Promises and Breaking
Tarin awoke with Arda still sleeping in his arms, her head against his chest, hair sprawled over his arm to the edge of the cot; she was beautiful, breath taking. He gave a smile and gave Arda a kiss on the lips; she woke up as soon as his lips touched hers. “Morn-“ his greeting was engulfed by a kiss Arda lunged at, kissing him full on the mouth, her tongue begging to ply with his, him answering her as soon as he got his brain back.
When Arda broke the kiss she lay against his chest again. “You have no idea how long I have wanted to wake up in your arms…preferably, though, naked with a blanket draped over us, and not in a jail cell.” She panted out as she tried to regain her breath.
“I love you Arda…I love you so much…”He gripped her to him, his hand one the large of her back.
“I love you too Tarin.”
“AWWW…isn't that sweet? Too bad it is illegal. Arda, it would never work between us, you love the halfling TRASH!” Drakuse said from the front of the bars.
Tarin started to growl, baring his teeth in a territorial snarl, saying Arda was his property. Drakuse understood what the growl meant, and dually acted like the responsible adult he was.
“You moron, you can't own property! Slaves are not aloud to hold land, items, or people in their possession.”
“Well, the demon part of him says I am his.” Arda said sitting up in Tarin's lap, his arms over her shoulders.
“The demon part of him is only half as strong, why should that affect anything?” Drakuse was getting a bit ticked that she kept refusing him.
Tarin began to nuzzle Arda's neck, half for the affection, half to make Drakuse feel worse. Now he was purring, completely enwrapped in Arda's scent. “Disgusting!” he said with a face of complete anger as Arda smiled and laid her head on his.
“Why so angry Drakuse? Bested by a halfling for the love of the most beautiful girl in the city? Turned down by the richest, most beautiful girl?” Tarin said to him, his face smug.
“Laugh it up HALFLING! You can't give her a decent life, no one will hire you, they will enslave you!”
Tarin's face fell at realization dawned on him, he could not give her a normal life, a safe and content life, no matter how hard he tried. Arda smiled. “Whoever said I wanted a decent life? I want adventure and work, I want to fight and be aggressive and free, I want love, and kids, and…Tarin.” She said and latched her delicate hand to Tarin's calloused hand.
“…” Drakuse stood there in front of the cell, his forehead one of the bars. “I thought you were better than this Arda…”
“Well maybe I settle for less, if you are so important…” she replied, her eyes on Tarin's.
“…How can you love a halfling…and not me?”
“I can't explain love…” Arda started.
“You have to feel it to believe it exists…” Tarin continued.
“And even then it is hard to get.” Arda finished.
Tarin gave Arda a small chaste kiss. Drakuse left without a word, his head held high, his pride carried in his pocket. “I think we hurt his feelings…” Arda said a little sad she hurt someone, even Drakuse.
“He deserved it, he is spoiled beyond compare.” Tarin told her, and kissed her neck once. “How come you aren't as spoiled even though you have even more money than he does?”
“I used to be beaten daily for misbehaving…Marta's orders…she was very strict with me…so I was constantly behaving.” Tarin squeezed her closer to him and purred softly as he nuzzled the croak of her neck again.
“I promise to never hurt you, to never let anything hurt you.” He whispered to her and held her all the tighter.
“Hey stop it you two, we are moving you to the main compound.” A guard barked out, opening the door as he pointed his gun to Tarin. “Move out.” Tarin and Arda walked out of their cell, to see Triach and the girls being ushered out of their cells in a much nicer fashion.
Arda grabbed Tarin's hand as they walked down the hall, side-by-side. “Stay away from each other!” The guard said, lifting his baton to hit Arda, Tarin catching the poor man's wrist and crushing the bone under his grip.
Tarin was thrown over, convulsing from a shock from the Chief behind him. “You get to the infirmary. Tarin, you are being a very bad boy.” Arda was beside him as he fought the convulsions, becoming still and sitting up.
“Hello chief…” Tarin said a bit exasperated as he held on to Arda for support.
“What the hell are you?” he asked amazed as Tarin stood up on his own now, in less than ten seconds.
“I am a half demon and human.” He said cracking his neck.
“Sexy Tarin.” Arda said with a face of disgust, she thought cracking bones was disgusting.
“I know.”
“But that was at 100 volts! Any human would be dead, a half demon would be stunned for half a day, heck, any full demon would be stunned for an hour in the least!”
Tarin kept walking, to the main compound, under supervision, of course. “It felt like I absorbed the electricity.” Tarin said to Arda.
“Hm…I kind of agree with him,” Arda pointed to the chief behind them. “What the hell are you?”
“I don't know…” Tarin looked at his calloused hand, slim, but strong, deceiving looks and strength…able to crush steel, yet gentle enough to touch skin, he was a being of conflicting strengths…one of power and one of gentle caring.
Arda saw his head drop and she wondered if what she said had hurt his feelings, he was more sensitive than he cared to admit…”Tarin?” Arda asked putting a hand on his shoulder.
“Yeah?” he asked more hurt than not.
Yeah…he's hurt…”Tarin I don't mean it that way…” she said her head turning to the side of his face as she saw a dark strip of skin on his temple down to his chin.
“Then how do you mean it?” He asked, a slight hiss in his voice.
Arda took a step back at the tone of voice he held, he also stopped walking forward.
The chief was a bit worried…Tarin was no one to mess with. “K-keep moving!”
“Shut up.” Tarin said looking Arda in the eye.
“Why are you so pissed?” Arda asked, not getting what he was angry about.
“Five words: `what the hell are you?' Words from your mouth.” He continued to walk to an open cell where he turned to the chief. “This our cell?”
The chief nodded and Tarin sat in the corner farthest from the bars in the right corner.
Arda sat on the cot on the wall, starring at Tarin; he didn't even look at her. They kept quiet the entire day, Tarin just sitting there, no one talking to him. Triach and the other girls were eventually moved into the cell across from the.
“Arda, how come you and Tarin aren't close to each other? Have a fight?” Triach asked, holding the hand of Bellas and the bars in the other. Sasha stood next to Bellas.
“He is mad about something…we will tell you later.” Arda answered and laid back on the cot. Later on when night fell it became cold for Arda, and Tarin was just fine, asleep in his corner, his legs outstretched to make him more comfortable.
Arda walked over quietly and sat on one of his legs, resting her head on his chest. “Tarin…I doubt you can hear me, but I don't think you are a monster and I love you, I really do.”
His arms wrapped around her back, pushing her closer. “I heard you just fine.” He said to her, his head hovering above hers.
Arda looked him in the eye, through the darkness, his iris's glow in the dark, their crimson color not scaring her. Arda pulled his face down for a kiss. “I love you too Tarin, but I swear to god, if you do that to me again…you WILL PAY!” she grabbed his hair on the side of his face brought him down for another kiss.
