6: the Revelation
“This is my fourth mating cycle. The first one I locked myself in my apartment, but I almost went crazy. The two after that I slept with some girl. What cycle is this for you?”
“Third.”
“That's not good.”
“Why?”
“This cycle is going to drive us to look for a perfect mate. Unless you don‘t mind being stuck with me forever you‘d better hope you‘re not the one.”
“That is a problem.”
“There is another option.”
“Why do you want to mate with me so much?”
“You're the only available one.”
“What about Starfire?”
“She likes Robin and Robin likes her. Robin already doesn't like me; I really don't want him to get any madder at me. He already has enough hate in him.”
“Hate?”
“Robin has a hate for Slade. Hate is powerful but once the source of the hate is gone the hate doesn't leave, like love.”
“I suppose that's true.”
“Well they're done.”
“What's done?”
“You like to ask questions, don't you? The dishes. I washed and dried them while we were talking.”
Devin turned to her and smiled. A small grin appeared on Ravens face. “Is that a smile?”
“No,” Raven stopped smiling and started blushing.
“Now you're blushing.”
“I am not,” Raven said turning a brighter shade of red.
Several dishes began to crack. Their eyes met and Raven couldn't bring her self to turn away. What's happening to me? she thought. She stepped closer to him basking in his warmth and looked at his lips. She started to imagine what it would be like to kiss him. Before she knew what she was doing, she started moving to kiss him.
“Titans the city's in trouble,” Robin's voice said from Raven's Communicator.
Damn, Devin thought as Raven walked to meet the other Titans. Devin followed swearing to kill the bastard that had broken that moment.
“Who is it this time?” Cyborg asked.
“Dr. Light,” Robin said.
“Oh crap,” Devin didn't look too good.
“What's your problem?” Beast Boy asked.
“Lights aren't really my thing.”
“Come on. One of the best assassins in the world can't be afraid of a little light,” Robin said a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
“You're walking on thin ice bird boy. Let's just get going,” Devin walked to the front door.
“We're you going?”
“To fight this Light guy.”
“Why don't we take the T-car?”
“T-car?”
When they got to the garage they all got in the T-car, “Stop here.”
“Why? He'll get away if we don't get him now,” Robin wasn't too happy.
“Don't worry. He'll stay in there for a few more minutes, at least more then five.”
“What's in five minutes?” Beast Boy asked confused.
“Sunset,” Devin said with an ear to ear smile on his face. Therefore, they waited, five minutes later Dr. Light still hadn't come out. Devin was leaning against the T-car watching the horizon.
“It's about time,” Devin stopped leaning and walked around the T-car to Cyborg's window.
“What?” Cyborg asked leaning out the window.
“Shadow time,” Devin said with a smile on his face as he pulled his hood up hiding his face.
As he walked toward the Bank a shadow ball formed in his hand. He grabbed the ball and it turned into a sword. Dr. Light came out of the Bank with several bags. Dr. Light turned to go before Devin called out, “Where do you think you're going?” Dr. Light turned around.
“And who might you be? Another would be hero?” Dr. Light fired a blast at Devin, but he blocked it with his sword. Dr. Light kept firing at Devin and Devin kept blocking. Devin's sword started to break; the pieces fell to the ground and faded away.
“Damn. You broke my sword,” Devin growled.
“That's too bad. Now get out of my way,” Dr. Light aimed at Devin again and fired. Devin fell and didn't move.
The Titans were about to help him but Devin got up. His hood fell back as he smiled. A pair of fangs glistened in his mouth and his eyes glowed red. Dr. Light turned around and started laughing; “You need to stay down boy.”
Devin started laughing, his voice had changed. His voice was deeper and seemed to echo. He started walking toward Dr. Light. Dr. Light started firing at Devin, but he just kept walking forward.
“Shadow Claw,” Devin's hand turned black. Devin slashed at Dr. Light. Devin started fighting like he was trying to kill Dr. Light. Devin fell to the ground and did a leg sweep bringing Dr. Light to the ground. He jumped up and brought his hand back. Robin grabbed Devin's hand Devin looked up at him with his eyes still glowing.
“Get off him,” Robin said pulling out his Bo Staff.
Devin snarled and leapt at Robin but was held by a black force field. Dr. Light got up and was about to make a run for it but was grabbed by Cyborg. When the police came and took Dr. Light away Devin had stopped struggling and his eyes were closed.
“You can let me go now,” He said with his usual voice.
He opened his eyes and they were back to there usual dark brown. Raven released him and he walked to the T-car. Robin ran up, grabbed his shoulder and spun him around, “Were are you going you've got some explaining to do.”
“Let's get back to the tower and I'll explain. The moon's about to rise,” He shrugged
Robin off and got in the T-car.
The other Titans followed. When they got back Devin went to the living room and looked out the window at the horizon. Raven convinced the others to let her talk to him alone.
“What are you doing?” Raven asked placing a hand on his shoulder. He glanced at her, “I waiting for the moon to rise. It's been so long since I looked at it.”
“What happened tonight?”
“It's something I've had to live with my whole life. It's the reason I became an assassin, at that's the reason I started drifting.”
“What is it?”
“Blood Lust.”
