"I hope time stops like this,"
I wished with my simple words
No matter how much I gaze at you

Chapter 5

Kaii sat in his office thinking; not doing any work for once. He and Hikaru were supposed to meet after work hours to go for some drinks - after all that time on the cruise, they never did go out on an actual date. Kaii pondered what he wanted to talk about, what he should talk about and where to take Hikaru. Hikaru had made the comment that he never got out much whereas Kaii used to go out on the town quite often so it was up to him to decide where they should go.

"Hey Kaii, do you have that column done yet?" Kaii snapped back from his thoughts as his co-worker Rohp interrupted by barging in. Well, Rohp was a quiet individual and no doubt had only come to ask him because he was told to so "barging in" wasn't the correct term. Kaii sighed and turned to his blank computer screen, the column was finished but he still had to do all the editing and he hadn't even opened the file.

"Almost, Rohp," Kaii said sounding tired.

There was a pause before Rohp responded. "...all right, Kaii. Say...are you feeling okay?" Rohp asked, examining Kaii with worried grey eyes. Rohp was almost motherly in his concern and it made Kaii chuckle - Rohp's concern quickly changed to confusion.

"I'm fine, Rohp, just a little tired today," Kaii smiled at the man who simply nodded, a soft smile on his features.

"Okay, don't overdo it then," Rohp nodded his understanding, his charcoal hair barely moving with the action.

"I won't, you need to stop worrying," Kaii scolded gently, waving the man out; Rohp quickly left.

Hikaru fidgeted as he waited outside his boss' office. He was nervous for two reasons. The first was because he wasn't sure what the boss would want now and was worried she didn't like his latest designs. The second reason was that he was going out with Kaii - they had been together before but somehow it was different to be going on a date with him.

"Hikaru?" The secretary called him, snapping him out of his thoughts as he looked up at her. "She'll see you now, you can go in," she said before turning back to the papers on her desk and the phone-calls she received on her headset.

Not wanting to make her wait, Hikaru quickly stood up and went into the office where he anxiously awaited his boss' critique.

"Well? What did she say, Hikaru?" Yasu asked - she was in a hyper mood - she spoke quickly and couldn't seem to stand still as Hikaru walked back to his office. Hikaru simply laughed at her and made her wait until he was inside before telling her.

"She said she loves it," Hikaru said, smiling at Yasu who immediately hugged him, nearly knocking him over.

"That's wonderful, Hikaru! So you had nothing to worry about afterall!" Yasu exclaimed, she was beaming, very happy to see that Hikaru was going to keep his job.

"Yeah, I guess not," Hikaru said calmly. He didn't seem to be as happy as Yasu was on the outside, but he felt as though a great weight was lifted and now he could get back to his work without feeling like he was being judged at every move.

"Let's get back to work, shall we?" Yasu said, noting Hikaru's reaction and assuming that it was not the time to be celebrating - they had work to do.

"Yeah, sounds good. So what do you have for me today, Yasu?"

Hikaru was once again fidgeting as he sat in Kaii's car. He was beyond nervous, he had never been to a bar before and had no idea what to expect. Hikaru chose to speak in order to calm his nerves and hoping vainly that he would be able to concentrate on something else but Kaii beat him to it.

"Is something bothering you, Hikaru?" Kaii asked, making sure to keep his gaze on the road as he spoke.

"Nothing really...I'm just a little nervous," Hikaru responded with a quiet voice, looking outside to gaze at the streets. He had never noticed how colourful everything was at night. There were bright neon lights on nearly every building and each store window was lit. Hikaru even saw brightly dressed people, the kinds of things that one would normally not see during the daylight hours.

"Why are you nervous?" Kaii asked, he could think of a few reasons why Hikaru would be nervous - one of them being because the two of them were going out - but he wanted to hear what Hikaru had to say before jumping to conclusions and getting into an argument. Some people didn't appreciate it if you had doubts about a relationship or suspected them for having doubts and Kaii wanted to make sure that this night would go smoothly.

"It's nothing really...it's rather embarrassing actually," as if to prove his statement, his cheeks slowly turned pink - luckily for him, Kaii couldn't see it through the dark even with all the neon lights surrounding them.

"Sometimes it's better to get things off your chest, Hikaru," Kaii pointed out.

Hikaru sighed, he decided that he wasn't up for conversation afterall. He was embarrassed but not terribly so, he just didn't want to seem weak like he knew he usually appeared. If his brother could see him now he would be laughing at him for his behaviour - Yuki being the calm and collected one and never appeared weak to anyone. Hikaru smiled fondly at the memory of his brother, even if the later memories weren't so happy, he still enjoyed thinking back on them.

Taking Hikaru's silence as the end of the discussion and a hint that he wasn't going to hear what was making the silver haired man nervous, Kaii chose to continue the silence and have some time of his own to think. Most of what he thought was based on work as usual, but one thing bothered him. Rohp's behaviour earlier that day, while normal, was what stood out in Kaii's mind. The charcoal haired co worker was normally worried about his fellow workers, but today was the first time he had directed it at Kaii. Either something was wrong or Kaii was really pushing it lately and it was starting to show. A small frown and knitting of the brow appeared on Kaii's face as he dwelled on that last part - so much that he barely noticed when Hikaru spoke to him.

"If you keep doing that, your face will get stuck that way," Hikaru teased, a small, playful smiled gracing his face. Kaii turned to look at him, a little startled since he had thought Hikaru wasn't paying attention to him, but he didn't let Hikaru see it. Instead, he smirked at him and turned his gaze back to the road, his face now relaxed.

"So how long does it take to get to this place, Kaii?" Hikaru asked.

"Not too long," Kaii spoke calmly, "but this traffic is worse than usual so it could easily take twice as long." The frown appeared on his face again at that thought; he could be very impatient at times.

"I see." After that, the two of them drifted off into silence again.

Kaii carefully lifted Hikaru out of the car. It was late and he had just driven them back from the bar, Hikaru finding that he liked the taste of alcohol and deciding to get quite drunk and pass out on the drive back. Kaii was amused by this but he was once again brought to reality at the shock of Hikaru's weight as he lifted him. It was the same as the last time but no less astonishing.

Kaii continued to think on it as he carried Hikaru up to his apartment, deciding it would be easier for him to stay the night than it would be for Kaii to try and wake Hikaru so he could get him into his apartment. Then there was the worry that Hikaru might get sick and so it was easier to take care of him in his own home than it would be if they stayed at Hikaru's.

Kaii blinked as he heard a small groan and looked down to see Hikaru frowning and curling closer to him while still in his arms. A warm smile ghosted Kaii's face before disappearing as he once again got lost in his thoughts while he waited for the elevator to reach his floor.

A/N - hope it wasn't too rushed for you...I know I skipped the bar scene but there wasn't really much to put there...all it does is make it take longer to get to the point of this, which by the way, we're no where near^^;; I don't even think this is half done yet...*shrugs* oh well, maybe I'm wrong^^
