Fan Fiction ❯ Red Crow ❯ Chapter 3

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

The chair she sat in was anything but comfortable. She had been there nearly an hour and the metal was still as cold as ever. She stood and stretched her arms up over her head glancing around at the drab gray walls. Yawning as she sat down into the chair again she continued to wait for Kinara. The door behind her creaked open and she turned to see who had entered. She stood with a smile when she saw her, only to frown again when her eyes met with Kinara's. Her look was solemn, grave, and Atsumi knew immediately that something was wrong.

"You can not stay Atsumi. I want you gone before daybreak." The words hung in the air; they were ice to Atsumi's fire.

"But why Kinara? What has happened that I can not stay? I have nowhere else to go!" Her voice was pleading and broken with her unshed tears.

"An aircraft flew over this island near six hours ago. It was a human observation craft. The humans know that we are here and the others are preparing to leave as we speak. It is not safe here anymore. Atsumi, I'm sorry."

She nodded and let a few tears escape her eyes, leaving wet trails down her cheeks. Kinara came forward and pulled her friend close, the shelter could not protect them anymore and that frightened her to no end. She was in charge of this base, and she was at a loss.

They pulled apart quickly and both looked toward the door. Time slowed as another shot was heard through the door. The sound was followed by shouts as more shots rang out. Kinara turned to Atsumi and pulled her toward the door. "You need to leave. Now!"

Kinara tugged her out the door and down the hall. She stopped short at a turn and peeked around the side before continuing to run down the long corridor. They reached the end of the hall and Kinara pushed Atsumi quickly into a darkened room. A shot rang out and once again things moved too slowly before Atsumi. Kinara's eyes opened in shock and she grunted as her body hit the wall and slid to the floor. Her left hand went up to her right shoulder to meet with her own blood and an open wound. She cried out in pain and slumped forward, trying her best to make it into the room. Atsumi made to help her when she heard the shot and could only watch in horror as Kinara screamed and collapsed on the cold floor. Atsumi sat in shock as blood seeped from the wound in her friend's chest. Kinara's deep brown eyes slowly faded as the life left her body.

Rage built up inside her. Her best friend, and the only family she had left, was dead. The temperature in her body soared as beads of sweat broke out on her face. She found it difficult to breath and the world around her began to take on a reddish hue. Her fangs descended far beyond their normal length and her fingernails became sharper than any knife. She was no longer in control of what her body did, and she was ready to kill.
