-Chapter Three-
Preparations before the Mission
Shiryuu woke as he normally did, around three thirty. He slowly moved through his room leaving no hint that someone lived in the room other than his tussled bed sheets and a single strand of his long raven hair. The hair would evaporate within a few minutes so even that couldn't give away his presence.
The young assassin continued through his room shedding his oversized t-shirt before finally going into the bathroom. He did a quick wash-up and left the small tile room. There was no need to shower thoroughly for what he was going to do for the next two hours. It saved water if he just showered afterwards. He dressed quickly; a pair of abandoned royal blue shorts found years ago and a white t-shirt that covered the shorts saved for a two inch strip of blue. He pinned up his hair under a blue bandana and threw on a pair of worn low top running shoes.
Finished with dressing, he grabbed his duffle and left the room. He walked down the familiar halls feeling small pulses of the sounds of snoring vibrating off the doors he passed. He spared the nightly guard a look as he passed him. Said guard smiled welcomingly and waved him along.
After five more minutes of casual walking, the room the pale youth was in search for came into view. He continued his even strides until he was within arm's length of the large double doors. He pressed his hand to the touchpad next to the doorframe knowing it read nothing. He had no ridges or fingerprints that could give away his identity yet that was how he was identified in order to travel within the vicinity.
The doors hissed open slowly revealing a room made of only none reflecting white tiles. The room wasn't as bright as the rest of the building. For that Shiryuu was grateful. He walked silently through into the room. The tiles his feet touched glowed red in his wake.
User Identification?
The computerized voice echoed through the room.
“Shiryuu, death dragon.”
Level of exercise?
“Demon, B class.” As the command was spoken, the tiles around him began to glow as well.
The level you requested requires a password.
“Life, my ultimate sin.”
Password…..completely.
The glow of the tiles grew until the room was tainted blood red. Four rows of tile slid back revealing darkness behind them. Shiryuu watched them with growing anticipation as the first `demon' clawed its way out.
It was artificial and looked and smelled like it. It limbs were made of obvious metal parts. The body and head was composed of two different demons. It was crude but because demons retained their demon powers even in death, it was the best means of training new recruits.
The `demon' was big enough to take up all four of the spaces that once held tile. Its body was wide but not very long giving it a compact build. It literally poured out of the space landing in a heap on the floor. Its body twitched and writhed. Shiryuu watched it with indifferent eyes slowly taking his two blades out of his duffle. He slipped each of them in the handmade sheath holders on either side of his hips. He stood resting his arms on the hilts of each weapon waiting.
The `demon' struggled to its feet unseeing eyes roaming around the room. Its nose flared at the smell of fresh flesh not human or demon entirely. Its eyes settled on the lone youth waiting patiently for its attack.
The `demon' roared low and feral making the young assassin grit his teeth and tense. It barreled forward gaping mouth streaming saliva behind it. Its target gripped a hand over each hilt and slowly drew the glinting blades from their sheathes.
Shiryuu twirled the twin swords once to lay parallel to his forearm. He bent low straightening his arms so that the tip of each blade rested on each of his shoulders. The `demon' continued to come faster and closer paying no attention to the half demon's action. It was within ten feet when it through out a burst of energy.
Caught slightly off guard, Shiryuu gasped silently and jumped high into the air. He stared down coolly at the large crater the blast left below him. The rumbling sound from the explosion made his skin twitch.
The `demon' craned its head tracking the assassin as he fell. As soon as the lithe body touched the floor, it charged again. This time, it extended its arm in a horizontal arc at its side bringing it around and towards its target.
Shiryuu dodged it easily but was unable to dodge the energy blast sent his way. The blast enveloped his body in a black dim light before coming off of his skin in the form of black electricity. The pain reached all the way down within the youth using his own spiritual powers against himself. He growled blinking pass the pain watching the `demon' as it circled him.
Slowly, the `demon' closed the distance between it and its prey. It paid no attention to the one icy blue eye tracking it from the safety of crossed forearms. It charged hell bent of getting its pound of flesh.
Shiryuu sliced downward disturbing the spiraling vortex of dark energy. Cut from each other, the snakes of electricity faded with one last breath of wind loosening the assassin's raven hair from where it was pinned. Shiryuu paid no mind as the familiar weight of his loose hair settled on his back and trickled over his shoulders. His eyes were only for his target. He moved forward this time taking the initiative to kill the beast.
The `demon' stood its ground waiting until the youth was within striking range. It sent its arms stretch towards the teen only to have said teen jump and begin to run along the extended metal flesh. It bought its other arm up throwing it out as well.
Shiryuu twirled the blade in his left hand and bought the other up to form a cross. He tore them away from each other quickly slicing out and around him. The first bit of the tentacle was effectively severed while the rest was diced and sliced until nothing was left. All the while the `demon' screamed and shrieked its pain to the room. Its black-red blood poured from its torn flesh. The detached meat of its arm steamed and burnt without the main body's energy to keep from decaying. All was left was a small ashen mark on the red tile floor.
Shiryuu took pity on the `demon' as it wailed. He flipped the left blade down in a stabbing motion through the `demon's' skull and started to withdraw it as fast as he'd put it in. At the same time, the blade in his right arm slicing horizontally taking the `demon's' head in one clean cut.
The artificial demon's body convulsed and shuddered before finally fell to the ground. Its blood seeping thick and instantly congealing to the floor.

Shiryuu sighed. “Start another one.” He ordered.
2nd training session commencing….request new level choice?
“Ie. Begin as instructed prior.”

Two hours later, Shiryuu emerged from the training room covered in both his opponent's blood and his own. He felt ragged and drawn thin. He'd have at least six hours to rest and recuperate before he'd have to do it all over again for the next week. Until he could make it without getting injured or at least know his opponent's fighting pattern, he would continue the regimen.
He walked numbly feet moving but the rest of him dozing off. He absently heard the calling greeting of the five to seven am guard as he passed through the hall. He never answered anyone who greeted him so the young brunette woman took no offense at not being answered. She also worried very little at the youth's appearance having gotten used to it now.
The room doors to Shiryuu's room finally hissed open giving him a slight comforting secure feeling that came along with his room. He listened closely not willing to open his eyes for any intruders. He found no other heartbeat other than his own. No other breathing other than his own. He continued going straight to the shower. He turned the water to a slightly burning temperature and sat in the corner of the stall. He fell asleep feeling the water beat against his worn body and quickly healing wounds.

/“I'm telling you, you should relax.”/ Claire yelled over the intercom of the training room. She glared down at the youth as he dodged another one of yet another B class `demon's' attacks. She only received a grunt before the teen moved forward removing the `demon's' head swiftly.

/”Your timing is fine, Shiryuu, give it a rest.”/
“Start another one.”
2nd training session commencing….request new level choice?
/”No! Override command, no more sessions.”/
This request requires a password confirmation.
“This doesn't concern you, Claire.” Shiryuu looked indifferently up at the girl. “I'll just go out and fight somewhere else.”
/“If you go out and kill a demon just to `train yourself for the assignment' you'll be jailed, killed, and/or some other things.”/
“Then leave me alone. Computer, start session with settings given prior now.”
Training session confirmed……
Claire sighed heavily in defeat as yet another B-class `demon' began to attack the young assassin. “What was I thinking falling for a guy like that?” She growled in exasperation. “And now I see him only as a little brother, something to protect. There's seriously something wrong with me.”
“I'd say.”
Claire jumped at the sound another woman's voice. She turned slowly finding a woman with a silver Mohawk and silver eyes.
“Hello, there, I'm Silvie.” Silvie was dressed in the normal uniform for office workers, a black pair of pants and white button-up. Just like Claire, she'd taken the time to put her own touch on her uniform. She wore a silver chain around her waist. The pants held a few stylish rips here and there and her shirt showed the tops of a silver lacey bra.
“H-Hi, you're new huh?” Clair asked. She offered her hand feeling a little dazzled by the woman's…looks. She looked stunning in a punk rocker chick kind of way.
“Yes, I am. I was told there's a half demon here and had to get a look for myself.”
Clair snorted and motioned towards the large one way glass before her. Just as she did, the `demon' fighting on the other side collided with it making the reinforced bulletproof glass rattle. “Damn it, Shiryuu!”
“Hn”
“Asshole!”
Silvie laughed merrily at the little exchange before become semi serious. “So what does this place need with a half demon?” She asked casually. She watched the woman carefully as she answered.
“To take out demons that threaten the peace between demon and humans.”
“So you only assassinate the demons?”
“No, no, we assassinate the humans too.”
“Well, equal opportunity and whatnot.” The two shrugged before settling into watching the short lived match between the half breed and artificial `demon'. “So what do you have to do to become a bad demon?”
Claire looked back at the woman and shrugged. “Sell weapons that could cause mass genocide for either side. Make deals with an S-class demon. S-class demons don't normally join in petty things like these.”
“Yeah, they don't have to live off of human flesh or anything like that. And they keep to themselves.”
“Yeah, just wish everyone else could learn to do that.”
“That would be the day.” The two laughed though it was entirely mirthless.
Inside the training area, Shiryuu finished off his opponent and left silently.
