Grim Reaping was a field dominated by creepy skeletons in black cloaks, too." Soshitsu looked down at herself. She had about as much in common with her envisionment of The Grim Reaper as Mickey Mouse had with a giant robot. A black shirt with fishnet sleeves that had the kanji symbol for death on her shirt in red, a pair of jeans with holes in the knees, a necklace with her birthstone on it, and a few bracelets. Sometimes the hardest part of her job was convincing her clients she was a grim reaper.
"Hey excuse me! Comin' through here! In a hurry, gotta fly!"
Soshitsu snapped out of her stuper when she heard the shouting. "Great, my client's got a yap the size of Texas. Oh, well he's just about here so might as well be seen." Soshitsu snapped her fingers and popped down the few inches she was floating above the ground and made herself visible to the little mortals. "Hit me with your best shot, world Soshitsu's gonna show you why I am the number one reaper!"
"I diot, what are you doing standing in the road?"
"Huh ?" Someone grabbed Soshitsu's wrist and pulled her out of the path of the oncoming bus, just as it whizzed past blaring it's horn in warning of it's arrival. Soshitsu stared blankly at the space where the bus had just passed. She had messed up. She, Soshitsu had missed a client. She could do little more then stare at the once again busy street that the bus had just passed through.
"Uh, Miss? Are you okay?" These words snapped Soshitsu out of her daze and took her back to the busy city sidewalk.
"I was waiting to meet someone there you- you moron!"
"Wh o? Mr. Front End of a Bus? I saved your life!"
"No I was waiting for uh, hang on a second!" Soshitsu pulled out her assignment cards and began leafing through them looking for the first assignment of the day. "Ah! Here we go I was waiting for-" She looked at the card again and looked at the man who had pulled her from the street. She dropped her cards. She had really messed up. She glanced around, searching for a reason for him to get going or her to be leaving.
"Uh, um well Hey! Look the light's green so uh, I'm just gonna-"
"Ah ! It is, isn't it! Uh, I gotta get going, 'cuz see, I promised my friend I'd take her cat to the vet. So bye!" And with that he ran of.
"Thank God that's over. I could have blown the great secret of the Cosmos." But you didn't, she thought. "Besides, even the greats can mess up once and a while. It won't change anything from me to mess up, just this once"
In the hustle and bustle of the city street nobody noticed Soshitsu vanish as a crowd passed by.
