Fan Fiction ❯ The Four Emeralds ❯ A New Name Pt. 2 ( Chapter 3 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

A/N: Yay! Another chappie up and my brain is soooo worn out. Please review!

Italics = thoughts or emphasized words
Bold Italics = notes
Note: The name Seiko is pronounced SEE-ko, and not SIE-ko. I don't want anyone thinking I'm talking about a psycho…

“Mr. Starn, can I tell you which name I've chosen at the end of class?” Ellie asked, deciding to change the subject.

“Absolutely. Please remember what I said and choose carefully.”

As she walked back to her seat, Ellie thought about the list of names. So many of them have the word beautiful in the meaning… does that mean I'm pretty?

When she sat down, she saw a small piece of paper on her desk. Opening it, she saw that it was a note from Lolli. No, Kioko. Don't forget to call her Kioko.

Hiya Ellie! So have you chosen your new name yet? And what happened earlier? I managed to re-conceal myself, but it was very difficult. Why'd you go talk to Mr. Starn?

Ellie smiled at her friend's nonstop questions and wrote a reply.

Well, there are so many choices! Almost 20 names! I'm not sure what happened earlier. Every other time I've taken my concealment charms off, my body just went back to normal. The light and everything else is totally new. I'm sorry about your concealments. I truly did not mean for that to ever happen. I was asking Mr. Starn about one of the names they put of my list. It's got a really weird meaning. Anyways, here are my top ten favorite names that I might choose: Takara: treasure; precious object, Kimi: she who is without equal, Kimiko: child of truth or beautiful child, Maemi: smile of truth, Tsuyu: morning dew, Kaori: fragrant beautiful girl, Naomi: pleasant one, above all, beauty, Sakura: cherry blossoms, Keiko: the beautiful or adored one, or Seiko: child the world depends on. The last one is the name I questioned Mr. Starn about. Isn't that strange? I mean, why would anyone depend on me, much less the whole world?!?

Ellie folded the paper back up and dropped it onto the ground. Lolli—Kioko pretended to drop her pencil and picked it up along with the piece of paper. As she read the note, her eyes grew round and large. She quickly scribbled back a reply and tossed it right onto Ellie's desk, not bothering with being careful to avoid attention. Ellie's curiosity got the best of her and she opened the note immediately.

20 names! No one ever gets that many! I had 3 to choose from! And the top ten you gave me are wonderful names! I can understand why you're having difficulty choosing one. My favorites are Kimi, Takara, Seiko, and Kaori. But to get the name Seiko, that is rare!So what did Mr. Starn say when you asked him about Seiko?

By the end of the hour, their notes read:

Ellie: He said that Mrs. Broth saw `something' and told him to put that name on the list. He also says that I'm going to do something special. I feel kind of weird asking this, but would I seem conceited if I chose the name Seiko?

Kioko: Absolutely not! And don't forget, you can choose two names. My full School Name is Satu Kioko. Satu means `sugar'. I guess they put sugar on my list because I act kind of hyper… so which name are you going to choose? You don't have to choose right now, but PLEASE tell me as soon as you do.

Ellie: I will. Thank you.

Ellie just sat there, looking at the list and thinking of combinations she could make with different names. Kimi Seiko, Seiko Takara, Kimi Takara, Taka Kaori, Kimiko Takara… so many choices! How will I ever know which one is right? Will I just know when I see the right one? I really like the name Takara and Kimi and I just have to use Seiko…I never knew picking a name could be so stressful! I think I'm going to go with Kimi Seiko or Seiko Takara.

Ellie pulled out another sheet of paper and wrote her thoughts down. She folded it up and passed it to Kioko. After about 60 seconds she had a reply.

Seiko Takara is very pretty! I like the name Kimi too, but not joined with Seiko. It just doesn't sound right. But choose whatever you feel is good for you.

Thinking it over, Ellie made her decision.

Alright then, my new name is Seiko Takara!

Glad that the whole thing was finally over, Ellie raised her hand.

“Yes, Elizabeth?” Mr. Starn answered.

Ellie walked up to the front of the room. “Mr. Starn, I have chosen my new name. My school name will be Seiko Takara.”

“Very good. Now, which of the two do you want to be known by? Seiko, Takara, or both?”

Ellie thought for a second, then said, “I'd like to be known as Takara.”

A/N: Ok, Ellie officially has a new name. What do you think of it? Together, it means precious or treasured child the world depends on. Review and let me know! Also, if you have any suggestions, I'd be glad to put them in my story. If you have a Japanese name, I can also fit that into the story. But please know beforehand what the Japanese name means. This is very important.
Ja ne!
