~~Chapter 10: Frantic…~~

After hours of searching Matt went home empty handed, hoping she would have come home. He unlocked the door half expecting Andy to run at him and throw her arms around him. No such luck he thought miserably. He sat on the couch and saw her book bag sitting in a chair. Intrigued and deeply depressed he reached over and grabbed it, settling it in his lap. He flipped open the flap and pulled out a series of books, Chem., Geom., World Hist., and Lit. books lay on the coffee table in front of him. The last thing he pulled out was a journal. He flipped open the cover and a picture fell into his lap. He picked it up and studied it. Andy stood in front of a medium sized house along with the boy from the night before and a young blonde girl. They all smiled and hugged each other close. Matt smiled at their closeness. Must have been great friends. He set the picture aside and read the first entry. Only a few months ago. How could things nave gone so wrong for her in such a short amount of time? He read on…

Dear diary,

Johnny and Michelle and I went to the movies today. They are so in love, and I'm so happy for them. I wish I could find someone for me like that. They know everything about each other! Their love will never be broken. School sucks so bad…the teachers are so mean. One hates me because I proved her wrong the other day. Hey, I don't have a degree but I think I know my multiple tables. All that was wrong was she made a calculation error…no biggy. Well, to her it was the end of the world. Oh well, hey did I tell you? Mike Wellers and I are going to Homecoming together. He is so awesome. I just hope he likes me as much as I like him. I've liked him since the seventh grade. I'm so obsessive! Well, anyway…I'm not sure if he's the one or not. (relating to the Michelle and Johnny thing) I mean I always figured when I found the one I'd know. Or I'd like want to go faster then normal or something, but with him, I'm kinda scared. He is older (and no doubt) experienced and I dont think I'm ready for THAT yet. When I am I think I'll know. Well, it's getting late and I think I better get some sleep I have an exam tomorrow! AHHHHHHH! As if life weren't hard enough.

Andy

He smiled at her entry. She sure has matured. He flipped to a longer more recent entry.

Dear Diary,

Matt has been so kind. He is helping me with all my issues. I wish he knew how much I appreciated his help. With out him I could still be on the streets, starving for food. I think I figured out who my mysterious helper was when I was living in that abandoned building…Matt. I don't want to say anything because it would kinda ruin the fact that he thinks I don't know. And I think he is trying to let me become an adult more. Like, when I didn't understand something my dad wouldn't even explain he'd just do it. But Matt, he takes the time to listen to my problem and then talk through the steps until I understand. Then he makes me do what I couldn't before. He has helped me mature a lot. I went and read the first entry in the diary and I found I matured a great deal since then, and Matt helped me do that. I care about him so much. He means a lot to me. I do think that he is someone who will be very special to me in the near future. (relating to `the one' thing) He is perfect. He is funny, caring, sensitive, nice and not to mention very handsome. One problem…I don't know if he sees me as anything other than a burden…or a friend. Someone who needs help, not love. Oh well, I'll stop worrying about that for now. I'll let things go where they want to and if it works out then all the better for me. (I don't think I would ever find a guy as great as he is) If it doesn't then, it'll hurt but it wasn't meant to be. Well, I do have to sleep, Matt is scheming something for my birthday tomorrow and I don't want to ruin the surprise. (not to mention it's getting late) so good night.

Andy

He smirked at the date. The day before we made love. Wouldn't change a single second. He smiled and put the picture back where he found it and closed the journal, suddenly feeling like he shouldn't be reading her most private thoughts. His insides shook and churned with worry and sadness. He stood and slid his hand through his already messy hair. Grabbing a towel he hopped into a quick shower. As he was drying his hair he had a brainstorm. Her old neighborhood and school. Of course she'd go there if she was having troubles with people. He dressed quickly and went to his car. He turned the key in the ignition and heard the car rev up. Stopping suddenly her bolted out of the car and grabbed her journal. Flipping open the cover he looked at the picture and saw the house numbers on the porch. Great now to find out exactly what city. He grimaced. "There must be at least twelve houses with the address of eleven thirty two. Guess I'll have to start with the closest one." With that he shut the door and sped towards the house that he hoped was hers. He pulled up outside a white house that looked very familiar, and glanced at the picture. He all but ran out of the car and up to the door. He banged on the door and a woman in a robe came and opened up. "Have you seen this girl?" he said shoving the picture in her face. The woman took the picture from his hand and smirked.

"Yeah, I've seen her. She was just here." She led him to the back room where Andy had been sitting. She opened the door and the curtains fluttered. Matt tore from the door way to the windows and peered outside. He saw nothing and turned back to focus his gaze on the woman in the door way. "So I take it you're the new bum she managed to mooch off of. I feel for you. She's worthless, give up on her. Your life will be a lot better; she'll leave you just like she did my fiancé and her friend Johnny. Broke both their hearts. I was lucky to be able to help her father. She will never be anything good, so just go home and forget her. There are plenty of good women out there don't waste your time on her." Matt saw red. He had never been so outraged in his life. How dare she talk about someone she has never met before like that? He pushed past her and made his way to his car. Just as he was about to pull away he spotted a girl running to a park across the street. That girl looks like Andy. He jumped back out of his car and headed straight for her. Once he passed the entrance gates he lost sight of her Damn! He looked around frantically and couldn't locate her anywhere. He sighed dejectedly and turned back for his car.

"Ok. Well, she's got to be around here somewhere. She couldn't have gone far." With that he turned the key in the ignition and pushed down the accelerator. He drove around for hours and there was still no sign of her. He felt like curling up in a ball and sleeping for hours, but he had to find her, needed to find her ok and safe. He saw a young girl come out of a drug store and pocket a bottle of pills, and nearly gasped at the figure. "Andy!" he yelled but the girl was already running to the nearest alley way.
