Fan Fiction ❯ Shaz... ❯ Nicolai ( Chapter 2 )
Nicolai-
He sat back at his desk, his hands casually cupping the back of his head while he stared at his computer, his mind unable to concentrate because his thoughts were only of her. He had pulled up her ID page, and was studying her face. By now, he had every curve and contour on her face memorized, he could pick her out of a crowd easily; but somewhere in the back of his mind he had a niggling feeling that he could have already done that before. " Shaz," he whispered.
For the most part, he thought about her, but every once in a while he thought about her words. She said she'd worked for his employer but when he looked up her ID pages, it had marked her as a high-class rogue from the age of fifteen. And under every child labor law in the country, it said you couldn't make younger children work at what his profession was. Mercenaries are weeded out at the ripe age of fifteen, but if she was a high-class rogue, it meant that she's never set foot in a criminal law enforcement facility. He moved his mouse and clicked on menu bar bringing up her ID pages again, his eyes straying to her face. Wondering fleetingly, rather boyishly, what she looked like beneath her cloak. He tore his eyes from her face and moved them down the page to look at her age. 19. He blinked remembering her accuracy with the gun from the neighboring building, there is no way she can be 19, he thought. I'm twenty-three and still can't get that precise at my marksmanship. How can a four-year rogue be that good? Especially when they can't access a training facility? " I still wasn't able to keep my hands on her," he murmured, his mind again fleeting the possibility of what it would feel like to hold her, her soft small body against his larger harder body. He tensed at the sudden tightening of his body, almost embarrassed at his reaction of just thinking about her. He sighed and rubbed his temples, crossing his legs uncomfortably, " This is so confusing."
"Yeah, it's confusing how you, Nicolai D'Angelo wasn't able to keep her in custody," said a deep woman's voice.
He looked up to see the pale gray eyes of his friend, Dani. Her black hair glossy and tied back in a bun, her face thin yet contoured for happiness. Yet, it amazed him how that earlier this week he thought her very attractive and had even thought about her in ways he shouldn't have, but now she seemed so plain compared with Shaz. Shaz had a colorful uniqueness to her, while Dani was rather a stony gray and black. She shook him gently on the shoulders, her hands resting on them a little longer than was necessary.
" Gee? You ok?" she asked genuine concern filled her voice and her hand rested on his shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm fine, Dani," he sighed.
"I heard she got your gun, your father's gun. You gonna go after her? Because if you do, I'll be right there with you," she offered. She seemed to be reaching out for a way to spend time with him. It amazed him again that if she had asked earlier in the week he would have said yes in a flash, but now he could only think of seeing Shaz again.
"Nah, thanks anyway though," he said shaking his head, " I'll be able to get my gun back. I just have to find her."
"If it's any help, I know where she lives, well at least what sector she lives in, " she said her hands resting on his shoulders and her thumb trailed with a soothing cause. For a moment all he could think of was a way to get her to stop touching him, but then her words registered in his mind. " You know. Tell me, I've got to go get it back!"
"Quadrant 9, Sector B, New York," she replied startled as he grabbed his dark suit jacket and new issued gun and ran out of the building,
