Kiba led them through the main doors of the castle, up the winding stairs, and towards the main library. Once there, Kiba motioned to the chairs in front of a large desk. Kiba waited for the demons to have a seat before continuing. “You boys look like Hell. You want some tea or anything to settle your nerves?”
“Heh, all the whisky and wine in the world couldn’t stop these shakes,” Yaza said.
Kiba nodded, seemingly understanding what they meant. He then turned to look at Baou. “So, what is it that brought you here? I have a feeling it is more than just paying your respects to the lass.”
Baou nodded slowly. He recognized the room they were in, as the room that they had sat in when they formed their plans to march against Zanatos. He nearly laughed at the memory that seemed like lifetimes ago. As the memories of those days came flooding back, he had a harder time believing that Alex was capable of doing what he had seen. Still, he knew that only one being was capable of that demonic aura and bloodlust that had filled the room. He took a deep breath before beginning. “Kiba, where has Alex gone? I heard from Fuhma that Alex left last night. Is this true?”
“Aye, and I have a feeling you already know the why,” Kiba said softly. He could tell by the look in Baou’s eyes that he had guessed correctly. His appearance became graver as he asked, “Have you seen him?”
“Yes, or at least, I think it was him,” Baou said slowly. He had finally managed to gain control over himself, and the fear had slowly started to release his grasp. Still, he could tell that he was far from getting over what had happened.
“What do you mean?”
“The man known as Alex, I’m afraid, is no more. We came upon a man dressed all in black. His face was covered in black bandages, and he was wearing the necklace that Alex gave to Brittany. He fought us, and he handed us our ass’s. The man we fought with was undoubtedly Alex, but I’m not sure if it was the Alex I had once known. In his eyes I could see anger and rage. I didn’t feel threatened by him however, that is what’s really bothering me. Well, that and what we saw.”
“What did you see, lad? Whatever it was that you saw in the cave, it must’ve been bad to shake you up like this.”
“Heh, you’ve got no idea. It was horrible. Well, to be honest, the cave itself wasn’t that bad. It was just the whole feeling you got from it. Never before have I ever encountered anything like that. The demonic energy in that room was unlike anything I could describe. It nearly suffocated us, it was that strong. The room was filled with that and bloodlust. It overwhelmed our senses, and just the energy alone scared the Hell out of all of us. I don’t know what kind of monster could’ve done that, I don’t even think Razriel could’ve had such a fierce bloodlust as this. Even the demonic energy seemed like it was consumed with it. Still, only Razriel, only Alex could’ve had that much demonic energy to create something like that. He had told us that he was the one who killed those men. I could still smell the blood on him during our fight.”
“I was afraid of this,” Kiba said sadly. “He has chosen his path, and that path has lead him into the darkness. Alex is a soul who despite all he has done, has still remained pure in his ambitions. His is a soul untainted by the darkness. I believe that lass has something to do with that. Now that he has chosen a path that will lead him to darkness, his soul, his heart, his humanity, these things would not allow him to commit such a horrendous act. His pride and honor, would not normally allow him to attack the innocent, but his despair and sorrow have shoved those notions aside. Thus, due to his pure soul being unable to cope with what he has done, he has reawakened his darker side. The side that he had overcome because of his devotion to the lass, has now returned due to that same devotion. Razriel has returned to finish what Alex started. He will give his all to bring the lass back, regardless of how much blood he has to spill to do it.”
It was now Baou’s turn to look downcast and forlorn. He shook his head sadly at Kiba’s words. “So, he’s going to try and bring her back through necromancy?”
“Aye.”
“To do that, he has to sacrifice lives. The Cult of Rajah, it’s members should’ve given him enough to do it. They had almost a hundred members. If all he had to kill was them then it’ll be okay. They were thieves and killers, their death was coming to them anyways. Yet something doesn’t make sense. On the cave wall there was something that he wrote. He said fifteen down, eight-five to go. There were almost if not more than a hundred demons there. Why would he only count fifteen?”
“Alex believes that to bring Brittany back as she was, he must sacrifice a hundred humans. Remember, Alex was once human, but demons were used to bring him back and thus he became a demon hybrid. He doesn’t want that to happen to the lass.”
“Shit,” Baou cursed. He suddenly paled as a new realization dawned on him. He could tell that Scriar and Yaza were thinking the same thing as they began grasping their weapons tightly. “Alex said before he left that he was going towards the Central Realm. That is where all the human villages are! If we let him get away with this there will be an uprising from the humans, which could end up badly if the mages take their side. We’ve got to keep Alex from doing anything to those humans!”
Already Baou was standing up, as were Scriar and Yaza. Baou looked at Kiba with a face that showed he hated what he was about to do, but at the same time he knew he must.
“I am truly sorrow for what I must do. I know that Alex was like a son to you. He was like a brother to me. Still, I must inform my Captain about this. Our forces are training at the border of the Western Realm. If I can get there in time we might be able to cut Alex off and stop him. That won’t make fighting him any easier though. Both because of the fact that I’m not sure if we’ll actually be able to stop him, and the fact that despite what he may be doing, I’m pretty sure there’s no one within the borders of the Demon Realm that would want to bring any harm to Alex. All of the Demon Realm mourned at the loss of Brittany, she was a hero here. Hell, some might even agree with what Alex is doing. But we can’t take that risk. So please, forgive me incase I must fight him.”
“Aye, I was afraid it would come to this. Normally, I’d ask you not to hurt him. Given the circumstances however, I’d think it would be better if I wished you luck instead.”
Kiba’s grim words only helped to remind Baou that if he did in fact have to fight with Alex again, it would probably be his last. Alex had fought them before, but Baou could sense that he really didn’t want to fight them. If they tried to stop him however, Alex wouldn’t be so nice as to hold back. Especially if he really has once again become Razriel. If that was the case, Baou shuddered to think of what would happen to them.
“If we do have to face Alex, be it him or Razriel that we face, the outcome will probably be the same. I just pray that we’ll be able to talk some sense into him before it comes to that,” Baou said softly.
