San walked silently with Kuto and Quip. The forest was alive with the sounds of small creatures scurrying on their errands. Quip constantly fell behind San and Kuto, as he had never been in forest combat and did not ever learn how to run silently in dense forest. Quip stepped upon a branch and scrunched his face up as it snapped loudly.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to.” Quip explained hurriedly. San quickly spun on her heels and placed her finger in front of her lips indicating he was to be quite. Quip put his right hand in front of her mouth and nodded. San turned back and was suddenly aware that the entire forest had gone silent. San swallowed hard and peered into the forest. Something crunched far off to her left. San pulled the two boys towards a large tree and pushed up on Quip to make him climb. As soon as Quip had pulled himself up into the leafy branches San and Kuto ascended into the tree. All three kept climbing until they were positive someone below could not spot them.
A large crashing sound echoed throughout the forest as an army of the aliens burst out directly under where San Kuto and Quip hid. Quip took in a quick gasp of air. San glared at Kuto and he placed his hand over his mouth. The alien army marched under the tree for sometime until they marched out of sight. San Kuto and Quip waited several minuets until they were sure the army was gone.
“ I think we should follow them and see what they are up to.” Declared Quip. San and Kuto slid out of the tree and landed silently on the forest floor. Quip tried to follow San and Kuto’s example but landed with a plop on his back. “Ouch. How do you guys know how to do all these things?” Quip looked from San to Kuto and back again.
“I think we need to split up. Quip, you should go back to the base and protect the girls. Kuto and I will go find some answers.” Quip looked down disappointedly and sighed. He understood San was trying to be nice but did not want him with them because he did not know how to be quiet and stealthy and everyone knew it. Quip sighed and nodded. San pointed back towards the hold and Quip walked as quietly as he could in that direction.
San and Kuto bolted silently through the forest following the tracks of the alien solders. San stopped suddenly and smiled at Kuto. Kuto nodded and they split up and headed in different directions. San followed a path parallel to the alien’s path to the right, and Kuto soon found one to the left.
“It’s not like I mean to be loud,” Quip thought angrily “They won’t even try to teach me to be stealthy. Why won’t they teach me? They treat me as if I’m some little kid and can’t be taught. I try and I want to help but they don’t even let me try.” Quip continued to walk deep in the forest lost in his thoughts. Quip found the entrance to the hold and opened the door.
Suddenly there were aliens all around him, their lips turned up into cruel smiles. Everything went black for Quip as he was knocked out by a swift thump on the back of his head.
