Pirate Blues

Kilik awoke from his nap, and let out a fairly long jaw cracking yawn. Then grabbed his red tattered coat and threw it over his shoulders. Fatigue was still chastising him at this early hour, and he was still a bit groggy and was trying clear the mental cobwebs that still inhabited him. The sun peeked its rays through the trees, making a wondrous light show. The young man gave a stretch towards the sky and glanced at the dozing pirate, Maxi was still fast asleep. His snores could wake the very dead, not that he minded the noise..

"That's Maxi..." Kilik chuckled to himself, hunger pangs broke his simple trance of tranquility. Kilik sighed and then gathered some exotic fruits and began to devour his fill. After a fulfilling fruity snack and a nap, Kilik felt refreshed. Being in quicksand for several minutes wore him out, the surrounding jungle noises raised a lilting a symphony of hoots and chirps. To him, it was very soothing and calming. He closed his eyes and rested in his private bliss to the sound.

It was no later when the jungle symphony was broken by a loud yawn,

"Hua-ah, What a nap!" mused a familiar voice.

Kilik rolled his eyes and set his sights on the yawning pirate.

"Sleep well!? Your snoring could rouse the dead!" Scolded Kilik. Maxi gave a belly laugh. He put on his vest and got to his feet feeling quite refreshed after a fitful slumber.

"Still here, kid?" He asked stretching. "Perhaps we should get somethin' to eat. Judgin' by the sounds comin' from your gut, those fruits ain't gonna fill ya up!" The pirate pointed out.

Kilik hiccuped from Maxi's insightful comment, somehow he knew he gobbled down some jungle fruits. His cheeks turned red from this discovery. He peered up at the sun that was still filtering through the trees. The pirate was busily packing up the things from camp.

"I see you ate that boar I had set. I caught that for my dinner! And that quicksand... that was a trap for a golem named Astraroth!" Maxi rambled. Kilik gave an annoyed eye roll and picked up Kali-Yuga, out of habit he rubbed the back of his head. "That was the second time you have saved me from the sands of death," Kilik thanked Maxi again.

The pirate lifted his head up and crossed his arms across his chest, "Second time?!" The pirate laughed, "This is only the first time I pulled ya out!"

Kilik frowned as he shook his head, he certainly didn't wish to explain this to Maxi. He slowly tilted his head back, Kilik could've sworn he felt a rain drop perhaps a few more. To his surprise, it began to rain!

"Look lively, boy!" Maxi yelled out to Kilik as if he was speaking to him like he was one of his crew members, "It be a- rainin'!"

Kilik didn't mind the rain, it was soothing and felt nice and pleasant to him. The water droplets dripped off the tendrils of his hair. Maxi strode over to where Kilik stood and waved his hand in front of Kilik's face.

"Hey,what do you think you are doin'!? Get movin' boy!" The dandy barked. Kilik snapped back to reality. He glanced over at Maxi. "Sorry Maxi!" A soggy Kilik called out, the irate pirate scoffed and shook his head.

"Get your stick usein' ass movin'! I hate the rain!" Maxi gruffly yelled out, Kilik walked over to Maxi and gave out a formal chuckle to his friend. "Aww, it's just rain! It won't hurt you Maxi." Kilik joked, Maxi looked rather unimpressed by Kilik's antics. He started to walk away from the boy, Kilik ran after him.

The two arrived at a small village, the rain was dying down also. Chickens scattered clucking and pecking across the dirt road, cats slinked around barrels and the streets, chasing mice or seeking shelter from the rain. Children rested in the rain and laughed merrily as rain pelted their heads, there was also a quaint hut standing there. Regardless the rain, the people enjoyed their work or whatever they were doing.

"I hate rain..." muttered a disgruntled Maxi, He had a palm leaf acting as a makeshift umbrella hovering above his drenched head. Kilik shook his rain soaked hair, getting the droplets on Maxi. Maxi snarled at Kilik's irritating hijinks, then on a sudden turn he smirked.

"Lighten up, will you?"

Maxi gave a snort of disgust towards Kilik. To his belief, Kilik was beginning to sound like the great dandy pirate himself.

"Just was, kiddo..." Maxi started to say, "I'm gonna treat ya to some ale maybe then, you might get off my case!" He laughed after he said this.

"Maxi...." Kilik began in a worried tone. Maxi looked at him, "Save it, kiddo... C'mon, I know where we are goin'. Thanks to these folks, there is a town near here. With a pub!"

Both left the small village and proceeded into a small forest. Kilik munched on a ripe mango he got from the village, he trailed behind the pirate.

"I can't wait until I get a cushy bed, Much better then the ground!" Maxi exclaimed as he outstretched his arms.

Kilik swallowed some of his mango, he spit the pit out on the ground. "I like looking at the stars... Remember when you, Xianghua and I used to star gaze? You used to make jokes and crack us up about those star clusters." Kilik told Maxi, he thought that would make him remember.

Maxi stopped in his tracks, He turned to face the boy with the rod. "Listen Kilik..." he began in a firm tone, He made sure he had direct eye contact with Kilik. "I don't know ya, I don't remember any of this. All I remember is me, my crew and their deaths! Stop talkin' about these damn memories!"

Kilik frowned in sight confusion at this revelation. Before he could say anything else, Maxi was steps ahead of the boy. Kilik just shook his head and any doubts with it then followed Maxi. Soon, both the pirate and rod-wielder arrived at the small town. There was even a small dock for trade ships, A long and hearty grin rose across Maxi's face.

"My boys an' I use to go here for ale and grub. Speaking of grub..."

The pirate led Kilik to a local pub, the dandy took a seat and ordered a round of meat, bread, and ale for himself. As soon as the food hit the table, Maxi gorged on the food. Kilik watched in utter disbelief as Maxi wolfed down the food. It seemed very familiar to him, his stomach grumbled while watching Maxi eat. He reached out for a piece of bread and ate it. He gave a small chuckle at his friend.

"Just like old times," Kilik sighed, Maxi didn't even pay him any mind. He was too busy inhaling his food. This all ceased when a loud belch raged through the pub, "Woo!" Maxi bellowed in a satisfied tone. He leaned back and gave his stomach a pat, "That was good eatin'!"

Kilik laughed, This did indeed seem like the old times gone. He kept his mouth shut. Maxi stretched languidly and was then heading up to the rooms upstairs.

"I'm going to bed!" As the pirate arrived up to the bed room, the pirate disrobed to his waist and removed his worn footwear. He flopped down on the bed heavily and yawned widely. Kilik arrived second in Maxi's room and sat on the bed, he slipped off his red coat and folded it neatly on the bed. He also kicked off his boots and set his gaze onto Maxi. The said pirate was staring vacantly at the wall. He was probably trying to relieve his stress of Kilik's constant prodding of these so-called 'memories'.

"Nice night, 'eh Maxi?" Kilik asked trying to start a friendly conversation.

"............" Was his only warranted response. Kilik scooted over and sat on Maxi's bed, the pirate gave an annoyed sigh.

"Get some sleep..." Maxi sighed in a tired voice that held a hint of irritation. He rolled over onto his side.

Kilik leaned in closer. "Maxi, don't you remember?" He asked in a gentle probing tone. Maxi was starting to get annoyed once again that day. He suddenly grabbed Kilik by his sapphire talisman. Kilik gasped as his eyes grew wide at Maxi's reaction; the pirate gave a stern and strict look.

"Look kid, I don't remember ya.. Just get some damn sleep!" Maxi growled. Kilik couldn't find any adequate words, he just stared into Maxi's angrily flashing eyes. Both said nothing for a few minutes, Maxi roughly let go of Kilik in apparent disgust.

"Good night..." Maxi told Kilik, The irritable pirate leaned over to a candle and snuffed it. He covered himself up with the slightly threadbare blankets and drifted off to sleep. Kilik flopped down onto his own bed, he sighed and laced his fingers behind his head. "G'night..." He whispered. He closed his eyes and slowly fell into a not so fitful slumber.
