The Beginning

“Don't you touch her!” a black haired man stood in front of a red haired woman. In her arms, she cradled a small five year old girl.

“Back off Alan, you can't protect that thing anymore. She is coming with me.” A dark shadowy figure screamed. The woman whimpered and hugged the child closer to her breast.

“That thing is my daughter… and you can't have her.” His voice was dangerously low. “Catharine run, get her out of here.”

“Alan… I won't leave you!” her tears where falling freely.

“Catharine, this is your only chance… RUN!!!!” He pushed her backwards, his eyes never leaving the figure in front of him.

“I love you.” The woman griped the child, tears falling harder as she ran away from her love. The sounds of metal hitting metal could be heard as she fled the room, the child in her arms calling out for her father. Catharine stopped for one last look, turning just in time to see her husband, run through with the sword.

“Catharine…” he reached for her, “I… l-love… you. I'm… so-so-sorry.” His body fell to the ground with a sickening thud.

“No, Alan!” she wailed. There was a loud crack as she desperately shielded the girl with her body. She felt the blood coming, she was dieing. “Sakura… run… away.” The child fell free from her grip as she dropped to the maroon carpet below. Blood trickled from the corners of her mouth as well as her nose.

“Mommy…” the child asked tentatively, shaking her mom's lifeless hand. “Mommy…Mommy … Mommy wake up!!!” Her tears where pouring down her face as she cradled her mom's hand to her face. All the while, the dark shadow slowly approached the body, and the sobbing child.

“Now Sakura, you are mine!” the figure gave off and evil laugh. It was so deep and so loud that it vibrated off the walls. He reached for the child…

“NOOOO!!!” she sat up in bed. Gasping for air she griped the sweaty sheets as tears fell from her bang hidden eyes. Sakura had been having that dream for years now, and she was still no closer to solving the mystery. “Why can't I remember… why… are they my parents… is it a memory… or just a dream… WHY?!” she screamed at the ceiling, grabbing the sides of her head with her hands. She knew the questions would go unanswered, they always did. No matter how hard she screamed at the ceiling, it just remained as white as ever… completely impassive when it came to her pain. “You are my ceiling; I bought and paid for you. You could at least do something?” she shook her fist at it, and then thought better of it. The ceiling, after all, wasn't alive, and it had never caved in on her before. “I'm sorry,” she stated, “I'm just really frustrated. I guess that is what you get for having no sleep.” The ceiling just remained as silent as ever. Sakura glanced over at the clock, 4:50 am. She was not supposed to be up for another three hours and ten minutes. This was really getting stupid; she really needed to do something about this dream. `Well, I might as well be productive. I could do my laundry or something.' She thought.

Sakura sat up and quietly swung her legs off to the side of the bed. Her feet where forced into her slippers as she slid off the covers. Grabbing her laundry as quiet as possible, she tip-toed to the door so she wouldn't wake up Amaya, who was asleep in the next room. One of Sakura's first memories had been waking up in the orphanage with Amaya looking down at her face; the girls where instant best friends. That had been about sixteen years ago. They had been five years old at the time. Now Amaya was twenty-one, and Sakura would be turning twenty-one that night. Since she couldn't remember her real birthday, the orphanage had just given her the day she was brought to them. She didn't actually wake up for three days, but Amaya and Sakura celebrated Sakura's birthday as the day they first met. Amaya treated it, and thought that that day should have been a national holiday. Sakura always laughed about it, but secretly it was as important to her as it was to Amaya… she would just never admit it.

Sakura picked her way down the hall, and slowly opened the door, closing it quietly behind her. She made her way to the elevator and punched the button.

Unwanted images of her dream flashed through her head. Why was it that when ever she tried to remember her past, she just got a major migraine?

DING!!!! `Finally… ground level.' She thought. The laundry room was as quiet and empty as ever.

“Well duh dummy, how many people would be up at this hour?” She shoved her darks in the machine.

“Just the beautiful ones like us.” Sakura jumped at the sudden male voice. She slowly turned around and was greeted by blond hair and sparkling green eyes. Just bellow the eyes were a dazzling white smile.

“William, you scared the crap out of me!” Sakura smiled, a hand going up to her heart, she was breathing hard… really hard.

“Well, do you know how beautiful you look when you are flushed?”

“Ha Ha…” Sakura threw her mediums into the washer and added the soap. Next were the whites, jeans, and finally the towels. William watched her intently, is eyes never leaving her. His eyes where making her nervous and uncomfortable. `Why does he have to stare like that?' she was really getting pissed.

“Well, I should get back to bed.”

“Why are you up this late Sakura, if you don't mind me asking?” she did mind.

“Just couldn't sleep.” She smiled weakly; all she wanted was to get away.

“Well, if you like the night life, you should let me take you out some time.”

“I'll think about it.” She lied through her teeth. William only wanted one thing from women, and she wasn't giving it.

“Hey, you turn twenty-one tonight don't you? Let me show you a good time tonight, k?”

“William, you know that today is for Amaya only.”

He frowned, “Ok… at least let me walk you to your room.”

“I guess so…” inwardly she was screaming like crazy `GET AWAY FROM ME!!!!!!' He opened the door and took Sakura by her slender waist. `UGHHHHH!!!!! I'm going to throw up!' Her mind reeled with a way to get him off of her when that familiar DING sounded, signaling that they had arrived on the floor. William walked her to her door and waited for her to open it.

“Sleep tight kitten.” She internally puked, as she fought the real bile in her throat.

“Umm yeah… you too.” As she turned her head to go into her room, William kissed her on the cheek. `Kami… it is a good thing that I turned my head… he was aiming for my lips!' she mentally screamed. William looked disappointed for a mille-second, before he flashed another award winning smile. He turned and walked to his room, waving as he went. He paused once to blow her a kiss.

“Men!” Sakura sighed as she slipped into her apartment. “They think that by saying a few nice things, the girls will just faint in their wake.” Sakura looked at the microwave clock, 5:30. Amaya would be up in two and a half hours, just enough time for time for Sakura to finish her laundry, take a shower, watch InuYasha, and have breakfast done.

Sakura smiled as she repeated to her self, “Well if I can't sleep, I might as well be productive.” She set off to do the rest of her am list.
