Sayonara, Chapter 1

They first met on a cruise. One had been standing at the edge of the boat looking out across the ocean. It was late -midnight- and the moonlight made his hair shine brilliantly, though not like it does during the day, he was still too beautiful to be human. Kaii watched him in awe, he could have sworn that the creature before him was an angel and not human; no mortal was that beautiful. The one before him had silver hair that shone in the moonlight and in daylight when the sun hit it on the right angle it had the brilliance of a rainbow. His eyes were golden and glowed in the darkness of the night and as bright as the sun during the day. Kaii himself was beautiful, but he found nothing compare to the man in front of him. His own fiery red hair and bright orange eyes gave him an angered appearance whereas this man's looks made him seem graceful and kind.

Suddenly the man turned around, slightly startled at being watched and at first his eyes were wide, but then he relaxed and smiled warmly. Kaii was lost in his smile, the perfection of him went down to every last detail, even his voice was calm and soothing.

"I didn't know I had an audience. Do you often watch people from the shadows?" He smiled brighter to show that he didn't mind. Nervously, Kaii stepped out from the shadows.

"I'm sorry; I was just coming out here to get some air." He apologized.

"I don't mind, I find it flattering that you stared. I was just coming out to look at the stars; you don't see them in the city." Then he turned back around and looked at the stars, leaning on the rail. He patted the area of the rail beside him, offering for Kaii to join him. Hesitantly, Kaii did so. He wasn't nervous around anyone, but something about this man made him feel shy. "So, what's your name?" He asked. Kaii cleared his throat before answering.

"Kaii, you?"

"Hikaru, nice to meet you, Kaii." He smiled again and Kaii found himself smiling back.

"And you. So, you live in a city? What's it like?" Kaii asked.

"Loud and crowded. It's nice to get away, even if only for a short time." He said, still smiling.

"I agree. I'm also from a loud and busy city." Kaii said, beginning to relax. He turned around so that he was leaning back against the railing so he could look at Hikaru more easily. Hikaru was a few inches shorter than his six feet and one inch height. He found himself relaxing and becoming more like his old self. Hikaru's presence was calming.

"So what do you do for a living?" Hikaru asked. Kaii paused for a few minutes; it wasn't something he really liked to discuss while on vacation, but before he could say anything, Hikaru continued. "Forgive me, it's a bad subject to talk about while relaxing. I wouldn't want to either." Kaii smiled; it was like Hikaru read his mind. From that point on, he knew he wasn't going to leave his side.

For the rest of the cruise, Kaii spent all the time he could spare by Hikaru's side. They told each other things about themselves, about their family, friends and all that. Kaii found that he and Hikaru even lived in the same city.

By the last day of the cruise, the two of them knew just about everything there was to know about the other. Hikaru was kind and patient and listened to everything Kaii had to say. He learned that Kaii was a normally violent and easy to anger person, it scared him at first, but since he'd never seen it, he grew confident that there wasn't anything to be afraid of.

"So, Hikaru, what are you going to do once you get back to the city?" Kaii asked. He watched as Hikaru sat on one of the beach chairs set out on the deck and thought for a few moments.

"I don't know, I'll have to work of course, but I have others things I'd like to do as well. You?" He asked, looking up at Kaii, who was leaning on the railing and looking out across the water.

"Don't know. I still have about a week of vacation left after this so I'll probably take it easy. My boss is always telling me I work too hard." Kaii chuckled softly, but more to himself than anyone else. Hikaru smiled and leaned back into the chair, getting comfortable. The sun was beginning to set leaving the sky orange and since their ship was heading west, it was like they were headed straight for it.

"I can't believe our vacation is almost over...while mine anyways. I never want to leave here, it's so peaceful." Hikaru said softly, staring up at the sky, his golden eyes glowing and blending with the sky.

"It is." Was Kaii's only response as he continued to look out over the ocean.

"Is something bothering you, Kaii?" Hikaru asked.

"No, nothing." He replied, a little too quickly for Hikaru's liking. He stood up and walked over to Kaii, wrapping his arms around him, between his arms so that his hands were on his chest, then rested his head at the base of his neck.

"You can tell me, Kaii. If there is anything wrong, don't be afraid to let me know." Hikaru said gently. Kaii leaned his body into the embrace and covered Hikaru's hands with one of his own.

"There isn't anything wrong, stop worrying." He said softly. So as not to offend him, he continued, "But thank you for caring." He said. He turned around in his hold and wrapped his arms around Hikaru, holding him against his chest. They stood there for a few moments, Kaii absently running his hand through Hikaru's soft hair which was tied up loosely at the end near his lower back with a simple black elastic.

"It's getting cool, we should head to our rooms now, Hikaru." Kaii said softly. Hikaru said nothing and pulled away, smiling softly.

"If you want. I'll see you tomorrow." He said, his voice as soft as always. He quickly gave Kaii a kiss on the cheek and turned away, heading to his room.

Once he was gone, Kaii turned back to the ocean, eyes glistening with unshed tears. Soon he'd have to leave and there was a good chance he would never see Hikaru again. He didn't want that to happen, but there wasn't anything he could do, they lived in a large and busy city, it was practically impossible to find anyone and once he went back to work, he'd never have anytime to see him. Tomorrow would be their last day together, Kaii had to prepare himself for the hardest goodbye he'd ever have to make. He turned and left the deck, heading back to his own room for a good night's sleep.
