Sarah had heard of girls who climbed onto unicorns' backs and were never seen again. When she was betrothed to Richard Cooper, she slipped into the woods and rode a unicorn away.

Only after it had carried her into a county ravaged by dragonfire did Sarah recall other tales. The unicorn was the dragon's mortal enemy; a unicorn's horn in its heart was the one thing a dragon truly feared. A dragon would not approach a unicorn unless lured by a temptation too great to resist.

Now, Sarah wondered what bait a unicorn might use to draw a dragon near.
