Chapter Five - The Result of a Battle
Where could Kite be? Lor wondered as she bounced a tennis ball on the courts. She felt bad about playing tennis when she had no idea where Kite was or if he was okay.“Zero, fifteen!” Lor called out before hitting a serve into the other side of the court where her sister Tia waited idly. The ball hit in the right box of the other side of the court, diagonally from her. Her sister, returned the good serve and Lor immediately got it over the net. “Fifteen, fifteen.”
Later that evening as darkness began to creep upon her house, Lor began to get very worried for Kite’s safety.
I shouldn’t have sent him out there alone, Lor thought herself as she sat on her carpeted floor with her back to the bed. What if he got lost? Or ....
Suddenly a scratching noise was heard at Lor’s window and immediately she went to it. It was Kite. Lor unlatched the locks on her window and opened it as wide as she could, letting in gusts of wind from the windy, yet warm outside. Kite leaped up onto the window sill, with ease, and stayed perched there as he tried to catch his breath.
“Kite! You’re badly injured!” Lor exclaimed as she examined the blood coming from several wounds on his body. He had been in a battle. And the culprit was most likely, Lynx. But how had Kite been beaten so badly by a common house cat?
“It’s nothing really,” Kite responded in a faint, yet confident voice. “I’ll tell you the story if you’d like to –
Kite suddenly began to fall forward from the window sill as his breathing became even more staggered. Lor moved quickly to catch Kite before the floor broke his fall. Lor look him over as he stayed in an almost motionless state. His breathing was not normal and his wounds were worse then she had thought as she closely examined him.
Lor moved him to an open space in her room where she could lean against her bed. She placed his head on her lap and began washing his wounds with a washcloth.
“Kite, can you speak?” Lor asked as Kite slightly opened his eyes.
“Err... I think so,” Kite said weakly.
“Don’t talk if it hurts to,” Lor advised as she gazed into his eyes with a look of compassion for his present state. “I cleaned up most of your wounds. They didn’t seem too serious so I’ll just need to bandage them up. I’ll be right back.”
Lor placed Kite’s head on a pillow and went to the bathroom to get bandages.
My body is in so much pain, Kite closed his eyes, trying to relax, despite his great pain. I never thought that just one battle could give me so many injuries.
“Okay,” Lor said as she entered her room and crouched near Kite to bandage him up. “This may take a while, but you have a lot of wounds. Oh, and I brought so antiseptic spray so you don’t get an infection as a human. This may sting a little.”
“Sting?” Kite repeated. Lor sprayed the antiseptic onto one of his wounds. “AHH–”
Lor placed her hand over his mouth.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t let anyone know you’re here,” Lor said softly. “Please just bare with me for a while. I’m doing the best I can to treat your injuries.”
“I’ll try,” Kite said with a small tear in his eye. “But that really hurt.”
“Would it help if I rubbed your head?” Lor said as she began rubbing his head softly. She then sprayed as quickly as she could.
“Err,” Kite strained where he lay on the pillow. “It helps.”
“Okay. Then I’ll go ahead and spray everywhere, as fast as I can,” Lor said. She then began wherever she could, as fast as she could. Kite tried his best to stay still through the spraying, but before Lor could finish the last few sprays Kite couldn’t take it anymore and dived for Lor.
“No more,” He begged as he dug his face into her hair. His arms grasped firmly on her sleeves.
“But I only have two more to go, Kite,” Lor replied in a soft and reassuring tone. She couldn’t help but smile as Kite held onto her tightly, hoping it would all be over.
“But it hurts worse then the pain itself, Lor,” Kite whined with sadness in his voice. Lor took the opportunity, while Kite wasn’t looking, and sprayed the last two. Kite’s grip tightened more.
“Kite, your done,” Lor announced. “I need to place your bandages on now.”
“Promise you aren’t going to spray me again?” Kite asked.
“Yes,” Lor said with a smile.
Kite let go of Lor’s sleeves and laid back on the pillow where Lor began to bandage up his wounds.
“So, what exactly happened, Kite?” Lor asked as she placed bandages on his wounds.
“Well, I went off looking for that cat, Lynx,” Kite started. “It took me a long time, though, because I don’t have the senses of a cat in this human form. But when I found him it was almost sundown and I couldn’t talk him into going back to the vet for anything.”
Lor looked at him intently as she continued to bandage up his injuries. “So then how did you get all these wounds?”
“Well, I was just about to forget about the whole thing when I remembered you really wanted this cat back to the vet. So I tried to bring him by force. Unfortunately, I had no idea how strong he was.” Kite told Lor as she looked at him with soft eyes. “I tried to battle him and over power him, but he defeated me as if I were a kitten. But don’t worry, Lor. I’ll track him down again and this time I’ll beat him.”
“No!” Lor yelled. “I don’t want you to come back like this again. Next time it could be worse.”
“But, Lor, I know how much getting him back to the dorm means to you,” Kite replied. “I want to help you.”
“I’m glad that you want to help me,” Lor responded. “But I don’t want you hurt, Kite.”
Kite smiled as he heard Lor’s response. Lor, feeling a little embarrassed about confessing something like that, turned away from Kite and stared at her current work of bandaging.
“Thank you, Lor,” Kite said as he placed his hand over hers. “I wouldn’t want you to get hurt either.”
Why is he acting this way, Lor blushed as she thought. Surely he doesn’t have feelings for me. What am I saying?! Of course he doesn’t! He’s just a cat. Of my gosh! I’m falling in love with a cat! Well, technically he isn’t a cat at the moment, but it’s still really weird. No! I have to keep calm, I can’t show any signs of emotions or feelings towards him. Even if he is cute.
“Are you alright,” Questioned Kite as he removed his hand. “It’s that public affections thing isn’t it?!”
“Hmm?” Lor looked at him and smiled. “No, of course not!”
“Hmm, well don’t think you’ll be getting out of it just because I’m hurt,” Kite said aloud. “I’ll be well soon, and I’m gonna make up for all the time I couldn’t help you!”
“What!? Hey, who’s the owner here?” Lor questioned in an annoyed tone.
“Aw, come on. It’s going to be fun.” Kite replied before yawning. “I’m getting a little sleepy.”
Kite closed his eyes just as Lor finished her bandaging. Lor couldn’t help but gaze at him as he slept so peacefully, even if it was on the uncomfortable ground.
He looks so cute and peaceful there, Lor thought with a smile on her face. Just makes me want to ruffle his hair.
Lor would have done so, but she didn’t want to wake up Kite, so she gave him a gentle rubbing on the head to ease his pain as he slept.
That feels so good, Kite was enjoying the attention Lor was giving him. He had appeared to be asleep, but he was only lightly resting, as cats often do. I love it when she rubs me on my head. It makes me feel so relaxed. It makes me want to be closer to her.
