Chapter #6: Awakening
~*~
A green haired young man ran desperately through the long white hallways ignoring every one that told him not to run inside a hospital. His hair was sweat and down like he had been hours without arranging it- something strange for a guy like him who was obsessed with his hair. Finally the tall man reached the door and opened it quickly asking immediately to the one inside the room about the young man’s health.
“How is he?”
“Not very well.” He calmly replied tying to look at ease.
He snapped getting upset by his calmness and indifferent behavior. “This is your fault, you know? He could’ve died!”
“Don’t yell. He is sick, get it?” He shot him with his ice cold glare trying to put him under advice- he wasn’t someone to mess with.
Yoshi sat next to the boy and reached out to touch his face; it was then when Aiko noticed he had the same outfit as the morning before. “Hoshi…little Hoshi, please be ok.”
“You haven’t changed?” Aiko actually wanted to know if he was still looking for the young boy when he called him.
His blue eyes glare at the manager and then smirked. “Neither did you.” He turned again to face the young one and caressed his face. “Poor baby- I’ll take care of you from now on.” He slowly stood up so he wouldn’t bother the sleepy young man and then leaned against Aiko narrowing his eyes. “He’ll go with me, get it? I don’t care what you say. You are not qualified to take care of anyone- you can’t even take care of yourself!”
“What are you talking about? I take care of all of you on tour. I am keeping him.”
“No you’re not. Look what you did. You get a little angry and fuck the world. You need therapy and you just don’t want to accept it. Why you two argue?”
“Not of your business.”
“Probably something stupid and you just hurt him with one of your poisonous phrases.”
“Look, I made a mistake; it doesn’t mean I can’t take care of him.”
“Let’s wait till he wakes up- he’ll decide.”
Yoshi was usually very cheerful, but also calm. The problem was Aiko- he drove him mad because there was no way to reach his heart, which was the main reason for him to be upset. He wanted for Aiko to change his attitude and start being more real; more human and less horribly cold. For the time ENICO has been together Aiko have been the strength, the hard worker, in fact thanks to him they were who they were today, but Yoshi was the heart. Every time someone was upset or needed to talk they went to Yoshi, never to Aiko, only if they needed help with something related to money or work. But even when he seemed so empty and indifferent to all, Yoshi knew he cared deeply for each of them since he always make sure all were safe and at peace. For being so mysterious and unreachable was the main reason for him to be so attracted to him. Maybe it was the challenge, maybe it was the good looks, but maybe it was true love.
Aiko have been silent ever since Yoshi’s last words- he didn’t liked his proposal of taking Chico away and he was also sure the boy will choose Yoshi instead of him. Minutes passed and since he was too tired he decided to sit down on the only chair the room had to take a nap. His honey eyes slowly got hid behind his eyelids as he closed his eyes but a sudden weight on his lap made him open them immediately again.
“What the hell are you doing? Get your ass of me!”
“No! I’m tired too. You’re going to sleep?”
“I’m very tired.”
“So am I and I won’t close my eyes until he awakes.”
“That could take days, or hours…don’t know.”
“I don’t care! If he wakes up I want to be there.” Aiko was loosing the little patience he had and pushed the taller man away making him fell down on his butt. “What’s the big deal, there’s only ONE chair and you have it!”
“You won’t put your dirty ass on my lap.” He stood up angrily passing right through Yoshi while he only stared amused. “Take the sit.” The brunette left the chair to the green haired guy and then slid right next to Chico. His angry face turned softer at the same instance he laid eyes on the slim figure laying in bed. The worry within him was stronger than any silly argument with his drummer; he was genuinely mortify for what happened to Chico and couldn’t stop blaming himself for the bad fortune the boy had.
“Don’t sit on his bed, you’re bugging him.”
“I am not, and stop arguing; it’s not good for his recovery. Stay quiet, he was hurt and is probably under some kind of shock or something.”
“What happened to him?”
“You don’t need to know.”
“Yes I do, where you find him?”
“In a horrible place- that’s all I’m telling you. But, Hoshi will need some help and care and I will give him that.”
“No you won’t! As much as I love you…I know you can’t handle it. You just can’t have anyone beside you for too long. You’ll always find a reason to send them away, right?”
“You should shut your mouth. I’m tired of your reclamations like I was your boyfriend or something- listen to me- I don’t want you sticking your nose on my business.”
“Fine…Mr. Ogre.”
“What was that?”
“That’s your nickname, Mr. Ogre. Hoshi named you. Ha, ha.” He mocked at the older man and he could only frown. “You see, that’s why he calls you an ogre. You’re always angry and frowning.” He couldn’t help it but to giggle.
“Very funny.” It wasn’t funny at all, and it really bothered him to be called like that- but for now he will forget about it.
~*~
Hours passed and Yoshi opened his eyes from the long sleep he had and noticed that Aiko was still awake, but what really bothered him was the caring look on his face toward the young boy. ‘What the hell is that Aiko? Are you falling for him? No, not this time, oh no.’ He watch silently since the brunette didn’t noticed he was being observed. He saw how Aiko brushed the raven hair softly and caressed the pale skin lovingly and it made him snapped. “He’s not Hoshiko, you know? He’s just a bum you caught up in the street.”
The look on Aiko’s eyes was indescribable- it was scarier than ever and Yoshi shrink on the seat terrified. “Don’t you ever call him a bum again- that was precisely what caused our argument and I forbid you and all of you to call him like that. He is Hoshi and that’s final.”
“Don’t take it too seriously or you’ll end up believing your own lie. I just wanted you to understand something- even if he looks exactly like our Hoshiko, he’s not, so don’t fall for him because of his looks. Don’t lie to yourself- this is someone else so you shouldn’t lie to your heart by making it believe your love is right next to you.”
“I know perfectly well this boy is not our Hoshi, but…he is also part of our group now and is also special. You are no one to tell me who to love- so stay out of it.”
“I’m only trying to protect you from hurting later- I...I love you Aiko, why can’t you look at me instead? Why? Is it because I’m taller than you? Do you like smaller guys? Or is it my hair color? I’ll color it black if you prefer it…”
“Yoshi…is not any of that. You just wouldn’t understand it and no- I’m not falling for him- I’m just worried.”
“Fine, if you say so…” ‘But your eyes betray you. Great, so my dear friend is my rival now…like they say everything is fair in love and war.’
“I’m so tired and he haven’t move even an inch. My eyes are closing.”
“I’ll go to the cafeteria and get us some coffee.”
“Thanks.”
Yoshi left and Aiko stay right next to the boy and held his hand. “Wake up Hoshi, come on. Wake up.” He waited and called on him a few times but nothing happened and he was getting even more frustrated. “Chico is me Aiko. Please, open your eyes. I promise…I’ll protect you. No one will touch you again, no one.”
Moments after the young man’s body quiver and his head begin to bounce from side to side like he was fighting it. He was murmuring something, but it wasn’t clear. “No…déjenme en paz…no, no me toquen, no! [No…leave me alone…no, don’t touch me, no!] NO! NOO! AIKO! AIKO! Help me!!! HEP ME!” He begins to shout and cry in his sleep. He was tormented by an apparent nightmare. “Aiko, please help me! Don’t leave me! I’ll be good- I promise to be quiet. I promise but don’t let them hurt me!”
Aiko was shocked to hear him scream those words, what was he dreaming about? Was it a memory of what happened or was it another dream? “Chico, Chico, wake up. I’m right here. I won’t leave you- no one will hurt you now. I’m here.” He pressed his hand stronger and shook him slightly to wake him up.
Moments after the cries ceased and the sweating did too; it was then that he blinked and opened his hazel eyes very slowly focusing little by little on the figure beside him. “Ai…ko.”
“I’m here. Don’t worry no more.”
“Aiko…” The boy stretched his arm and tried to touch the manager’s face with his fingertips and he permits him to do so by pressing the boy’s hand against his cheek. “Aiko, you came.”
“It’s ok now; you won’t be left alone again- I promise.”
“They…they robbed the clothes you bought me- I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “It doesn’t matter; you’re here and that’s what matters.”
“It was awful…so awful.” The tears ran down his cheek once again and the bassist tried to wash them away, but they just wouldn’t stop flowing. “They-they touched me and…and…ahh haaa!” He burst out to cry and jumped to the manager’s arms. “I don’t want to go back…I don’t want to. I don’t want to, please let me stay with you. I promise to be quiet and I promise to sing, but don’t throw me out. I don’t want to get raped again…I don’t want to live that again, not again…not ever again. I don’t want to get raped every day…I don’t want to.”
Aiko’s heart broke with the young man’s cries and each word penetrated his skin and opened an old wound in his heart. “I’m sorry. It was my fault, my fault little one. But I promise never to let you go again, never again. I promise Chico; I will take care of you.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
Yoshi opened the door only to find the young boy curled up in a ball against Aiko’s chest and his blood begin to boil until he saw the tears in the boy’s eyes. “Hoshi! OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU? WHAT DID THE OGRE DO THIS TIME?” He quickly placed the cups on the table and rushed to the boy’s side taking him away from Aiko’s arms to his own. “I’ll take care of you from now on…you’ll stay with me, ok?”
Chico felt his heart shrink and getting cold with the news. Did they decide that while he slept? Was Aiko in reality throwing him out of his house? Did he hate him that much? Since the boy though it was their decision he nodded and agreed to Yoshi’s proposal nailing a thorn in Aiko’s heart.
‘He rejected me; just like everyone else has…it’s always the same.’ Chico though sadly.
“Fine, then it’s settled- he’s mine.” Yoshi smiled to Aiko and he immediately stood up, took the coffee and went outside. ‘I won!’ He grinned. ‘Hoshi will be far away from you Aiko- you will be mine. You’ll love me and this time no Hoshi will be in the middle.’
Aiko felt pretty bad even when he was sure the boy will chose Yoshi. He felt like he had nothing to do there anymore- Chico had Yoshi, so he was no longer needed and decides to walk away. “You won Yoshi…you always get what you want. Maybe you’re better than I am.”
Inside the room the green haired boy tickled the black haired one trying to make him smile and feel better. In fact he cared about Chico very much, but no one could get between him and his goal, his love- Aiko.
“Aiko is a liar.” Chico finally said. “He told me that he’ll take care of me and would never leave me alone again…and now he asks you to take responsibility over me- what a jerk.”
“Well, you know him. He’s cold like ice- he cares for nothing but his interests.”
“Yeah…and I though he was nice after all.”
“Hey, it’s his fault you got hurt in the first place. He treat you badly and made you ran away…if not, none of that would’ve happened. I look for you all night and morning and he didn’t even want me to look after you. Now he plays innocent- but he’s not. He told us the tour was over and that you had left to the street were you belonged. But I knew you could get hurt.”
“Yoshi…you’re so kind and sweet. I’m so glad you’ll be the one with me all the time now.”
“I am too.”

He called Mieko and Takara to tell them the news. Mieko was happy, but Takara was indifferent. Aiko didn’t tell them what actually happened to him, just that he was injured. After an hour or so of sleep, he got out of bed, took a bath and went to a store near the house he once went with Chico and bough him what he had asked that time that he refused severely to get him. “You’ll like this for sure.” He ordered a basket with flowers and balloons to adorn the doll he bought him and send them to the hospital. “Make sure it’ll get there in less than an hour.” The seller nodded. “His name is Hoshiko Enico.”
Two hours later Chico opened his eyes and saw Yoshi smiling at him. “You still here?”
“I went home, took a bath and came back.”
Then he saw the colors and smile. “OH! Thanks for the gift!” He looked at the pretty balloons saying GET WELL SOON and smiled some more. After admiring the colors and figures on the face of the balloons, he looked down to the basket and saw the stuff toy inside. “THE TEDDY BEAR I WANTED!!!!” Then he literally broke the wrapping and took the toy in his arms squeezing it strongly against his chest. “How did you know I wanted this? I never had a toy in my life.”
“I didn’t sent it Hoshi…read the card.”
He was surprised to know Yoshi didn’t send it and then got curious and opened the card attached to it. ‘Get well soon; my house is empty without you - Aiko.’ The young man’s eyes got wet and started dripping uncontrollably. “Aiko…” His cheek turned pink while he released a sigh and a smile took over his lips.
