Chapter # 1: How it All Began
It was a chilly December afternoon, just after school and I had been at the skating rink, practicing a complicated Double Axel to prepare for the Sectionals Freestyle Figure-Skating Competition. I could hear my coach, Kim bark at me for not keeping my arms in close enough to my body as I was in the air. It caught me off guard and my balance was instantly lost. My butt hit the ice hard, a groan escaped my mouth and a few curses were murmured under my breath at my coach in irritation. Kim was the type of coach who would make you repeat the same thing over and over again until you had perfected it. She would never move onto something new or more exciting unless you were thoroughly comfortable with what she was trying to teach you in skating.
I slowly picked myself up off the ice, rubbing my sore bottom tenderly then began skating elegantly around the rink once more, hearing Kim's nagging voice telling me to take my routine from the top. I grumbled and begrudgingly did so, taking my starting poise in the center of the rink while she started my music. It started off with a layback spin, something quite easy for me now…but it had taken me months to perfect. I pushed off and out of the layback spin and into backwards crossovers to gain more speed. I readied myself to a simple waltz jump, toe loop combination and landed it with ease.
“ Remember to keep your arms tucked in during those jumps, and your first movement should always feel like a part of your next Shanelle!” Kim called after me as I preformed a spread eagle in a straight line, wobbling a bit at first…but soon regaining my balance and finishing to move.
After an hour or so, my skating practice was done and I gathered my things and began to walk home in the quiet dark night. It was cold, and I had nothing but a sweater over my skating costume with some slush pants over my legs on. I was doing fine walking back home in the dark until I heard a low growl, my azure blue eyes sweeping over the dense forest area I had to walk past in order to get to my house. I sighed shakily, reminding myself it was my wild imagination and nothing could jump out and get me. Oh but I was wrong, so very wrong indeed!
Strong arms of what looked like to be half man and half bull grabbed me around the waist, a hand covering my mouth just as I was about to scream. It charged forward with me still in its tight grasp, making me struggle more in fright. It was no use…It was plain simple that this totally unreal creature was not going to let me get away. I went lax, letting the monster take me where he pleased until we got to a strange pond that wasn't frozen over somewhere in the forest area. It made a grunting sound and started walking into the water, making sure it still had a secure hold on me too. It wasn't until I was up to my neck in the water did I realize that if he went any further with me I would drown! I frantically kicked and squirmed but soon we were both submerged into the liquid.
I tried to hold my breath, my face turning red from lack of air.
“ No hold breath, safe to breathe. “ The bull creature suddenly said, his voice was gruff and scratchy, but it was somewhat soothing to know that my captor was slightly concerned for my well being.
I let out a huge sigh, my mind swirled with confusion as I wondered what this creature wanted with me and why I could breath underwater. It didn't make sense…This was magic and magic isn't possible.
We came to a light, and the bull creature guided me through it as I still squirmed half-heartedly in his arms. What I seen beyond this light was beyond belief…Angels…Many, angels. Children angels, adult angels and sexy male angels all swarmed my vision. Was this real? Was I dreaming? Somebody pinch me I think I'm in Heaven! Well…No duh I was in Heaven…Just look at all the dreamy winged Gods! I almost forgot I was kidnapped when I was hurled out of my daydreams into reality, well sort of.
“ This place called Avalon, it home for winged ones. “ The bull creature said in that same gruff voice she had heard before.
“ Than why am I here?” I asked in confusion, the anxiety in my voice was to controlling for me to prevent. Why me? I was so busy already, my skating was taking up most of my time regardless of how I felt about it so I couldn't possibly muster up enough time to spare to go an visit some magical realm. Please let this be a dream!
Though I must say…All my doubts were quickly swallowed as a young man came into my view and he was walking my way! I quickly sought to tidy my hair, my heart thumped in my chest. Oh it was just those darn teenage hormones that were making me react this way to the being. I swallowed a lump in my throat uncomfortably as he smiled and stood in front of me and the bull creature.
“ Hallo, ma names Chase and you must be the Chosen One?”
Oh he was so dreamy, handsome and charming! I looked confused for a moment, the Chosen One? What exactly did he mean by that? I am an ordinary school girl with an ordinary life…Well not exactly but you must get the picture!
“ Chosen One?” I ask blankly, blushing as his lovely green eyes met my blue ones.
“ Yes the Chosen One…The legend says that a woman with extraordinary grace, power and oddly dressed would come to us…To he our kind defeat the fearsome Lucifer! “ Chase explained as he looked me over. It was then I was vaguely aware of my skating costume.
Oh I supposed this is what you would call oddly dressed! I fixed the hem of my simple yet elegant red outfit, another blush crept onto my cheeks. Well, what was I supposed to do here? Perform? That is about all I can do…There was no way in Hell I could be as brave as to defeat Satan or Lucifer is what the angels called him. I sighed, the power of tears overwhelming what little control I possessed before I burst into loud nerve-wracking sobs. They were sobs of frustration, confusion and anger…All mixed up in a pitiful package! Chase seemed surprised by this but soon his gaze softened and he placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“ Is there anything I could do to make you feel more comfortable? For I am sorry to say but you cannot leave.” Chase said in the most soothing voice he could scrape up.
I blinked through my tears and thought…Sectionals was soon and I had no way of getting back to Earth! This was horrible! I groaned and placed my head in my hands, mumbling half-heartedly a response to Chase.
“ Does your kind skate? On ice?” I asked hopefully.
Chase looked mildly confused and shook his head no, but seeing my crest-fallen expression he led me to a large frozen pond where the ice could have been as smooth as glass. I smiled, happy that I had at least had my skates with me.
