Prologue Pt. 1 -Darkness Rising
Pillars of smoke rose from the streets of Jump City as the night sky was illuminated bright red by the many fires burning at every corner. Over the crackling of the flames, screams of anguish broke the night calm. Chaos ensued the hearts of the citizens as they tried to escape the blazing inferno.
Children screaming for their parents through the hordes of panicking civilians.
A person lamenting over the charred corpse of a loved one.
A family watching in vain as their home was consumed by the raging fire.
Even the combined rescue force consisting of Jump City's finest and 2 other neighboring cities weren't enough to manage the entire distressed population.
Oh, and let's not forget the thousands of Slade's robots, roaming the city and destroying everything and every one in sight.
All this, Slade watched with cold, remorseless eyes from his massive air ship, the Manta, shaped like its namesake, the manta ray, floating ominously above the city. Just minutes ago, he himself gave the order that ignited thousands of strategically placed bombs all across Jump City in a deafening crescendo, and unleashing his army of minions, propelling the city to hell. A part of him, deep within the corner of his soul, was stunned at his own actions, though he just turned a deaf ear to his own pleas and focused on the hate in his heart to find the will to do this. Even if he wanted to, it was too late to stop now. A lot has happened since the Titan's believed him to be dead. For one, he had amassed all his resources to construct his flying fortress along with an army of his robots, all in secret. His appearance had changed as well, donning a long cloak that concealed everything but his masked face. He stood there in silence, observing the mayhem when a young feminine voice returned him back to reality.
“Everything is going according to plan, master.” Ravager began, leaning on the doorway that led to the bridge of the ship with a hint of carelessness intertwined in her voice.
Unlike his previous two apprentices, Ravager was the mark of excellence that Slade had searched for all of his life. Her cunning and accelerated super-human capabilities, tempered with her mastery of the sword and twisted devotion to him, made her his most indispensable possession. She donned an armored suit, much like the one Terra had worn when she was under his wing. The only difference was the bandana mask that she tied across her face showing only her beautiful, rose red lips, and the rapier that was hanging off her waist, which was usually covered in crimson red blood.
“Excellent news, my dear” Slade replied, turning to look at his young apprentice. “What of the Titans?”
A smile of amusement crept onto her face.
“They seem to be having trouble even breaking out of their own tower.” She said, much more interested. “Well, with the number of robots you sent there, I expect they should be.”
“I know the Titans, that won't stop them for long” he mused. “Deploy your troops and make sure that they are. Oh, and take Cinderblock with you, he needs his walk.”
“Thought you'd never ask.” She said, turning around to do her duty.
“By the way” Slade said, making her stop her in her tracks. “Bring him to me. Alive.”
“Of course.” She simply said, before disappearing around the corner towards the drop ships.
With a last look at his apprentice's retreating form, Slade returned to orchestrating his chaotic symphony across Jump city.
Meanwhile, at the T-tower, the Titans were having their own rampage, literally in their very own living room, as a seemingly endless stream of machines kept storming through every opening in the building. They could do nothing but helplessly watch the city burn as they continued to battle the intruders.
“Tell me again why Star, Rae and me can't just fly us outta here?” a panting Beast boy asked Robin for the 6th time before turning into a velociraptor and pouncing on a group of robots, ripping them piece by piece, then turning into a gorilla to backhand swipe another one, causing it to fly across the room, smashing into pieces against a wall.
The harsh sounds of metal crushing joined the music of battle as Robin smashed another robotic head off with his bo staff. Spinning the weapon once then thrusting it sideways, impaling a charging robot in mid run. He quickly raised the staff over his head and tossed the skewered machine outside, smashing it through a window. But instead of plummeting downwards, several coils of electricity held it in the air, slowly frying the machine until it exploded.
“That's why.” Robin said, turning his attention back to the battle at hand as he explained, delivering lightning quick strikes to any robot foolish enough to cross him. “They placed an electrofield that surrounds the entire tower, and while it's there, we can't go anywhere.”
More Robots came running into the room from the service stairs as
5 birdarangs conjured up in the boy wonder's hand flinging them towards the new comers. Each found a target and more scraps of metal joined the growing pile on the floor.
Robin spoke in a darker voice. “Trust me, no one wants to get out of here more than I do.”
The familiar whine of a sonic cannon blared followed by a series of explosions as the blast connected with its targets. Cyborg then turned on his heel and delivered a strong left uppercut to the jaw of a robot coming in from behind him, taking it off its feet and flying over the crash before it crashed through the coffee table. He trailed the sonic cannon at the fallen machine and blasted it before it could get up again.
“Oh no you don't” Cyborg retorted to Robin's remarks as he engaged another group of machines. “Remember the last time that happened?”
Robin shot down the remark as he decapitated another robot about to fire at him, “That's in the past.”
The couch was suddenly engulfed by an aura of darkness, courtesy of Raven, before it was sent flying towards another group of baddies, pinning them to the floor.
“Azarath, Metrion.” She chanted as various pieces of scrapped robots began to be engulfed by a dark aura “Zinthos!”
With that, the pieces darted to the air and shot at lightning speed towards the hallway, shredding down several robots.
She turned her apathetic gaze towards Robin. “The past seems to repeat itself when it comes between you and Slade.”
If Robin had heard her, he did not comply her statement as he threw an exploding disc down into the wall mounted vent, hearing it clank against the sidings before it exploded in the floor below, sending a cloud of smoke up into the living room. Not a moment later, he rushed out of the smoke to pounce upon another group of intruders across the room. Raven let out a sigh as the robots felt Robin's wrath before she heard the sound of twisting metal behind her. It was Beast Boy in bear form with his claws slicing deep into a robot that was about to fire at her back. The machine fell to pieces on the floor as Beast boy change back with a grin.
“Better be careful.” he teased, “I won't always be around to watch your back, Raven.”
A series of explosions came from directly behind him after that as more robots fell to the ground after receiving a starbolt to the face. Those that did not fall were immediately leveled with a series of punches that easily deformed the alloy armor of the machines.
Catching her breath and regaining poise, Starfire slowly floated to the floor with a puzzled look on her face.
“Tell me, friend beast boy,” She began innocently, her feet touching the floor. “Why is it that you would purposely look at friend Raven's backside?”
Beast boy merely looked at her with an anime sweat drop on his head as his mouth hung open.
Raven crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at the green superhero with an air of sarcasm. “Oh yeah, how would I ever manage?”
“Hahaha, She zinged you there dawg” Cyborg added, then looked around the room with slow realization. “Holdup, where are all the robots?”
Amidst the scrap covered floor, only the Titans were left standing.
Beast boy recovered from his humiliation long enough to survey the battleground and look at his teammates.
“Did we win?” he asked unsurely.
“It seems as though…” Starfire replied slowly as she scanned the dark spots of the thrashed room with green light coming from her eyes.
Robin strolled over to a fallen robot and stuck his foot on its chest plate as he pulled out his bo staff that he had used to harpoon it.
From beneath them, the sounds of clockwork footsteps grew louder.
“I don't think so” he began to the others, “Cyborg, could you do a sonar scan on the floors below us?”
But Robin did not need to ask as Cyborg was doing just that, his sonic cannon pointing to the floor as a light humming noise resonated around him. Seconds later, a grim look settled on his face
“We got more company.” He began as the sonic cannon was replaced by his right hand.
“How many?” Raven began in a monotone from under her hood.
“You sure you wanna know?” was Cyborg's answer.
“That is, not good” Starfire began in a way as if she lost all confidence in hereself.
Beast boy merely semi fainted and fell with his back to the ground as Robin had a dark expression cast onto his face. For the past half hour, the Titans had been battling and defeated a total number of 250 robots divided between the 5 of them. You literally could hardly see the carpet on their floor anymore as fallen machines and various debris littered the room. The walls themselves seem to be on the brink of collapse as they were peppered by holes ranging from miniscule bullet holes to ridiculously accurate outlined holes in the shape of a robot that crashed through it. Signs of fatigue were evident through the five teens as they stood there. Indeed, the Titans were nearly running on empty, and as long as the electro field surrounded the tower, it won't be long before they do.
Strafire was the first to speak, her fiery energy once again showing in her voice.
“Well I for one am not willing to stand here and just wait for them to come to us, I say we come to them.”
“That wouldn't change our situation, just speed it up” Raven said, “They'd still over run us.”
“So you're saying this is hopeless!?” Beast boy chimed in, his hands pulling his hair. “Dude, any more rapid morphing and I may end up not knowing how to turn back.”
“If that's what it takes to shut you up, go for it.” Raven replied irritably.
“There has to be a way to take out that field…” Cyborg mused to himself, analyzing the tendrils of energy that crackled into visibility once in a while outside.
Robin just stood there, hand on his chin thinking seriously. Suddenly, his eyes widened as a small grin of inspiration crept to his face.
“I think we can escape without even touching the field.” He began, causing all eyes to look at him “but first, we need to get to the roof.”
