Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ The Five Point Pentagram-First Point ( Chapter 33 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
“Alex, we don’t want to have to fight you! Just let Rire purify the other essence and you’ll be back to your old self. Everything will be better then. He did it for me, and he can do it for you,” Baou pleaded. Even then he tightened his grip on his spear just the same.
Rire could sense the purple aura around Alex begin to spike violently. He knew that any second the rational part of Alex that had battling the other demonic influence would soon be overwhelmed. Rire knew that when that happened, they’d be in trouble.
Rire grabbed hold of his right wrist and prepared himself to cast the purification spell. “Baou, make sure to cover me okay. We don’t stand a chance unless I can purify him. He’s not only able to tap into his own demonic power, and the extra power of the crystals, but the demonic essence that is controlling him, is also adding to his strength. So be careful.”
Baou nodded, knowing all to well that what Rire really meant was, if they don’t purify the essence more innocent people would die. They knew that just by coming here, their deaths were already assured. Baou readied his spear and tensed his muscles. “Let’s do this.”
Rire nodded in agreement and hastily began his spell. “Amatsu kaen henshou akanui. Shao kon demo-nisshu joukia!”
Blue flames erupted from Rire’s right arm. They engulfed all of his forearm without burning any of the skin.
This is only the first part of the spell. I won’t be able to use the other part until after I have completed the pentagram. Now comes the hard part. I had hoped that I would never have to use this spell. I know that without it however, we stand no chance of winning.
“Bodi houmen, ippai kensei!”
Baou didn’t know what spell Rire had just used. He did however, notice that Rire’s muscles nearly doubled in size, as did his own spiritual energy.
A spell to increase his power. Not too shabby of an idea, Baou thought.
Alex however, instantly recognized the spell that Rire was using. Heh, so he’s so desperate that he’s actually going to use that. The double sword of all spells. It grants the owner massive strength, speed, and energy, but in return, the owner dies after thirty minutes. He has resigned himself to death.
“We have thirty minutes. Cover me,” Rire said. Even though Baou didn’t know what he meant by the time limit, he was still prepared for anything.
Alex knew what the spell Rire had used had done to him. Still, he wasn’t prepared for the over all effects that it would have. Rire suddenly disappeared from his sight of vision. When he reappeared, he was crouched beneath Alex’s shoulder level. His glowing right arm aimed for his chest!
Rire took a chance and launched himself at Alex. He managed to make one point of the pentagram on Alex’s chest and was about to aim for the second one, when suddenly an enormous force of energy sent him flying backwards. Rire collided with a tree, snapping it at the base. If it hadn’t been for the spell he had just used, Rire was sure that the sheer force of impact would’ve ended his participation in this fight for a good while. He stared at Alex, trying to figure out what had hit him.
Baou quickly launched himself at Alex the moment he saw Rire appear in front of him. Baou held his spear firmly as he flew just inches off of the ground toward Alex. The moment he neared him, he saw Rire being sent reeling backwards into a tree. Baou didn’t have time to wonder about his companions condition before he, himself, was now Alex’s opponent. He swung his spear in a blur of motion aiming to connect with Alex’s shoulder. Alex didn’t even attempt to dodge the attack. Instead he just stood still as a rock, as if he was waiting for Baou’s attack to come. Baou couldn’t see the smirk form on Alex’s lips due to the mask, but when he saw Alex’s eyes light up, he knew he had made a mistake. His spear stopped just inches from Alex’s shoulder, held firmly in place by some invisible force. Alex then turned his attention to Baou, and with a swift open palmed punch, sent Baou flying backwards away from him. Right before Baou collided with some trees, Alex was right above him. Alex backhanded Baou towards the ground, saving him from hitting the trees, but at the same time allowing him to collide with the rocky ground.
Rire couldn’t believe what he had just seen. He silently prayed that he was wrong, but at the same time, he knew what he had seen. It had only been but for a brief second, but that was all it took for him to realize why Baou’s spear suddenly stopped. It took only that second for him to realize what had hit him. It took him only that second to realize that no matter what they did, there was no hope that they could succeed.
That monster! It’s that dark aura! It moves to protect him, shielding him from attacks. Not only does it give him strength, it now shields him also!
Alex stood above the crumpled form of Baou. His body had created a small crater when he landed, thus allowing Alex to watch as he struggled to get up. “Pathetic.”
Alex swiftly kicked Baou in the stomach, sending him crashing into some trees next to Rire. Alex then looked up, and noted the look of fear upon Rire’s face. When the two made eye contact however, Alex lost some of his former confidence.
These are my friends! They are doing everything within their power to stop me, even sacrificing their lives in the process, just to stop me. I know them, they wouldn’t risk their lives unless they knew that what they were doing was right. They have resigned themselves to death. I can sense it, they came here to die. They came here knowing they would die by my hands. Am I really that heartless, to kill men doing only what they believe to be right?
Rire saw Alex’s eyes flicker for a moment. In that moment, a look of uneasiness swept over his face. Rire saw the indecisiveness take hold of Alex’s features, momentarily halting his brutal assault. Along with his sudden halt, the demonic aura that had acted as a shield settled down momentarily.
This is good. Alex is still debating whether or not to fight us, whether or not he should kill us. That means there is still hope. Alex’s will is strong, he still has some control. Now’s my chance. I can’t let it go to waste!
Rire launched himself at Alex once again. He knew that while Alex was battling within himself, that this was the time to strike. He had to try and hit the other four points. Rire’s motions were nothing but a blur. Baou saw him move, but Rire was much faster than he had thought, and he lost sight of him after that. He didn’t even see Alex react. It wasn’t until he heard a sickening thud, and saw Rire’s body flying through the air and Alex’s raised fist that he realized what had happened.
Rire rolled on the ground, stopping right before hitting some trees. He tried to catch his breath, but the moment he did he felt pain shoot up his sides.
He broke some ribs with that one. Fuck it! I’m going to die regardless of what he does to me. But I’ll be damned if I die before I finish that pentagram, Rire thought. He quickly drew three arrows from his quiver and readied his bow. Alex was still standing still as a statue, his mind torn between conflicting ideals. Rire saw Baou ready his spear, neither one needed the other’s instructions. They knew what to do.
Baou launched himself at Alex, swinging his spear to catch Alex in the chest. Alex quickly disappeared the moment the spear was about to hit him. Without waiting, Baou launched himself into the air, knowing that was where he would find Alex waiting for him. Sure enough, the moment he ascended he saw the ground where he was standing disintegrate from Alex’s own attack. Baou looked above him once more to see Alex come crashing towards him. Baou prepared to lunge his spear, but a movement to the side of him caused him to delay his attack.
“Soutei ya!” Rire’s arrows crackled with blue energy. The moment he released them, they flew toward Alex with incredible speed.
Alex was descending upon Baou, who he knew was preparing for a lunge attack. The fact that he suddenly halted his attack, caused Alex to wonder what was going on. It was then that he saw the glowing forms of three arrows sail towards him. Alex managed to twist his body to dodge two of them, but the third stabbed into his right side. Suddenly a blue wire shot forth from that arrow and connected it to the other two. Those arrows then started spinning, twirling the glowing blue wire completely around Alex’s waist, pinning his arms to his sides. Baou took advantage of Alex’s helplessness and brought his spear crashing down onto Alex’s head. He looked with satisfaction as Alex rocketed toward the ground.
“Don’t look too smug. We still have a job to do, and those things won’t hold him for long,” Rire yelled as he dashed toward the falling form of Alex. The moment Alex landed, Rire was already upon him. He quickly struck at Alex’s chest, creating the mark for the second point of the pentagram. Rire went to make the third point, but before he could he saw Alex’s eyes pop open. He then felt an enormous amount of demonic energy begin to surge around him. Rire quickly jumped away from Alex, just as Alex’s body erupted with demonic power. The shockwaves shattered the ground around him and vaporized the cords that had bound him.
Alex stood and popped his neck glaring at Baou and Rire as he did so. He felt blood trickle down his face from where Baou’s attack had cracked his skull. Shit, even my body and healing factor are suffering from me not using my powers. Maybe I should use them, just a little so that my body won’t be so damn weak. No, if I even use a little I might give in to temptation and lose myself to the Devil Armor once more. I can’t do that. At least this has clarified one thing for me. These guys are now aiming to kill me. That means that I should have no problem killing them.
Author's Note: Hello all my faithful readers! Sorry for leaving you guys without an update for so long. Unfortunately I haven't exactly been in the mood for writing, seeing as how one of my friends committed suicide not too long ago. So please forgive me or not being in the best of mood right now. I've been told that I've been slacking and that I'm not showing enough emotion in Alex. I'll admit I have been slacking in the emotion department, but there is another reason beside my increased laziness in that factor. You see, little bit little, Alex is losing any sense of emotion he might have, so it's sort of hard to convey something that isn't there. Don't worry, everything will be explained eventually. Until next time, catch ya later!
