Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Lost Love ( Chapter 2 )

“Alex, I’m pregnant,” Brittany said smiling at him.
On that day Alex believed life couldn’t get any better. He had the love of his life back in his arms and found out he was soon to be a father. The evil that had consumed his lands had been vanquished by his own hands. The past that had haunted him for so long had been rectified. He was free, his land was free, and most of all...he was in love. He was no longer the Lord of the demon realm even though those of the realm eagerly wanted him to be. When he proposed with the question of why he rejected the title he had once so eagerly sought he simply told them.
“There is no need for a Lord. This realm can prosper fine without someone ruling over them. No one individual should have enough power to command life and death. Right now I am content with the life I have. I am to be a father soon, I have no need for a title of Lord.”
At that time Alex truly believed that paradise was within his grasp. With Brittany’s return to the demon realm and with her news of her pregnancy Alex was filled with eternal joy. Nothing could surpass the feeling of being a father. When you have the love of your life by your side paradise doesn’t seem that far away. Alex was as close to Heaven as possible.

Alex laid in bed next to Brittany holding her close to his chest. Her head was nestled in his shoulder as she smiled up at him. Both of them had been inseparable since Alex had returned with her from the human realm. Those around them couldn’t help but smile and giggle as they watched the two lover’s. Alex kissed Brittany softly on her forehead.
“You’re beautiful,” Alex said softly.
Brittany’s smile softened as she craned her neck and kissed Alex on the lips. “You’re wonderful. Everything is perfect. This must be what Heaven feels like.”
“Having you beside me right now, no this isn’t Heaven. Heaven’s no where this good.”
“It won’t be too much longer till we’ll be parents,” Brittany said rubbing her large belly. “It’s sort of weird imagining having a child. I mean, I’m only eighteen.”
“Yeah, it’s a little bit different for me though. I’ve lived eons, but never once had I ever imagined myself as a father.”
“That’s funny. Remember when we were in the human realm you used to tell me how much you wanted a daughter. We used to talk about getting married, and we used to talk about if we had kids.”
“Heh, true, but that was different. I didn’t actually expect that we’d ever you know,” Alex said blushing as the thoughts came to his mind.
Brittany covered her face with a pillow to suppress her laughter. When she took it away she was smiling brightly at him. “You mean you never thought we would have sex?”
Alex chuckled softly and kissed her. “Well I thought about it plenty enough, but I never actually imagined you’d stay with someone like me. Besides, I wasn’t exactly planning on bringing you to the demon realm at the time. Yet after all that’s happened, I couldn’t imagine anyone else I’d rather be with. You’re the love of my life. No one could ever replace you.”
“Something tells me that for a demon, you’re going to make an awesome father,” Brittany said kissing him.

“And you my dear, will make a great mother,” Alex replied with a chuckle as he pulled the covers over them.

On the day that Brittany’s water broke Alex had Simera along with other clerics there to help deliver the baby. Both Alex and Aurora were right by Brittany’s side as the delivery commenced. As Brittany’s screams of pain filled the room later into the delivery Aurora could see how pale Alex was becoming.
Alex was holding onto Brittany’s hand as she clutched his hand tightly. She squeezed his hand with every contraction causing Alex to pale even more. Aurora walked up beside him and gently placed her hand on his shoulder.
“Are you okay? You look worse than she does,” Aurora whispered.
“Is this normal? Is she okay? I mean all that blood, are you sure it’s okay?” Alex replied softly, never once taking his eyes off of Brittany. Aurora looked at her then back at Alex before replying.
“Yes, this is normal. She’ll be fine Alex,” Aurora told him. Alex could sense the hesitation in her voice, and he could tell by the faces of Simera and the other clerics that there was something they weren’t telling him.
“What is it? Aurora, what is it? What aren’t you telling me?” Alex demanded. Aurora glanced at Simera who nodded slowly.
“Alex, let’s step outside for a second. I need to talk to you,” Aurora said softly.
“No, I’m not leaving her side. She needs me. What ever you need to tell me you can tell me here,” Alex said firmly glaring at Aurora. Brittany’s screams broke Alex’s glare as he turned and kneeled beside her. He gently stroked her hair and whispered to her. “It’s okay, I’m here. You’re doing fine.”
Alex looked back at Aurora as Brittany gripped his hand harder. Her face was covered in sweat as she looked over at him. “Alex...”
“Shh, don’t talk. You’re doing great Just push,” Alex said softly turning his gaze back to her. He grabbed a washcloth and wiped the sweat off her forehead. “Just take deep breaths, everything will be okay.”
Brittany’s eyes fluttered as she weakly smiled at him. “It’s okay, go with her.”
“No, I’m not about to leave you here,” Alex protested. He had been in there ever since her water had broke. Most of her contractions were through and she was slipping in and out of consciousness. Alex insisted that he should stay, but finally he was talked into taking a small breather. To clear his head. Both Simera and Aurora agreed that it would be best seeing how pale he was at the sight of Brittany’s frail and blood soaked form.
“Don’t worry she’ll be fine. I’ll send in Kiba if that’s okay. You’ll only be gone a second. Get some fresh air. The rest of this should be the easy part for her,” Aurora assured him. Alex numbly nodded as he turned and glanced back at Brittany one more time. He then looked at Simera.
“If anything happens....”
“She’ll be fine. I won’t let anything happen to her,” Simera assured him. Alex nodded before stepping out. He passed Kiba one the way out. Kiba smiled brightly at him and patted him on the shoulder.
“How’s she doing lad?”
“I think she’s doing good. There’s a lot of blood and she’s in a lot of pain.”
“That’s only natural lad. Aurora said for me to be with her while you get some fresh air. Do you want me to go on in?”
“Yeah, go on. I’ll only be gone for a second. She wanted to talk to me about something.”
“Okay then. If you see Shadow give him a report on what’s going on. He’s just as excited about the lass’s pregnancy as you were.”
Alex couldn’t join in with Kiba’s soft laughter. His mind was still too focused on Brittany. Alex reluctantly walked outside onto one of his castle’s balconies. He hated to admit that the fresh air did feel good, but still he felt like he should be with his mate. The land was blanketed in snow, due to the changing of seasons. The air was crisp and cool, but despite the already cool temperatures outside, Alex felt a chill course through his spine that wasn’t from the cold. Alex heard footsteps behind him and without even looking back at who it was he asked in a low voice.
“What is it?”
Aurora stopped short of Alex taken back by his tone of voice. When Aurora didn’t answer Alex’s question he asked it again. This time a little louder.
“What is it? What is so important that you had to drag me away from my mate when she needs me the most?”

Aurora hesitated once again to answer, but seeing Alex’s growing irritation she decided it would be best to go ahead and tell him the truth. “It’s about her pregnancy.”
“I figured that much. Now tell me what it is!” Alex demanded turning to face her.
“Even though she’s suffered through some of the worst part she’s still not out of the woods yet. There’s still things that can go wrong.”
“I know this. I know of the risks, but Brittany’s a strong girl. She will be fine. You said so yourself that there was nothing to worry about.” Aurora nodded slowly and Alex realized that there was more to what she was telling him. “That is, unless there’s something you’re not telling me Aurora.”
“I too thought that Brittany would do would just fine with the pregnancy. It wasn’t until Shadow brought up something that I began to worry.”
“Worry about what?”
“The fact is, Brittany is the first human to ever be pregnant with a demonic child. We don’t know what to expect with this. For all we know her body might not be strong enough to handle the birth. There could be some complications that we might not know about.”
“So what exactly are you trying to tell me Aurora? Are you trying to tell me that there’s a good chance Brittany could die from this?”
“N-no, I don’t think she will die. Like you said, she is a very strong willed person. Since she’s had a demonic aura in her before her body should be used to that, and after carrying around the child for nine months there’s a very slim risk that anything should happen. I was just preparing you in case anything should. Even then Brittany should pull through just fine.”
“There’s something else. What is it?” Alex asked sensing Aurora’s fear. “What is it Aurora? If it concerns the safety of Brittany or my child I suggest you tell me now!”
“Yes, of course,” Aurora replied hanging her head softly. “Another thing that might cause complications, is if the child really is yours.”
Alex bit his lip at these words. Up until now he had been trying to believe that the child would be his no matter what. Aurora’s words had reminded him that the child might in fact be Zanatos’s. Alex nodded slowly and turned away from her, looking back towards the plains before him.
“You’re saying that if the child is mine, then that could cause unknown effects. While a human giving birth to a demon is dangerous, a human giving birth to whatever the hell I am could be fatal.”
“Alex...I....”
Alex turned and faced her. He forced a weak smile onto his lips to show that he wasn’t mad with her. “It’s okay, I understand. Besides I needed to know. Now more than ever, I need to get back to Brittany. She needs me, and I need to be by her side.”
“Yes of course,” Aurora said stepping aside. Before Alex could take a step he felt his heart skip a beat. Alex’s eyes widened as he looked in the direction of where Brittany was. His body knew what happened before his mind could comprehend it. It wasn’t until he heard Shadow’s voice calling for him that his mind caught up with his emotions.
“Alex! Alex!” Shadow yelled racing towards them. Aurora looked at Alex, her face paling and her hand covered her mouth as she realized what must be happening.
Alex shook his head slowly before taking a few unsteady steps forward. Once Shadow had gotten close enough Alex looked at him. “No...NO!”
Alex raced past Shadow, shoving him aside as he ran towards Brittany’s room. Aurora was shaking her head slowly as Shadow walked over to her and wrapped her in his arms. “Shadow, she isn’t...she can’t be.”
Shadow kissed the top of Aurora’s forehead as tears fell from his eyes. Aurora felt the wet tears fall onto her forehead instantly confirming her worst fears. “No, it can’t be. What happened, she was just fine when we left?”
“I don’t know, all I know is that Kiba ran out and told me to find Alex,” Shadow replied softly.
“This is awful!” Aurora sobbed burying her face in Kiba’s chest. “Why did this have to happen? Everything was perfect, everyone was happy! It can’t be true. She was just there, Alex was just....”
Aurora froze as a new thought entered her head. Alex...oh no. What is he going to do now?

Author's Note: Okay, so what do you think? Cut me some slack, like I said, I was going to try something new by adding in more emotions to this one. Also, I don't exactly have any idea what all I'm doing this time around. I'm pretty much doing what I did last time. I have a few major key plots that I want to have in the story, and the rest I'm just writing as I go along. Still, reviews are appreciated.
