Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ Aura Control ( Chapter 26 )

A cold chill washed over the two demons as the hard truth of Brittany’s words ad finally hit them. It wasn’t the fact that she had said this that had bothered them. The truth of the matter was, the thoughts that they had both thought was the real reason for their sudden fear. Both knew what the other was thinking, and it was because of that thought that they had looked away in shame. Each one thinking one thing.
Alex has died once before. That means he can be killed. If we kill him, we will survive. If we kill him, he will be with Brittany and everyone will be better off.
“We can’t kill him. We can’t kill our friend,” Shadow said softly. “What’s the point of living if the only way we can do it is by killing a friend? If we can’t talk some sense into him then I’d rather perish than know that I killed my friend just so I could live longer.”
When Shadow looked up to where Brittany was standing, he realized that she was already gone. Shadow sighed and turned to Aurora. He could tell that even though he had made up his mind, he saw that Aurora was having a harder time.
“Aurora, we can’t do that. We can’t kill Alex,” Shadow protested. He heard the sound of crying, and at first he thought that Brittany had returned again. When he turned around and didn’t see Brittany, he realized the person crying was Aurora. “Aurora, what’s wrong?”
Aurora looked up at Shadow, her face and fur was wet with tears. “Shadow, you say you couldn’t do it for the sake of our lives. You say you wouldn’t fight him to save us, with that, I agree with you. I couldn’t live knowing I had to kill him to do it. Still, for the sake of our pups, for the sake of our own children, I will do what it takes to ensure their safety.”
It took a second for Aurora’s words to register with Shadow. When they did, his eyes lit up with joy and question. “Wait...do you mean? Do you really mean it Aurora?”
Aurora nodded and despite the situation smiled. “I found out this morning when I left to go talk to Simera. I’m already three weeks pregnant. Shadow, we’re going to have a baby.”
Shadow didn’t know what else to do or say, so he just grabbed hold of Aurora and held her tightly to him. The two embraced, and for a moment, it seemed as if nothing was wrong. Still, despite his new found happiness, Shadow couldn’t help but think about Brittany’s words.
This changes things. I can’t help but feel guilty at the thought of being happy at a time like this. Also, now I’m terrified that I might soon suffer the same fate as Alex, and that his reality might soon become mine as well. Now more than ever I am unsure of what to do. Now more than I ever I can understand why Alex is doing what he is. I know now, that if anything were to happen to Aurora I would kill to bring her back. Yet at the same time, I realize that if I don’t do something about Alex, I might lose my wife and child like he did. What am I going to do?
“I think we’d better go talk to Kiba,” Shadow finally said. Aurora nodded in agreement and in a matter of seconds they were off.
Even though Baou was gliding in the air, his strong wings carrying him over the tree tops, he couldn’t escape the darkness of his own heart. His mind was a jumble of confused thoughts. Thoughts that he knew were not the signs of a healthy or rational mind.
I’ve got to report all of this to the Captain. He’d have my head if I didn’t, and also there are too many lives at risk if I don’t. Still, if I go and tell the Captain he’s sure to amass an army, probably those recruits we just trained, and send them to try and stop him. But how in the Hell do you stop a Devil? It doesn’t matter how many we send, he’ll slaughter us all. I don’t want to be anywhere around him if he really has become Razriel once more. Yet, despite all that I can’t help but feel that I need to talk to him. Dammit, I don’t know why in the Hell I’m doing this, but something tells me I’ll hate myself more if I don’t.
Baou turned in the air and descended slowly. He landed in front of Yaza and Scriar, who had been following on foot while he flew. Both stopped and watched as he descended, once he had they quickly realized that something was bothering him.
“What’s up? You look as if you’ve seen a ghost,” Scriar replied dryly. He rested his axe on the ground and leaned on the hilt. Baou knew that Scriar and Yaza were just as nervous as him. This was a feeling that none of them were accustomed to.
“I’m going to go talk to Alex. He can’t have gotten that far. I should be able to catch up to him before he reaches the village,” baou announced.
“What! Are you crazy?” Yaza exclaimed. “You’ll be ripped to shreds worse than those assassins. What in the Hell are you thinking?”
“I don’t know! But I know that I have to go talk to him,” Baou snapped. Yaza thought twice about making any further comments, even though it was obvious that he wanted to.
Scriar sighed and shook his head. “Fine, I know that there’s no stopping you once you have your mind made up. We’ll go and inform the Captain of what’s going on. You go talk to Alex, and depending on whether or not you come back depends on what we’ll do.”
“Depending on whether or not I come back,” Baou repeated slowly. “Listen, tell the Captain not to move or to assemble the troops until I get back. If I’m not back by sundown, go ahead and get them ready. Because if I’m not back by then, then I’m probably not coming back at all.”
“Spoken like a true warrior,” a voice announced in a sneering tone.
The three demons turned to see three elves walking out of the woods. One of which, they recognized to be the leader of the elves.
“What are you doing here Rire?” Baou said with obvious disgust. Despite both their loyalties to Alex, neither one had developed any sort of friendship in the time they had known each other. There was more of a mutual agreement not to kill the other while they slept, but that was as close as they had gotten.
“I’m here same as you. Evidently a lot has happened since Brittany’s death. Simera contacted me yesterday and told me that I should check up on Alex. She informed me of Alex’s condition and his actions, and now I’m going to see if the what they say is true,” Rire explained.
“Great, so now I have travel buddies,” Baou replied, rolling his eyes as he did so.
“I owe Simera a favor, and if indeed Alex has once again become Razriel, then I’m sure you’ll think twice about my accompaniment. Besides, unlike you, I am not susceptible to the influences of demonic power.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, you’ve become overrun by someone else’s demonic energy. It’s steeped itself into your very blood stream from what I can tell. I can see your aura, and I can see another demonic aura surrounding yours. It’s consuming you and in the process allowing who ever controls the aura to affect you as well,” Rire stated plainly. He then looked at the three demon’s and raised his eyebrow in a questioning look. “Have you been feeling any different lately?”
Author's Note: Yay! I'm finally FREE! Which means I should have a lot more time to work on my story and to update some. I'll have to get a job soon, but still that shouldn't be as near as bad as school, so I should still be able to do a lot more. ANYway, I hope you like the update. Also, I want to thank greengal48 for all the wonderful questions. Trust me, everything will eventually be answered. Also, as I believe I've stated before, everything will get a lot more confusing before it becomes clearer. Cya.
