The next morning both Laura and Lauralla leaped out of bed and ran down the stairs to find the old woman preparing breakfast, during breakfast, they kept pestering her to tell them what she knew about the Lost Black Woods. Finally after breakfast, she sat down on her rocking chair and said she would tell us whatever she knew. Her eyes glazed over and a mysterious voice filled the room:
In the dark and lonely woods,
Only the pure minded can exit out,
The others will be red and dead.
To wish to get out just think opposite,
To wish to find death just think ahead.
The old woman then sat up and said, “Shoo off, since you have the poem, just follow the poem and your instincts and you will get wherever you want somehow.” Laura and Lauralla were still pondering about the poem when they were ushered out.
Then, they were thinking about the poem when Hazel said, “Pure minded means us, as in the good mistress.” Laura was murmuring, “To wish to get out just think the opposite……………” Silver said, “Opposite?” Laura said, “That's it! To get out we have to think about the dragon's lair! Just like we did!” “So, if we want to get to the dragon's lair, all we have to do is want to get out!” Lauralla continued for her.
All of a sudden, they heard someone clapping, it was the old woman, and she was smiling at them. “Well done! You have solved the poem! Now you can save many lives!” After that, the old woman clapped her hands twice and she and her house disappeared. Laura and Lauralla were very nervous about meeting the red dragon but silver assured them that she would be there with them. They entered the woods again and this time, they set their hearts on getting out, finally they saw a cave…………………………< /div>
It was humongous! The cave was supposedly made out of flowing red lava, and it should have been cooled, but the cave gave off some eerie red aura that frightened the twins. They entered cautiously, heeding the warnings from Hazel and Silver, the unicorns followed the princesses carefully. Laura held up her staff, as in the legends, the dragons were supposedly supposed to be frightened of the Roseleaf staff that Laura held. Lauralla held up her sword though she knew that the dragon could melt it with one fiery breath. Suddenly, the cave door shut, trapping the princesses and Unicorns in the cave. A shadow fell across them and they saw the great red dragon, dragon fear possessed them as they watch the great creature.
They held their breath, dreading the moment when they would be killed. Instead, the dragon bowed low before Laura and said, “Oh, great mistress, beholder of the Roseleaf Staff, you do not know the pleasure I have in meeting you.” The group was speechless, but Laura regained her calm quickly, “Do not waste my time you weakling, bring me to your leader, you do not want to suffer my displeasure!” The others gasped as Laura said those words boldly, the dragon bowed again, “As you wish Beholder of The Staff.”
He led them through the lava filled cave, as they traveled through it, they saw many dragons, not unlike their guide. Soon, they reached a sparkling chamber, upon closer inspection, the chamber was made out of sparkling, shimmering diamond. In the centre of the chamber was a great dragon, he was bigger than all the dragons they had met, they immediately knew he was their leader.
Laura stepped forwards boldly, “I, the beholder of the Roseleaf Staff command you to tell me your name!” The dragon said,”I did not know that the beholder was so tiny.” This reaction caused Laura to shout,” How dare you! I am just a descendant you know you big fat flea bitten brute!” The last remark was shouted out recklessly. The group of people thought that the dragon was going to kill them, but he merely chuckled,” You are very amusing Beholder Laura.” Laura and Lauralla gasped, “How do you know my name?” Laura exclaimed. “I know many things, but I, Fire Globe, the leader of dragons, requests to know why you are here.” Commanded the dragon.
