[An excerpt taken from the book of Linneaus, the story of creation, chapter 1:1-13]
Long ago, before there were material objects or humans, there were only gods. They lived in Asgard, their birthplace, in the beautiful Palace of Valhalla. They were content then, unmaterialistic* and blissfully ignorant until one god said, "This is foolish. Why waste our time like this? We are gods, are we not? Let us create another Realm, let us create creatures to reside here and let us watch the things they shall bring upon themselves." And so it was done. From Nothingness sprang the realm called Midgard, the home for the humans, creatures the gods created in their image; animals, creatures created to hinder the humans and to test them; and what other creatures the gods granted life to. Then, they created two guardians to watch over this realm. They were the Angels of Light and the Dark, Tif'eret and Zenon…
[Palace of Chios, July 10, 1450]
As the fire raged on, the ceiling supports fell, trapping whoever was unfortunate enough to be under it to the floor. It had spread from the dungeon up, burning the poor suffering prisoners first before moving and consuming the weapon Storage room. The barrels of gunpowder stored beside the cannons exploded when they caught fire, propelling the fire up to the next floor, destroying the weak walls and supports.
Many tried to flee, but the fire would somehow catch up with them. The supports would collapse, bringing the ceiling down or the floor would crumble. It made no difference; people were dying by the thousands.
Amongst the chaos, a group of knights shuffled down the corridors with their Prince as they sought some way out. When they passed the royal bedchambers, the prince stopped walking and his large sorrowful eyes fixed on the doors. Noticing that their charge was no longer walking, they stopped as well. The head knight, Hugo, took a step towards the boy. "What's the matter?''
Their prince didn't answer and merely stared at the chamber doors. Hugo followed the boy's eyes and saw that both doors were in a horrible state, barely on their hinges as though someone practically ripped them open with bare hands. The boy lowered his eyes and stared at the great pool of red-black blood coming from underneath the door. He raised an extremely long sleeved arm to cover up his nose when he caught the putrid smell of burning flesh. Whoever started the fire had killed the king and queen.
Just as the boy moved towards the door, Hugo grasped him gently by his shoulders and got down on one knee so he was eye-to-eye with the boy. "My prince, I'm sorry but we are too late.''
"No,'' he whispered fearfully, voice quivering and giving away his fear.
"They're dead and the dead don't come back to life, they go to Asgard where Shervu'mina judges them. I'm not letting you follow them, too. You must become the next king; you must continue the family line.''
He opened his mouth to protest, but he looked at Hugo's own sorrowful face and nodded. He didn't want to cause anymore suffering for someone who was the big brother in his life.
"Good. We'll have to get out.''
An unearthly scream interrupted him and a body flew passed them, nearly hitting the prince had it not been for Hugo who quickly rose to his feet, unsheathed his sword and sliced the body in half, splattering blood all over his armor and on the prince's face and clothes. It fell in two thuds on the floor in a bloody mess.
Everyone directed eyes towards the direction the body come from and fixed on the small figure of a boy exactly the same age than the prince standing several feet away from them. For a few moments no one could recognize him until the prince was struck with recognition.
"Brother!!'' he cried out, wide-eyed and almost happy.
The other boy smiled. "Very good Zack. I'm glad you remembered!''
Hugo glared at the prince's brother. "You again! Heathen, what are you doing here?''
The smile faded away and the figure sighed, shaking his head. "I thought you'd be glad to see me. And here I was thinking that I'd be missed!''
"Why would anyone miss you?'' one of the knights snarled.
"You tried to kill the prince!''
The figure scowled, his fists clenching. "SHUT UP!!!'' His pale blue eyes suddenly flashed a strange amethyst color and the ground around him broke into millions of fragments, his amethystine aura growing and engulfing all the knights save Hugo and the prince, reducing them into nothing more than bloody corpses leaning against the walls like broken dolls.
Hugo's eyes went wide in between a look of disbelief and a glare. "W-what have you- -''
The figure shrugged. "Oh, nothing much. This is just a sample of the power I have gained.'' He smiled again, innocently at first before it lengthened into a mocking smirk. "You've been running around and around, trying to escape, but in the end I still found you. Now...'' He extended his arm, offering his hand. "Come here, Zack. I'm not going to hurt you, I promise.''
The prince looked hesitant at first before he took a step forward, only to have Hugo blocking his way.
"Don't listen to the demon, Your Majesty!''
" Shut up, Hugo!'' The boy snapped and then continued in a soft voice, "Come on, Zack.''
"SILENCE, DEMON!!!'' Hugo charged, blade positioned to be thrust through the smaller figure's chest, only to have the boy's arm shooting out and piercing his armor, going through his flesh, muscle, bone and heart easily and coming out his back all bloody, killing Hugo instantly.
"Stupid fool. Why fight a battle you know you can't win?'' And withdrawing his arm, he didn't bother to look as Hugo's body fell to the floor with a thud.
The prince's wide eyes had been on Hugo, and he now raised them to look at the other boy. Tears welled up in his eyes, yet he wasn't even aware of them. "W-why…?''
"The man was getting old, and besides, he was interfering.'' He shrugged and laughed as he approached the prince with casual steps. "Zack, Zack, Zack, don't be sad.'' He was now standing a foot away from his brother and with his clean hand, wiped away his brother's tears. "Zack, you're so beautiful in tears. I wish I could have such an innocent face, such innocent eyes! Ah.'' He stretched out both of his arms and embraced the prince. "I think I'm in love with you.'' Craning his neck slightly he pressed their foreheads together. Their eyes locked, and then there was nothing but harsh white light as the castle was engulfed in a powerful explosion.

In the distance a platinum-haired figure watched and shook his head. "Librius, you'd better be paying me well," he muttered before walking down the path towards the castle ready to claim his prize.
A/N: What a powerful Prologue! I like it. Don't you?? Apologies to Elf Asato who seemed to like Hugo. I liked him too, but he---oh Hugo! ~Requiem~
