Chapter Two
Two years later. Alyx had saved the lives of six dragons. Two infants, who had gotten stuck in an old human mine. One elderly dragonfly, one of the Council of Elders. The three others had been young fire dragons playing in a forest. They had gotten lost, and then stuck when they panicked. Then they began to blow off fire nervously, catching the forest on fire. Alyx had seen them and led them out of the forest.
It was then, after having the love of all the people that she got the King's. Someone had found out that she was related to the King, and with he not having an heir, said that Alyx should be the future ruler. At this the King's attention oriented on what Alyx had accomplished. Being impressed he brought her before him. When she came in the form of a drake, he didn't recognize her. He then asked her, "Who are you, what is your linage, and why don't I recognize you?"
With the last question she turned human and laughed. She then said, "Oh Great King of the Dragons, how do you not recognize your own niece, Alyx Dragonheart, Daughter of your brother Draco and his love, Leighla, Elvin Queen of Elderin Forest?"
"Why so it is. I didn't recognize you in your drake form. I hadn't expected to see you so soon. Actually I had half expected that young human king to fall in love with you and refuse to let you leave," He said with a laugh.
She laughed and smiled softly and shyly, "It would have been love and time wasted, for nothing could keep me off my path."
"How old are you now my dear?"
"I just turned one and twenty last week Uncle, why?"
"Most human girls your age that were not married by now would be called spinsters, would they not?"
"Yes they would so I guess it's a good thing I am not human then isn't it?" Alyx said with a sad laugh.
"Well, my girl, I suppose that you have heard that I wish to make you the Heir to the Dragon Throne by now, with all the gossiping that happens. Will you agree to rule the land of your Ancestors after I have passed away into the stars?"
With this Alyx was very shocked, for she hadn't heard any such rumors. Then she looked at her uncle with complete shock he said, "Oh so you haven't heard any such rumors? Well, no matter. Will you accept my offer?"
"I... I don't know. I mean I have to keep my word to Drake and my Father and Mother."
"Who is this Drake that deserves your allegiance?" the Kind said with an annoyed tone in his voice.
"Oh, well, Drake is the Human King. He was named after my father, after my father saved his mother's life, thus saving his. Also, I was named after his father, King Alexander, who was my godfather. I learned all this from Drake while I was at his palace. We became friends while I was there; he really is a good man. He asked me to serve as a liaison between His and Your people. He doesn't want the war, so will you please help me come to an agreement between you two, I would be willing to transfer any message." After she was done she bowed.
Then the King said, "Well, you tell him as soon as his people stop killing mine I will recall my soldiers. It is as simple as that. I don't know why you, a dragon, are taking his side on this."
When he finished Alyx looked up and said, "I am shocked with you Uncle. I am not taking sides; I am trying to prevent a war that could kill many. Also, I am not all Dragon. I am part Elf too."
"Well, why should you be helping a human, of all beings? For, that you are not."
"Human by blood I may not be, but I was raised by them. They loved me and I loved them!"
"How many really love you!" He shouted, "Really Alyx. How many?"
As she turned and walked towards the exit she said, "I will give Drake the message. But I have one for you. The humans didn't make the first attack. The dragons did. I witnessed it. Goodbye Uncle."
After considering what she had said he ran after her and said, "Alyx, waited!" As she turned to face him, he threw her a dagger. "This is the Sword of Dracconis. It can change size, so it looks like a dagger now. It is the sign of trust in the Dragon King to the liaison of the humans. Take it and return to the Human King. I am willing to make talk peace." With that said he turned and returned to his cave. As he left Alyx smiled. So, she finally gained the trust of her uncle. She left and headed home, to the palace.
