Chapter 1
Wrapped in a black hooded cloak, Alyx walks into the tavern. She is about 5' 6", not being very tall. She strides in, as she looks around to see if there is anyone she knows. Then, she quietly slips into a corner chair. Sitting in a chair with a comfortable slouch and an air of arrogance she silently watches the people in the room. As she shifts, a full view of her is shown. She wears brown fitted slacks tucked into her black knee high boots. Her green tunic is tucked under her belt which has her sheathed sword hanging at her hip. A long bow hangs across her back along with twenty arrows. Between her long lashes are two big green eyes. She pulls back her waist length black curly hair revealing her pointed ears. Her heredity and training makes her a worthy adversary to almost any man. Trained in every combat style since she had left five years ago makes it easy for her to improvise when needed.
She swallows the last of her ale and smiles. She would miss this place that was once her home. Standing, she looks around with a final sigh. She then says goodbye to the Stormy Night Tavern and Inn. She slips out the door and once again she doesn't know when she will be able to return. The time has come for her to present herself to the Human King.
After a four week hike to the Summer Castle, where the king was staying, Alyx had finally made it. The castle was gigantic and dwarfed all around it. It would look terrifying at night, with its sharp peaks and formidable architecture. Now she had to receive an audience with the King.
After asking for an audience for seven days, and being refused each time, Alyx grew impatient. She went marching toward the throne room, making her intentions to enter very clear to the guards. When she reached the throne room door there were ten guards blocking her pathway to the door. When she reached them she said to them, "Stand down Men. No need to block the door."
When they looked at her and said "Sorry Lady, the King is in an important council meeting and can't handle your grievance at the moment. So, just run along now and stay out of the way."
Alyx rolled her eyes and said in her most royal voice, "I am ordering you to stand down. I out rank you so you must obey." When they laughed at her she lost all patience left in her. "I am royalty, do you understand. What I have to say to the King could save all the people in this kingdom. So, one final time, Stand down, or you can fight me."
When they laughed once more she could take no more. She muttered under her breath, "Don't say I didn't warn you. “And with that she fought them. All ten. Against only her and her sword.
Mean while in the throne room they heard the clangs of swords, grunts of men in pain, and the sarcastic back talk of one woman. Finally the door came flying open, with Alyx steamily stomping in, to find the King with all nine of his Council Members sitting with their mouths open starring at this woman who had taken down all ten of their guards. Also, she had gotten away without a scratch. It was the most amazing thing they had ever seen.
Finally, after a long pause, the King cleared his throat and said, “Who are you my girl, and what do you want?" Smirking, Alyx bowed and curtly said, "Your Highness, I was coming to receive the audience that I have asked for seven days. When the guard didn't let me pass I told them to stand down or fight me and face defeat. When they still refused, but instead laughed at me I had no choice but to fight them. I have not injured them too seriously. I have taught them a lesson though. When Royalty tells you to stand down, stand down."
After a few chuckles from the council members, which were quickly silenced by the King, the King said, "You say that you are Royalty, but I have never heard of you nor seen you before today. Which family are you from? Can you give us proof that you are of Royal blood?"
Alyx looked him in the eye and said, "I come from two royal families. My mother is the Elvin Queen of Elderin Forest and my father's brother is the Dragon King. What proof would you like, sir?"
At her response the King chuckled. After composing himself he said, "My girl, there is no way that you could be of both lineages, unless you had two specific parents. Start giving proof by naming your parents."
"My parents are Draco and Leighla. I have recently spent nearly two and a half years with each, training in two specific arts. Those of fighting and shape shifting, my father's area of expertise, and the art of magic, my mother's area. Is there any thing else?"
After a nod of approval, the King said, "Yes. You must prove this by transforming into a dragon. Then perform some feat that can only be done by magic."
"As you wish your Highness." Alyx then slowly began the transformation into a dragon. Her dragon was different from any other one. The scales were black near the skin, then turned purple, and at the tips were silver. She was a flying, fire breathing drake, a smaller type of dragon. Hearing applause, Alyx quickly turn back. Then she turned to the Counselors and said, "Do any of you have a serious health condition that can't be healed by your doctors?"
At her question only one man stood up. He was the oldest of the bunch. He said, "Will near blindness work for your presentation?" At her quick nod he stepped down. She asked which eye was the problem, and he pointed to his left. She covered his eye with her hand, and then said, "Lying about it won't help. It will only anger me." With that she covered his right eye and healed it to a perfect vision.
When she finished she stepped back and asked what he thought. He said, "I can't believe it. I can see again. You are true to your story." He then took his seat. The King turned to her and said, "So, now that we know that you are who you say you are, who are you? Or, I should say, what is your name?"
"My name is Alyx. I was never given a last name for neither of my parents used one. Therefore I have given one to myself. I am Alyx Dragonheart."
The King nodded. Then with a quiet laugh he said, "I know your story for truth because only Draco's daughter would have the outright audacity to come barging in here." Then after a quick pause he continues, "Since you have so easily defeated my ten best Knights who were posting guard, I have one thing to ask you. Would you become one of my Knights, a faithful guard, and serve as a liaison between your two people and my people? This honor, if you please to call it, has never before been bestowed upon a woman. But, my firm belief is that deserve it more that any Knight in my service."
As he finished there was a murmur among the Counselors. They didn't understand this. It was ludicrous. Had their king had a spell cast upon him by this woman? Was he ill, giving him a hard time making decisions? Even if they did humor him, what would they call this woman, Sir Lady Dragonheart?
After the King had heard all of these quiet comments he laughed. He told them that he was of a right mind and that was exactly what they would call her, Sir Lady Alyx Dragonheart. He then turned to Alyx and said, "Do you agree with and except my offer Alyx Dragonheart?" When she gave a quick nod he continued, "Kneel before me." After she had done so he began the formal ceremony.
"Do you, Alyx Dragonheart, daughter of Leighla of the Elves and Draco of the Dragons, swear to uphold the laws and swear to protect me, your king, and this kingdom from any harm that may befall upon it, without violating any codes of honor among your family? Also do you swear to serve as a liaison between our peoples, when called upon to do so?"
"I do swear it."
"Then rise and be known as Sir Lady Alyx Dragonheart."
As she stood, Alyx smiled. This was easier and better than she and her father had ever expected. Then the King said to her, "Walk with me Sir Lady Dragonheart."
When they were in the hall Alyx said, "Your Highness call me Alyx, for it will be much easier." Then the King said, "Then you must start to call me Drake, Alyx, for it is my real name. Not Your Highness or Your Majesty or My Lord." At her shocked look he said, "Don't be surprised at my name. I am named after your father because he had saved my mother's life just before I was born. My father thought it would be for the best that I was named after my savior. Also, you were named after my father, because, in a sense, he was your savior. Actually he was your godfather. Your father wouldn't let him raise you though. So my father, King Alexander, sent you with two of his most faithful people, who had just inherited an inn, to raise you. That is how you ended up where you were."
With this one conversation a strong friendship was formed. In one year's passing Alyx decided it was time to leave. Now she had to win the Dragon King's trust. On her journey she had time to think and formulate a plan. With her plan's completion, she began to walk quicker, with her step more sure and positive. Her plan has simple. First she would win the love of the people, then the love of the King, her own uncle.
