Chapter two - And so it will rise again

The young princess traced after her parents not because she was curios but she had to get back out of the castle. Back to be were she had been.

Hoshiko looked down uneasily she was too quick to help before she had realized what she had just committed herself to do. "Can we really do this…."

"Hmmm?" Aleron had been lost in his own thought too notice the conflict building inside his wife.

"You know… use it… piece it together again. You understand that's why Zelda sent us the note."

Aleron looked a bit cautious and nodded his head as he spoke. " She didn't see what it did Hoshiko. I have a feeling the others won't know of our arrival." Hoshiko nodded. Aleron remained quiet he had grown that way over the years. His eyes always shut and ears pricked, as if he was listening to something distant. Hoshiko never quite understood this but accepted it with him.

Hoshiko reached into her blouse and pulled from it a small diamond like crystal. It was bound with a silk red ribbon it fit like a necklace. Aleron watched her hold it and then reached into his own tunic and pulled from it an emerald like crystal wrapped in the same fashion and ribbon. They were in a way, scared. The sacred treasure of their land held many strange powers and could do horrors to those unable to control its power.

The green crystal found its way to Hoshiko's hand. The lovers looked into their opposites' eyes, a smile of reassurance was all it took from each, and together they walked out of the castle toward the forest and to the sacred temple.

Adamina trailed closely behind guarding herself against her father's keen hearing. Her parent's rarely traveled outside the castles worn walls only for the daily training but as they strode pass the large wooden doors their swift exit stoked Adamina's curiosity. Puzzled she ran behind easing her way through the twisted cobble stone streets making a detour to her usual exit. She wasn't supposed to be out here and, so with hard labor night after night she managed to release a stone from the outer wall. It moved easily and was well hidden behind large bushes and soon she was back on her parents trail.

Hoshiko lifted up her skirts as they reached the sacred Forrest. She now remembered why as a child she rarely wore these flashy things. Eventually after one rip after another she gave up and Aleron broke the silence with a muffled giggle. She returned his laughter with a light push on his shoulder making him stagger to the side a bit. Small creatures scattered and yellow eyes watched from the trees and hills. They seem to watch with caution at that which walked before them but truly it was that behind that kept them from attacking.

Hoshiko looked around seeing the moon glowing eyes and wisps of fur and scales dance around them taking Aleron's arm. Noticing his lack of attention she looked up at his face. His right hand held his chin and once again his eyes were closed, ears pricked and mouth hinting no emotion. His blonde hair and small moustache wafted in the breeze. Hoshiko had asked him before but he never quite told her the reason for this sudden change in moods. She thought she'd ask him again.

"Dear what is it?" her words were soft and concerned.

"I hear them…" was all her replied.

"Who?"

"I don't know." Hoshiko looked a bit puzzled and more worried than ever but Aleron silenced her and began again. "I hear their screams and calls… their laughter and longing."

"How long have these things been going on?" Hoshiko's words were a little louder as her fear grew.

"Don't worry yourself M' love `tis nothing to fear over. It's my curse as all of us have for holding these accursed gems." He motioned toward the crystals Hoshiko held. "Ah look the clearing," Hoshiko's head jerked up in surprise and forgot about Aleron's woes for the time being. Lives were at stake now; she'd help ail her husband later.

Adamina now was less than thirty feet away and had to duck down as her father turned to view that which was behind him. He furrowed his brow he knew something was out there. They were telling him. He turned back and walked over to his kneeling bride bent over a large stone, the sheika eye and double dragons' symbols on it etched in red. She remembered her last visit here and gently caressed the dented stone. He was the reason of her pain and suffering and the last time she opened the holy portal death had been the end result. She questioned her heart on the task set. Aleron put a reassuring hand on her shoulder but even his presence wasn't enough to overcome the pain inside. Adamina witnessed her mother cry for the first time.

"I will not let them take those I love again!" Aleron's eyes showed surprise as his wife issued her daggers with cat like reflexes, out of their holders and into the stone. A sharp clang sounded and the mysterious light shined again radiating a power that Aleron could barely stand to. Hoshiko was unaffected but Adamina's frail body was flung backward and into a shadowed grasp her cry muffled by a gloved hand.

The ray lasted for several minutes and soon an earthquake began signaling the rise of the Temple. Adamina's eyes were wide as the hand removed but the grasped remained. She held on to the large arms as glistening moonlit marble climbed out of the mountainside. Symbols of every sort littered the white stone and a large oak door signed the entranced. The King and Queen stood together and looked in awe at the wondrous work of Farore and her sisters. Shaking their emotions away they silently entered the temple.

Adamina shook loose of her captor's hold but was caught again by the arm as she began to wary near the temple.

"You mustn't go in there child," the voice was deep and wise.

"Please my friend I must see this miraculous wonder!" Her words were sharp and eager. She struggled against the large one's grasp.

"There is nothing for you inside the Temple of Creation but perhaps someday you will be granted entrance as it keeper but for now your place is outside it's walls." The stranger's voice was calm and persuasive and soon Adamina ceased her resistance. "Come you've much to tell me and no time to do it in. Let's go back to the cave." Adamina nodded and together they traveled through the woods to a small alcove in the mountainside.

Adamina looked at her tall friend she had met as a child. He was a huge man like beast but his heart was kind and cared for that around him. He was wiser than the oldest owl and knew just how to cure her ailments. His hair was black with streaks of gray, flesh worn and scared, and eyes white. He adorned himself in brown and black seemingly endless layers of clothes falling over his form like a muddy river. Outstretched infront of him a long staff which he used to find his way for he was blind. He was a dear friend to the young princess and was the one she would turn to for any emergency.

They walked for less that a minute before the man's humble abode came into sight a small fire lighting the place up. It blinded Adamina for a moment giving a certain sneaky trespasser just the opportunity to strike. With a howl of delight the brown beast lounged onto the small teenager who squealed as a slobbering sticky tongue greeted her face.

"Sombre get off!" Adamina said. The dark man just laughed a bit to himself. However, despite her pleas the slimy appendage struck her face again and again.

"Alright Sombre I give I give!" Adamina cried and the large wolfos released the tender princess. With a howl of delight the wolfos trotted into the cave and sat awaiting his companions to join him.

"I think he gets a kick out of doing that." Snickered the man. Adamina just giggled. They walked into the cave and Adamina sat down on a log close to the fire. The man adjacent and the wolfos near her feet.

Sombre was rich brown in color his fur silkier than silk. Amethysts were set into his skull surrounded by various line and dots encircling around his long snout. His teeth sparkled in the light and his claws sharper than any dagger enabling him to be the fierce carnivore he was. However this particular beast had been tamed only by two, Adamina, and her shadowed friend. Sombre was highly protective of them both baring the pearl teeth and razor claws at any threat.

"Now what brings you back here after I sent you home and why are our parents out in a place they swore they wouldn't go back to?" his voice was filled with curiosity and concern. Adamina looked down at Sombre who winked in response.

"I had to tell you we're leaving tomorrow… I think. I wanted to give your flute back so you can perform the ritual yourself. I don't want all this to die." By this time she was holding the turquoise instrument out to him, but he made no motion to grab it.

"Did I not tell you the flute is yours?"

"Yes but the woods."

"Child I've lived in this land all my life for over fifty years and I can guarantee you that this humble land shall not fall ill because the song is not played. In fact it would be good for them to have to work a bit harder for life." He laughed a bit. " Not child tell me more of your trip and then you shall be on your way home. Now were is your family headed and why in such a rush?"

Her face was filled with mixed emotions of enthusiasm and worry. "We go to Hyrule."
