Brittany could barely contain her excitement and wonder as Alex led her out of the bedroom and down the stairs. When she asked where they were going he only said. “We are going someplace safe. Someplace, where I can tell you what I have need to without worry that someone might over hear.”

Brittany couldn’t help but wonder what brought about this change in Alex. I wonder what happened when he went to Medea? I mean, he told me that he’d tell me when the time was right, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this soon! This is too good to be true, am I really going to be able to find out everything? As far as I know no one can really tell me a lot about Alex’s past, but now I’m finally going to be able to hear it from the source. Maybe now everything will start making sense! Alex is somehow connected to everything I just know he is. The only real question is how.

Alex led her towards the back of the castle, stopping in front of a wall with a sword and shield attached to it. Alex pulled on the hilt of the sword and Brittany heard a ‘click’ sound coming from inside the wall. When Alex removed his hand from the sword the wall gave way to another passage inside the castle. Brittany stared in amazement as she looked at Alex, her eyes full of questions. Alex smirked at Brittany’s expression as motioned for her to go inside.

“Did you really think with all you’ve seen since you’ve been here that this castle wouldn’t have a few secret passageways.” Alex smirked as he peered inside the secret room. Once both him and Brittany were inside the door behind them closed, encasing them in darkness. Alex felt Brittany tense up in his arms at the sudden absence of light and he smiled at her reassuringly. “Just wait and hold on.”

Brittany didn’t know what he meant, but she held on tightly to him anyways. Suddenly the floor beneath them started to move quickly as they descended far below the castle. When the floor finally quite moving the darkness was overwhelming. Brittany couldn’t even see Alex’s face even though she was hugged up against his chest! She heard Alex hit something with his free hand and curse beneath his breath.

“It should be right here.” Alex said softly. After a few more seconds of moving around in the darkness Alex finally found what he was searching for. The room filled with light as Alex held a glowing orb in his left hand. Brittany soon realized that the orb was emitting the light as she looked around what she now saw was an enormous underground cave. The cave was filled with numerous items and chests that littered the ground. Brittany stepped forward and looked in amazement at everything she saw. Their were numerous weapons mounted on the far wall, along with a full body mirror with jewels encrusted on its rim, and another large shelf full of books.

“Alex, what is this place?” Brittany asked as she turned around to face him. Alex was starring at her with amusement and joy as he smiled brightly at her. He walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her waist as they turned and looked back at the cave.

“This my dear, is the treasure room. This is where either the most important or the most dangerous items are placed. There are many sacred items and magical items in here that are very dangerous, but also there are a lot of items that are just to valuable to be kept out in the open.” Alex informed her.
“So...is this where you wanted to talk to me?” Brittany asked afraid that Alex might’ve changed his mind.

“Not quite.” Alex answered. “Come with me there’s something I want to show you.” Brittany let Alex lead her towards the full body mirror and stop while he ran his hand over the edge of it.

“What’s this?” Brittany asked interested and irritated by the fact that Alex was taking so long to talk to her.

“This is a magical item created by Alcadan. It is said he created it for the original demon Lord to give him some solace and peace.” Alex replied. “After the Lord’s death all his items either went to Zanatos or were taken up by the remaining Lord’s. It’s been awhile since I’ve had any use for it, but what I am going to tell you is too important to risk letting anyone else overhear.”

“How does it work?” Brittany questioned as she ran her hand across the body of the mirror and not seeing anything special about it.

“Well originally it was only intended for the first demon Lord to use, lucky for me however that the original Lord of the south had that changed so that he could use it. Now watch this.” Alex motioned for Brittany to stand back as he positioned himself directly in front of the mirror. Alex raised both of his hands towards the mirror as he spoke. “I am Kane, Demon Lord of the southern realm, heed my words and grant me entrance into your sanctum.”

Brittany watched as the mirror began to glow, giving off a soft blue light causing the body of the mirror to ripple as if it were water. Alex turned back towards Brittany and extended his hand towards her.

“Shall we?” Alex asked with a mischievous grin on his face. Brittany nodded with excitement as she took Alex’s hand and walked through the mirror with him. Brittany felt a cool sensation as she passed through the mirror. Her entire body tingled with excitement as she stepped out onto the other side of the mirror. What she saw there amazed her. She found herself in a garden maze with roses on either side of it.

“Alex this is beautiful!” Brittany exclaimed as he leaned towards her and kissed her softly.

“I thought you might like it. The mirror reacts to the wishes of the one who activates it. It can take on any form you desire.” Alex said.

“You mean you created this place?” Brittany asked in awe.

“Well the mirror created this place, I just pushed it in the right direction. Follow me and I’ll take you to where we can talk.” Alex said as he grabbed Brittany’s hand and led her through the maze. Alex walked through the maze with ease despite its many twists and turns.

“Alex...” Brittany whispered momentarily losing her breath at the site that greeted her once she exited the maze. They were standing on the edge of a lake with numerous cherry blossom tree’s on either side of a path that led to a white gazebo. Alex wrapped his arms around Brittany from behind as he kissed her neck and whispered.

“So, do you think it was worth waiting for?”

“Yes!” Brittany replied quickly as she blushed at the beauty of everything. “Thank you, this is...this is wonderful.”

“I’m glad you like it, but save your thanks until after you’ve heard what I have to say.” Alex said in an ominous tone as he led her towards the gazebo. Brittany loved looking at the cherry blossom trees and listening to the sound of the lake and found herself mesmerized by their beauty. “I’m glad you like it, but if you want to know the truth I suggest you pay attention. I guarantee I won’t want to repeat any of it.”

Brittany quickly snapped back to reality as she sat down on the gazebo and stared intensely at Alex as he paced slowly back and forth on the gazebo. “No, if you’re sure you’re ready to tell me then I want to know.” Brittany said firmly. Alex nodded as he stopped and looked at her for a moment.

“Now once I get started I don’t want any interruptions. What I’m about to tell you is for your ears only. Do not repeat a single word of what I say here.” Alex stared. Brittany nodded as she spoke.

“Yes, I understand. I won’t tell anyone.” Brittany promised. Alex nodded as he started again.

“Now, before I get started I want to apologize for what I said when the mages came. While this is no excuse for what I said, this is the reason I said it. Brittany, you are my greatest weakness for two reasons. The first being that I love you. There’s no point in denying that now. The only reason I did before was because I was afraid that if Zanatos or anyone found out they would try to harm you to get at me.” Alex hesitated and bit his lower lip before continuing.

“The second reason involves when you first arrived. When I marked you, I placed something inside of you; something that is very important to me. I was afraid that if anyone ever found out they would try and take you from me, and in the end it would be my downfall. I know how this sounds, but I promised I would tell you the truth. Before you get angry or ask what it is, let me tell you the reason for what I did. The only way you will fully understand my actions is to know my past.” Alex finished. He could see the anger and question manifesting themselves in Brittany, but he knew he had to tell her the truth. “Before I go any farther I want you to know this. I care about you, I love you. I love you for you, not for what’s inside of you. I want to keep you safe not because I’m afraid of losing what’s inside of you, but because I’m afraid of losing you.”

“You are the only person besides those involved that will know what I am going to tell you. Maybe after you hear what I have to tell you, you will find someway to forgive me for what I have done. I never meant to hurt you or lie to you, its just that...I’m not sure what to say about it.” Alex said softly as he looked at Brittany who was starring at him with question in her eyes, but also a hint of understanding which gave Alex the courage to continue. “This story begins with betrayal, then moves to revenge, and finally...hopefully to retribution.”
