Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Reunited Lovers ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Alex didn’t have time to turn or defend himself. He had been so focused on Brittany that he hadn’t felt the enormous source of energy coming up behind him. Alex’s body was already covered in all the wounds Scion had inflicted upon him, most of which had yet to heal. It was then that a large fist ripped through Alex’s chest causing Alex to scream in pain.
“Alex!” Brittany screamed as she felt a tingling sensation course through her body.
I will always love you Brittany, Alex thought as he closed his eyes.
“Alex!” Brittany yelled again as she disappeared in a flash of light.

The memories of what happened followed Brittany back to the human realm. She couldn’t stop the flow of tears that cascaded down her face. She rocked slowly back and forth as the images of Alex’s death flashed before her eyes. “Alex...Alex, why did this happen? Please God, let him be okay.”
Brittany’s sobs were interrupted by the sound of a door opening and closing. “Brittany honey, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” A short lady around Brittany’s height asked as she sat next to Brittany on her bed. She was very beautiful with her shoulder length brown hair and features that almost identical to Brittany’s.
“It’s Alex...,” Brittany managed to get out in between sobs. She turned to look at the woman with tear filled eyes. “He’s dead mom!”
“Who’s dead? Was Alex a friend of yours?” her mom asked softly. Brittany’s head shot up and stared at her mom in shock.
How could she forget my boyfriend? The one who’s been my boyfriend for the past three years! Brittany was about to ask her mom this when her mind recalled the time she was last in the human realm so long ago. Wait, I wasn’t in my room. I was at Alex’s house, we were outside. What happened? Mom doesn’t remember Alex, but we were just at his house. If we were there, why aren’t we there now?
“Mom, don’t you remember Alex?” Brittany asked. Her tears slowing down as she tried to figure out what was going on.
“No dear, I’m sorry. Did you bring him over here before?” Her mom asked softly. Brittany looked around the interior of her room. The flowers Alex had bought her were gone and so was the picture of them by her bed. The picture was replaced with one of her and her ex-boyfriend hugging.
It’s as if he never existed.
Brittany’s eyes widened and she quickly moved her hand up to her neck. She was no longer wearing Alex’s trench coat, she was instead wearing a pink halter top and a white skirt. Brittany felt a calming sensation sweep over her as she felt the cool touch of the metal necklace between her fingers. Alex’s necklace, we’re still connected. No matter where I am.
Suddenly Brittany had a flashback of her and Alex talking the night after he gave her the necklace.
* * * * * * * *
“Whenever you go back to the human realm, if you want to go back, things will be different. A spell was placed on your realm so that I could reside there during my banishment. When I left and returned to this realm the spell was broken and everything has returned to how it should be if I wasn’t there to affect things. When you return their your memories of me and of this realm will be erased as well. That is, if you ever take off that necklace. As long as you have it on we always be connected. I wouldn’t blame you if you took it off though. Erase any memories of this wretched realm so that you could start over and not have these nightmares plague you.”
“In other words you mean you wouldn’t mind if I erased all my memories of you and forgot all about you?” Brittany teased knowing how he would react.
Alex nodded slowly. “If you were happy then I wouldn’t mind. I know it is a lot to ask of you to remain here, especially since you belong in the human realm.”
Brittany giggled as she sat on his lap and kissed him. “I’d never forget you and I never will. You’ll always be a part of my life. I love you too much to forget about you, and I never want to leave your side. This is where I belong. Right here in your arms, now and forever.”
“I love you too and I always will.”
* * * * * * * *
Those were the last words he said before he died. That thought caused more tears to fall from her eyes. Her mom hugged her tightly. Noticing the necklace that Brittany was holding on to she commented.
“Did Alex give that to you?”
Brittany nodded slowly before speaking. “Mom, could I have some time alone? There’s a lot I need to think about right now.”
Her mom nodded and stood up. “Josh wanted to come over tonight. Do you want me to tell him no to? He wanted to ask you about prom and your anniversary.”
Josh was my boyfriend before Alex. I guess if I had never met Alex I would still be going out with him. Still, Alex is the only one who could have my heart. There’s no way I could ever love Josh like I did Alex. Things are going to have change, I could never betray Alex with someone else.
“No, I’ll talk to him later.”
“Okay,” her mom said as she turned to leave. She stopped at the door and turned to look at her. “I really wish I could’ve met this Alex. He must’ve been a very wonderful and loving person to have touched your heart as he has.”
A tear fell from Brittany’s eyes as she nodded. “He was.”
“I know, why else would you have been in love with him.”
These words made Brittany stop cold as her mor left. Is it really that obvious? Alex, were we never meant to be? When were together everyone tried to pull us apart, but that only made us stronger. I will be strong for you. I know you would want me to be happy, to continue living my life. I can’t promise you that I’ll be happy, but I will continue living, living for you.
Brittany suddenly felt a small pulse coming from her necklace. Brittany grasped it firmly and looked at it. It was still shining brightly, signifying her and Alex’s bond.
“You’re out there somewhere, aren’t you? Even now you’re trying to find your way to me. All I have to do is wait for you.”
* * * * * * * *
Every one of Brittany’s friends could tell something was different about her. They couldn’t remember Alex so they couldn’t understand the sadness that Brittany kept inside of her. Brittany spent a lot of time at her and Alex’s favorite spots to be together when they were in the human realm. One of their favorite spots was a garden with a stone seat and a beautiful stone water fountain. Brittany sat beneath the stone angel that squirt out water and thought of all the times they had spent together. None of her friends could understand why she broke up with Josh. They couldn’t understand why she had broken up with the most popular guy in school for no reason. For the remainder of her first month back in the human realm, Brittany kept to herself. Her heart had been broken when she was torn from the demon realm. For a part of her heart still resided with Alex.
How can you survive with only half a heart? Brittany thought as she wrote in her dairy. Ever since she had returned to the human realm she had been writing down all that had happened in her adventures in the demon realm. She had tried several time unsuccessfully to cast magic, each time ending in failure. Even though Brittany was good at hiding her pain, and even though she had started to hang out with her friends again, Brittany still couldn’t shake Alex from her mind. Every night when she would go to sleep she wake to find her face soaked with tears.
At night is the one time I can’t hide my pain. My heart needs him, I need him. Brittany thought as she got up to get dressed to school.
More time passed and soon Brittany began to get back into the rhythm of the human realm. School would soon be ending and she would be graduating this year. The more time that passed the less and less Brittany’s hopes of seeing Alex again became. Even though her heart wanted nothing more than to see him again, but her mind knew that after all this time the chances of seeing him again were slim.
Alex, I can’t believe you’re really gone. I’m sorry, I hope that one day I can see you again Alex. I love you.
Brittany’s heart still wanted Alex to be alive. She couldn’t fully admit to herself that Alex was gone, but she knew deep down that if Alex was alive he would’ve come back to her by now. It had been six months since she had returned from the demon realm. That would have been eons in the demon realm and surely the war would’ve been over by then. In a few days she was going to graduate. What should have been the happiest day of her life was a day full of sadness.
The day of her graduation it took all Brittany had to keep from crying. The place next to her was empty and she knew in her heart that, that’s where Alex would’ve been if he had remained in the human realm. As the events began Brittany glanced around the crowd seeing her parents and brothers in the front row smiling at her. She was so wrapped up in her own thoughts that she didn’t notice the stranger in the back of the room staring at her intently. The ceremony proceeded without incident. It wasn’t until Brittany went up to get her diploma and smile at the crowd that her heart stopped. She couldn’t see anyone’s faces in the darkness of the auditorium, but what she did see made her blood run cold. There in the darkness one set of eyes set themselves apart from everyone else. These eyes seemed to take in only Brittany, following her every movement. For a minute Brittany forgot what she was doing as she gazed into those eyes. The eyes that met her gaze were a mixture of passion, joy, pain, and turmoil. Brittany felt completely naked before their gaze as they seemed to sweep over her entire being. Brittany couldn’t break their gaze as she her mind raced with questions. The first thought that came to her mind shocked the hell out of her. Demonic blue eyes? Those eyes remind me of Alex, but it can’t be him. I don’t feel anything. All I feel is that same void ever since I’ve returned to this realm. Also if it was him I should be able to hear his thoughts. Calm down girl, don’t get your hopes up. He’s just got some really deep eyes that happen to look like Alex’s that’s all.
Despite Brittany’s rationalization of the situation, she couldn’t help but continue to look at the man as she accepted her diploma. Who is he and why can’t I quit looking at him? I wish I could see his face. This man can’t be Alex, there’s no way. But if that’s true...why does my heart feel like it does?
Brittany stared at the man throughout the entire ceremony. He too never took his eyes off of her. The moment the ceremony was over and the lights came on Brittany stood to look at him. Her vision was blocked however by the form of a muscular youth with tan skin, brown eyes, and black hair. Before she could resist the guy leaned over and pressed his lips hard against hers. “So, do you want to go to the party over at my place tonight?”
“Josh get the Hell away from me. I told you I don’t want to be with you anymore” Brittany said as she shoved him away from her. Brittany managed to see past him just in time to catch the auditorium doors shutting behind a man wearing all black with flowing white hair. Alex! Oh no, if it is him, and if he saw Josh. Dammit!
Josh grabbed onto Brittany’s wrist as she tried to push past him. “Hey, why in the hell don’t you want to be with me anymore? Just cause you got knocked up by some mystery man doesn’t mean shit. What about us?”
“Josh there never was a us. My heart belongs to someone else. It could never belong to you. Now please let go you’re hurting me,” Brittany said trying to tug free.
“No, not until you tell me why?” Josh said pulling harder on her wrist. Brittany yelled as he applied more pressure and brought her to the back of the auditorium behind a thick curtain where no one could see them. Josh pressed Brittany up against the wall and glared at her. “Who is this mystery guy of yours? The one that stole you away from me.”
“It’s none of your business. Now let me go!” Brittany said raising her voice but knowing that no one could hear her above all the commotion on the other side of the curtain.
“Yes it is. You were mine once and something happened. I want to know who in the hell stole you away from me. You love me and you know it.”
“I don’t love you!” Brittany yelled. Tears dripped from her eyes as she fought the pain she had kept buried within her for so long. “The only person I have ever loved was Alex.”
“So is Alex the one who took your virginity and made you into a slut?” Josh yelled. Brittany closed her eyes as he twisted her wrists forcibly making her cringe in pain. All of a sudden the pain was gone and she felt Josh being pulled away from her.
Brittany opened her eyes to see white hair cascading over a black shirt and Josh being pinned to the wall by a very powerful looking arm. Josh struggled to break the man’s hold on him, but try as he might he couldn’t budge his arm. The man grabbed Josh and lifted him into the air by the collar of his shirt.
“I suggest that unless you want to wind up in the hospital, you never touch a girl like that again,” the man said.
Brittany’s heart fluttered as she recognized the voice of the man. I would recognize that voice anywhere. Alex, it’s really you. The mix of emotions Brittany was running through was indescribable as she watched Josh shake his head quickly before Alex lowered him to the ground.
“Get out of my sight,” Alex declared sending Josh running off. Alex didn’t turn to face Brittany, instead he stared at the wall as he spoke. “Are you okay?”
“Alex...is it really you?” Brittany asked softly afraid her heart couldn’t take it if what she saw before her was nothing more than a dream.
“Yeah, it’s me.”
“Alex!” Brittany yelled as she ran towards him and hugged his back tightly, tears falling from her eyes. “I thought you were dead. I can’t believe it’s really you.”
Alex tensed at Brittany’s touch and she soon realized something was wrong. Brittany slowly released him and stared at him with questioning eyes. It then hit her that she couldn’t sense anything Alex was feeling or hear his thoughts. “Alex, what’s wrong?”
“I used a spell to shield my thoughts and emotions from you,” Alex stated.
“Why would you do that?”
“Because when I realized what had happened with the time difference between the two realms I was afraid....”
“What time difference? What were you afraid of?”
“When I told you our connection would last even in this realm, it was even more powerful than I had imagined. When we separated and you returned to your realm, because you were my mate and because our bond was so strong, it altered the time difference between the two realm. Six months in the demon realm is now six months in the human realm. When I found that out, I was afraid that you might have moved on. That you might have removed your necklace and forgotten me. If I had returned and you heard my thoughts or felt my emotions while trying to forget me, I just couldn’t risk that. Then when I saw him kiss you.”
“I didn’t want him to. Not a day has passed that I haven’t thought about you. Do you know how hard its been? I thought you were dead Alex! But still I haven’t taken off your necklace. It’s right here,” Brittany protested taking the necklace out and holding it in her hand. Alex’s back was still to her and her tears of happiness soon stopped replaced by pain and anger.
“How can you be so cruel? Afer all I’ve been though. Wishing that I could see you again, just to know that you were okay. I love you Alex, I’ve never stopped loving you. Now that you’ve returned you won’t even look at me. Am I really that despicable?”
At those words Alex turned around to face her. To Brittany’s shock tears fell from Alex’s eyes as he looked at her. “You are the farthest thing from that. The reason I couldn’t look at you wasn’t because of hate. It was because it was your image that haunted my dreams at night. It was your image who through these six months of Hell I have been fighting for. It was your image that I strove to find. It is because that now that you’re before me I can’t believe you are real.”
Brittany leaned forward and kissed Alex on the lips. Alex wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer to him deepening the kiss. The two lovers seemed frozen in place as the tension, the fear, the pain, and the suffering of the last six months released itself from them in one long passionate kiss. As Alex released her he noticed something different. He notice a bulge beneath her graduation gown. He looked at her with question and she smiled softly at him. She wrapped her arms around his neck and looked at him in the eyes.
“Alex, there’s something I need to tell you,” she said softly. “I’m pregnant.”
Alex’s eyes met hers as fear and worry crept into them. She quickly added. “I’m six months pregnant. As I told Josh, you’re the only person I could ever love. Still, there’s another thing that might be wrong.”
Alex’s smile at the fact that he would be a father soon faltered as he began to understand the meaning behind her words. Six months ago she was with me, but also before she left Zanatos raped her. Which means this child...it could be Zanatos’s.
Alex retained his composure, but Brittany could tell that her words disturbed him greatly. Still he smiled and kissed her gently as he wrapped his arms around her. “I love you Brittany, and now we can finally be together again. No matter what, I will always love you.”
“I love you too Alex,” Brittany said leaning her head against his chest and listening to his heartbeat. I wish we could be like this forever. Just us two locked in each other’s arms for all eternity.
The two lover’s held each other afraid that if they let go they might lose the other forever. After all they had been through, all the trials they had faced, their love had seen them through. Though their destiny was uncertain, one thing was assured. Their love would never fail them.
Author's Note: Just a little filler, decided to leave the first one with the cliff hanger ending and start this one off with them being reunited.
“Alex!” Brittany screamed as she felt a tingling sensation course through her body.
I will always love you Brittany, Alex thought as he closed his eyes.
“Alex!” Brittany yelled again as she disappeared in a flash of light.
