Chapter1

What is in the bushes?

Damp, muddy, and foggy. That was the invitation into the swampy jungle, Kilik was alone in this jungle. It has been four years since he has seen his friend Maxi, the out-going dandy pirate of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Kilik always remembered the fun times he had with Maxi, Xianghua was also there. Those were fun times, Kilik remembered those like it was yesterday. Now wasn't the time to think about the past, His instincts summoned him here. Despite the jungle being quite dangerous, the area was very lush and beautiful.

The jungle had towering trees, exotic fruits, cascading waterfalls and adorable monkeys. This jungle had it's downside of pitfalls also. Like fierce wild animals like tigers, panthers and snakes. Nature's peril's also shared it's part in the jungle, Stuff like quicksand, deep pits and rushing rivers. This wouldn't stop Kilik, he and his friends been in these perils a lot. He kept on going, he used Kali-Yuga as a walking stick.

"I know he is here..." Kilik told himself in his mind. He looked around. "This is creepy also. This reminds me of being in that jungle back with Maxi. Those were some crazy adventures. Maxi... where are you...?"

The jungle was thick with vines and creepers, heavily fogged also. Kilik's stomach felt achy, this hellish forest caused his pain. It was the natural fear, Kilik ignored his bellyache. His mind told him to be brave and keep on going. Also he could smell something in the distance, What could it be?

He took in a whiff of the scent, It was rather inviting. A delicious smell wafted from a small clearing in the jungle. He followed the scent and discovered a campsite, this baffled him.

"Who would be camping out here? Better yet, who would leave their food cooking like this?" He asked himself. He pushed away some vines and shrubs to get a better look, he took a better look at the camp.

No one, Not a soul. There was something though, a boar roasting on fire. That was the smell that drew him there.

"Who would leave their food like that?" He asked himself, the smell drove his stomach into a fit of gurgling and grumbling. He looked down at his stomach and held it, he then waltzed over to the campsite and helped himself to the boar. To his surprise, the boar was juicy and tender. He enjoyed every bite out of it and finished up to his fill. With a content stomach, Kilik leaned his head back on a rock and rested his hands on his stomach. He looked up at the sky,

"I hope no one minded that I helped myself..." He said. Kilik got up too his feet and dusted off his red, tattered coat. He picked up Kali-Yuga and proceeded on.

He climbed over a rotted log and batted away some vines. Kilik entered some dangerous terrain. Thick fog coated the jungle, various animals scurried around, Kilik held his rod close. He listened to all the jungle noises. Though trying to keep some high hopes up, he was tired. He let out a yawn and found some soft grass to lay on, He covered himself with his coat and fell asleep.

This night was inviting and cozy. Hoots from owls brewed as they hunted for rodents. The night faded into morning, Kilik's slumber was disturbed by the calls of jungle birds. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. Time to go looking for Maxi again!

"I might as well keep on going," Kilik said to himself, he kept on traveling at his pace until he reached a peculiar area. It was swampy, what was even more odd, there was a blanket of palm fronds and sticks placed on the ground, as if someone had left them there. Kilik shrugged, There wasn't many trees in this area. So how could the fronds and sticks be placed here, ever so carelessly? He didn't know what he was going to be in store for.

Kilik suddenly stepped in mud that was on the stick and leaf pile, He looked down.

"It's just mud, nothing too bad.." He told himself. As he tried to pull his leg out, he started to sink. The mud caked around his calves of his legs, he was now in quicksand.

"Someone has set this trap! Who would do a thing like this!?" He shouted in ire, however he remained calm and held Kali-Yuga above his head. Whoever set this trap was pretty smart and wily.

There was no low hanging vine or branch to grab on to, Kilik let himself sink up to his thighs. He remained calm, he knew that from his friends.

It was not much later when Kilik sank up to his chest, His arms were getting tired from being in the air. He brought them down to rest, He didn't care. As long he stayed calm, that was the one thing that helped. He heard slight rustling in the bushes, maybe it was a friend or just an animal. He hoped secretly that it was a friend or someone who would pull him out.

The mud seemed to tickle Kilik's neck, He was getting pretty nervous now. He then saw someone emerge out from the bushes,

"Well... what did I catch? Did I catch a certain golem named Astraroth?" Asked a rather familiar, yet loud voice. He pushed some bushes away, he looked down at Kilik.

Kilik looked up, he was moments away from being swallowed up by the sands of death. The mud dripped in a viscous fashion from his chin.

"Hey, help me!" Kilik pleaded.

The man with the familiar voice wore a white vest and pants, he had on a purple sash around his waist. He cocked an eye brow over at Kilik.

"Aww dammit!" The pirate swore, "I was tryin' to trap a golem!"

"Just help me out!" Kilik yelled in fervor seeing as he was moments away from death.

The pirate grumbled and tossed out a vine, Kilik grabbed a secure hold. The pirate pulled Kilik free from the quicksand, Kilik laughed. He looked up at his rescuer and smiled. He noticed that face, and he didn't care if he was mud covered.

"Maxi!!" crowed a happy Kilik, Maxi cocked an eye brow again and looked at the boy.

"That's my name! The pirate of the Ryukyu Kingdom!" He grinned.

Kilik frowned, his mouth worked for a few moments, and blinked. "Maxi..?" He queried the pirate.

"Hmm..?" Maxi asked as he looked at Kilik, "What do ya want, boy? Why are ya callin 'my name for? I rescued ya, go home now."

Kilik's eyes grew wide, "It's me Kilik! Don't you remember?" He was getting upset in the fact that Maxi didn't know who he was.

Maxi crossed his arms over his bare chest. "Nope, I don't remember any 'Kilik'. How do ya know my name?" the pirate asked.

Kilik face faulted. "But..."

Maxi put his hand in front of Kilik's face. "Spare the sob story and go get clean!"

Kilik found a small wading lake and enjoyed a refreshing bath, he shivered as he sank down to get clean. Maxi sat at the edge of the lake and gazed over at him having fun, the pirate shook his head and sighed. He swam over to Maxi and tugged at his vest tails, Maxi stared down at Kilik, meeting him eye to eye.

"What do you want, boy?" Maxi asked as he looked down at Kilik.

"Maxi..." Kilik started to say but trailed off, "Thanks for saving me..." he finished.

Maxi shrugged. "Whatever, kid."

After a refreshing bath, Kilik and Maxi sat back at camp. The pirate decided to invite the boy to his camp, both didn't say a word for a long time. Both were quite tired, It was only mid noon. A nap would suit them for now, Maxi took off his vest and leaned back on a tree. He made himself comfortable and glanced at Kilik, the boy in question took off his red coat and laid on his belly, he also munched on a mango.

"It's been four years!" Kilik exclaimed, Maxi shook his head. How did Kilik know his name? He was growing tired and aggravated by this.

"Listen, kiddo," Maxi began, "You claim to know my name. I ain't got a clue who in the hell you are! Now.. I am gonna take a nap, don't get in any quicksand or have some animal nip your ass." He relaxed himself again and closed his eyes, Kilik sighed.

"Maxi..." He whispered, Kilik laid his head down on his folded arms and closed his eyes. Maybe later they could sort this mess out, how could of Maxi have forgotten Kilik?

"Maxi.." He again whispered as he dozed off.
