Chapter # 2: It's Not Just A Dream
I sat on a large sofa type pillow rather comfortably, it was the day for my hearing and the day my mission would be thoroughly explained to me. I glanced at the bull creature whom I now know as Achilles seeing him smile in reassurance. I had been here for almost a week, trying to make the best out of the situation and sometimes failing miserably. It just wasn't fair out of millions of people in the world I had to be the one chosen for this seemingly impossible task. I grasped Achilles large calloused hand as I watched a very superior looking angel strode into the room regally. He stared at me smugly, knowing that I was obviously admiring his looks, though somewhere in the back of my mind I felt guilty for admiring him. The handsome face of Chase always haunted my mind of these thoughts. I shook my head and tried to pay attention.
“ The task at hand should already be very clear to you my lady. Please, choose but two allies to accompany you for that is all that will be allowed for finesse and swiftness would be most ideal in order for this mission to succeed.”
I didn't want to argue with him, he seemed to hold a lot of power and authorities so I bit my tongue and nodded submissively, much to my distaste.
“ Well?” He demanded, his tone of voice was all but pleasant. I fumbled with named in my mind, the two being's I felt safest with were in fact Chase and Achilles who had already been assigned a temporary bodyguard.
“ I think my choice would be rather clear to you, but in case it isn't…I feel most comfortable with Achilles and Chase and have no doubt in their abilities that are required for this task. “ I spoke strongly, being graced with an appreciative gaze from Chase that made my heart skip and beat and a gentle squeeze of my hand from Achilles. It seemed there were no objections to my choices but I could hear snickering in the back round. I wondered why but my thoughts were led a stray when Chase and Achilles hurriedly ushered me out of the courtyard and outside in a more secluded place.
“ I don't even no where to begin looking Chase, how am I supposed to pull through? Please tell me…Am I dreaming or is this real?” I asked with uncertainty in my voice. True I did not doubt their abilities but when it came to mine I was not so confident. Chase looked at me and gave a warm smile that made my stomach do flip-flops.
“ Shanelle, you are much too hard on yourself…” He said quietly. “ I do not believe you are dreaming, for I see you and know you are real, I can touch you and feel the warmth of your flesh the same as you to mine. “
He paused and gently took my small hand in his, placing it on his firm chest for me to feel the beating of his heart and the heat of his body. I blushed a deep shade of red, my azure blue eyes cast downwards in my obvious embarrassment. He chuckled and let my hand drop. I looked up slightly, still very much awed by how dashingly handsome Chase was. A firm and set jaw, full lips that were always turned up into a boyish smirk. Deep green eyes, and scruffy sandy blonde hair. He was indeed quite a man and had looks great enough the make a nun go insane!
“ You look even prettier when you blush so violently…” He laughed, flashing her one of his impish and boyish smiled once more.
I scowled and immediately began busying myself with readying our supplies
“ I'm ready to leave now…Are you two ready?” I asked, trying very hard not to get caught up in Chase's green gaze. Chase nodded as well as Achilles and we slowly set off towards the gates of Avalon, my heart beating loudly in my chest with anxiety. Achilles walked by my side, his hooves clattering on the stone ground.
“ Lady, you ride on my back, yes?” Achilles asked, making me giggle slightly from his strange accent. I nodded and with help, climbed aboard the bull body he possessed, being careful not to hurt him in any way. I was actually very comfortable on his back, knowing that in Achilles care I was quite safe.
We traveled until at last we reached the gates of Avalon, the gates that separated the dangerous worlds the angels watched over. I watched in amazement as Chase molded his beautiful snow-white wings into his body, a feeling of pure envy streaked through me. I had always wanted to fly and watching Chase with his wings made me almost jealous of him! Oh great! I yet again found myself unable to take my eyes of Chase and what was worse he caught me this time! I raised my head up with pride, trying to keep down a blush with no success. I heard his deep chuckle and bowed my head, trying to prevent a smile from dancing across my lips. I gave a new name to this type of play, silent flirting.
It had been about an hour before we reached a dark and ominous looking forest, a shivered…Its aura making me feel uneasy. I cast a sidelong glance at Chase, seeing the same uneasy expression he held before he masked it a turned to me with a straight face.
“ The Forest of Despair is the only route to the closest village Shanelle, what do you want to do?”
“ I really don't want to go in there, but if it's the only way there I'm afraid we will have to go through. “ I said, trying as well to put a brave façade on. As much as I didn't want to go in there, I knew I must for if I completed my mission quickly I would be able to go back to Earth to practice for Sectionals. I looked ahead, knowing that grim times lay ahead.
