~Part 5: Forgive Me~

It was dark, so dark only this time it wasn't his mind dreaming those awful nightmares-it was real. Link moaned and pushed his seemingly heavy body up as much as he could into a sitting a position. He gazed around lazily, trying to take in his new surroundings; what he saw did not please him at all.

Blood, everywhere. Covering everything, dripping from the sharp abnormal rocks that seemed to be 'growing' out from everywhere as well. Blood in the sand-the sand was blood; blood in the sky, blood in the air-the very air Link was breathing right then was a mix of tainted blood and fear from every creature that had ever passed through this horrid place, wherever 'this place' was. Link's stomach fell when he realized though, this place was Hell… or the Underworld, as it was known in the land of the living. Hell seemed more appropriate though for the situation Link happened to be in right at the moment.

He sighed and looked around for a moment, taking everything in so he might be ready for any unexpected (and unwanted) intrusions. It didn't look like much though: he was in a wide-open space, surrounded on all sides by those strange rock formations and only one way that seemed to lead out of the clearing, and it didn't look too promising. And, to make things even better, it seemed as though Link had been kindly removed of all his weapons, save his bow and arrows and the Master Sword-not even the pathetic little knife he used when he was a child was equipped to him. What in the world is going on? Link sighed again and pushed himself up off the ground with all his might, he felt so much heavier here than on the plane of the living-maybe it was because he was dead. Link shrugged it off and started walking; this was going to be a long 'adventure'.

"Well, it looks like our precious 'Hero' is here! I was wondering when he would come… So, it seems he does still care for you my dear, broken little Sheikah. But what will we do with him once he gets here, torture… make him my slave… rape? Hmmm, I think I'll let you decide pretty one; once he gets here, he'll be too shocked to defend himself and I'll have him! You do come in handy once in a while! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…!" Ganondorf had been pacing in front of a hollow shell of the once proud Sheik, and he was rambling on and on about his 'Hero of Time' coming and he would get to play with them both, but Sheik wasn't listening, he wasn't even there-technically.

Sheik had let himself drift off into oblivion as he hung there in the same room, from the same chains, in front of the same horrid man that had captured and taken everything from him so long ago, it seemed. Sheik had lost his will to continue, with the beatings and the relentless torture, Ganon constantly at his heals-in a manner of speaking, being told Link wasn't going to come for him-that he didn't even exist to anyone in the living world-it was all too much and Sheik could bare it no more. He had shut down, and left his mind and body, or what was left of those and hid, hid as far away as he could from all the darkness and pain and hatred threatening to consume him. He couldn't take it anymore, almost like what had happened to his beloved Link, only that was his doing-Sheik had hurt the one creature he cared for the most in all the worlds and that upset him the most and he threatened himself with the fact that all the pain he was receiving was punishment for what he had done to Link.

Ganon continued to ramble on, completely oblivious to the fact that Sheik wasn't even there at that point anymore. Sheik just curled up tighter in the little hole he had found inside his mind that wasn't tainted and he stayed there, waiting? Hoping? For what, Link? Perhaps, but he never stopped telling himself that Link wasn't going to come, that Link didn't love him and he didn't deserve the beautiful, innocent boy that had plagued his mind day and night.

He never stopped punishing himself for what he had done…. Yet, somehow, he still managed to ask, in his pain-ragged mind,

"Forgive me, forgive me Link. Forgive me, forgive me, forgive me……"

But what the broken Sheikah did not know was that the object of his love had already forgiven him and that perfect creature was looking for him now.

Ganon continued on with his mindless chatter to the mindless Sheikah.

"How could you have done something like this!?" Ruto all but jumped on top of Saria as she screamed at the top of her lungs at the small Sage. Saria just sat there staring back at Ruto like she wasn't even there. The other sages watched as Ruto let her rage consume her and Saria did nothing about it; how could she have done something like this, why? Impa watched Saria intensely, waiting, knowing the little Sage would tell them when she was ready and she thought they needed to know. Then Ruto started screaming again and the obnoxiously loud noise pulled Impa out of her thoughts.

"Darn it! Tell us, tell us why you did this! Why did you kill him, why did you send him to the Underworld, why did you let him go!?" Ruto reached out and began to shake Saria ruthlessly, trying to get something, anything out of her. The little Kokiri didn't speak for a long while then, seemingly out of know where, in the tiniest whisper any of them had ever heard, Saria said,

"Why do you want to know? It's not like you care what happens to him anyway. Right?" Ruto's face fell along with her hands; the other's were shocked, Impa raised her eyebrow and cocked her head to the side slightly-this little Forest Sage was quite impressive. Ruto frowned at Saria, only to receive a blank stare right back.

"Wha-what do you mean, of course I care! I wouldn't be so upset otherwise!" Ruto defiantly crossed her arms over chest, lifting her head in a very arrogant manner. Saria didn't let that faze her in the least though and she continued to stare with emotionless eyes.

"Is that so? Why then, did every one of us, including myself, ignore Link and give all the pain and suffering and danger to him with open arms? Why did we just give up and hand all the work, all the suffering over to him? Why was only he forced to do everything for the price of what, losing his one true love and happiness? Why, with all of the supposed power and knowledge that we 'Great Sages' possess, did we willingly hand over the tremendous burden of saving an entire country to a mere boy who, has only ever in his short lifetime, experienced so much disrespect, spite and hatred, loneliness and fear, dejected and pushed off by all who were near to the poor boy? He has never once felt loved or cared for in all his time and around all the people he has ever known which is surely all who live in this selfish land called Hyrule.

"We treat him with so much disrespect, it hurts to even think about it. Have you ever thought, just sat down and really thought about what we were doing to this boy-to this human being called Link, our dear 'Hero of Time'? He is a person not some lowly unwanted beast, but it seems that is all we have treated him as-a pathetic worthless creature…. He deserves a home, a family, somebody to love him just as much-no, more than any one of us here; not to be used as he has been by everyone in Hyrule in one way or another. And what makes it even worse is that we took the credit for doing everything he had done!

"He so wished to die, to just give up living. He had been plagued by those horrid nightmares of the one called Sheik, who also did so much for us, and all for the love of that poor boy who suffered through so much to save everyone here. Link could not live through anymore and he would have tried to kill himself sooner or later, I'm sure… if that horrid monster, that has no right to call himself the Sage of Light, would have succeeded in his plan to kill Link. Which, by the way, you all were very willing to let happen!

"We are the Five Sages! We are supposed to protect all life! And then we sit here and let a life-the most important of them all, just slip away?! He is our protector, our savior-we are the one's that deserve to die and he should live with the wealth and power and happiness that surrounds all of us with a sickeningly amount of force that it would make the Goddesses cry. But, then again, it was their doing that all of this happened… we only helped it along a little more."

Nobody knew what to say, what could they say to something like that? It was almost like telling somebody to just 'get over it' after a loved one had died; Ruto, for once was completely silent and her usually bright aqua blue skin was a hauntingly pale blue now. Naburoo and Darunia stared wide-eyed at the little Forest Sage before them, and Impa lowered her eyes in shame that she knew what Saria said was true, and that they could do nothing now to make up for the wrongs they had done, only wait. Saria looked away and stared off into the distance, seeming to make up her mind about something-a decision.

"But, he is not alone…" Everyone looked back at her, a little surprised at that.

"Wha-what do you mean?" Ruto asked quietly.

"He is not alone. There is someone with him, someone who can help, if only a little… he will be all right, he always is… he has to be……" Saria blinked slowly and looked back down, closing her eyes sadly, knowing the wait would be long, if he did come back… she really wasn't sure that he would, it was just to get them to leave her alone. Link you had better make it back or I'll come after you. I promise.
