Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ The Five Point Pentagram- Part 2 ( Chapter 34 )

Alex cracked his hands and smiled wickedly, even though the other two could not see it. “This is unfortunate. I had hoped not to have to kill you. Now, it seems you leave me no choice.”
“Maybe if you used some of your demonic power, you would be able to see things more clearly,” Baou said. “Even I can tell that this power you have is not your own. True, maybe now you are more powerful using this, but the fact remains that even though you are stronger, this is not your power! This power you are using is depleting your body of its defenses, its making your healing abilities useless. You’re not even using the power of the crystals! So tell me, why would someone like you sell his soul for this power that is doing him more harm than good?”
“This power that I have is of my own!”
“Then think about it! How can you have so much power, if you’re not even tapping into your own power?”
The dark aura surrounding Alex pulsated madly. Intensifying with every passing second. Rire knew that if they waited any longer to strike, the dark aura would gain too much power, and they would never be able to pass through Alex’s shield.
Baou’s words, true as they may be, are only intensifying his rage. That is something that we don’t want to happen! Besides, I highly doubt Alex is appreciating being told the truth in his current state. We can’t wait any longer. We’re running out of time. It’s either now or never.
“Soutei kusari no matsuro!” Rire chanted. Blue cord launched themselves out of Rire’s right hand, slamming themselves into Alex. The cords wrapped around his arms and legs binding him tight. Rire pulled his arm towards him, snapping the cords which pulled Alex toward him.
Alex wasn’t expecting what Rire had just done, but he quickly turned the situation into his favor. He positioned his body so that the moment he reached Rire, he would be able to slice him in half. Even so, just as Alex hadn’t been prepared for Rire’s first spell, he wasn’t prepared for the second one either.
Right as Alex reached him, Rire slammed his foot into the ground and cast another spell. “Kudakeru chikyu!”
The earth around his foot exploded into the air sending sand flying all over Alex. The cords around Alex’s limbs suddenly let go, and before Alex realized what had just happened Rire cast yet, another spell. “Chikyu fuujikomeru!”
All the sand that had surrounded Alex, suddenly came crashing down on top of him. Alex tried to lash out at the sand, unsure of what Rire’s intentions were and knowing too well what Rire was truly capable of. The moment his hand connected with what should have been sand, Alex quickly realized what had happened. All the sand that had surrounded him had been turned to hard stone. Forming a concrete cage to try and contain him.
Rire looked at Baou, who had already anticipated Rire’s moves and immediately set upon his own action. Baou descended from the sky and using the momentum from his descent to add power to his full force swing. His spear collided with the concrete cage, decimating it and sending its remnants flying everywhere. Two pairs of eyes quickly scanned the rubble that was left from the cage, hoping to find the stunned form of Alex. They scanned the area to make sure, but just as they had feared there was no sign of Alex anywhere among the debris.
“Shit, where is he?” Baou cursed.
As if on cue, Rire felt something behind him. He turned around just in time to see the ground beneath his feet give way and Alex lunging at him from beneath the ground. Before Alex could grab hold of Rire, Baou launched himself at Alex.
Alex saw Baou coming, and quickly diverted his attention to his demonic foe. Baou swung once again for Alex’s chest. Alex launched himself at Baou, twisting his body so that Baou’s spear passed harmlessly over his body. At the position Baou was, Alex doubted that he would be able to recover in time to save himself. Alex was only a few feet away from tearing Baou’s chest apart. Suddenly, Alex saw Baou twist his spear in mid spin, using the momentum to bring the blunt end of his spear crashing towards Alex’s skull.
For a second, Baou thought he had Alex. Much to his disappointment however, Alex’s demonic aura shielded him from the impact. Even so, when Alex tried to finish through with his attack, Baou flipped his spear and stabbed the bladed point into the ground, positioning it so that Alex’s hand would strike his spear instead of him. Baou barely managed to block Alex’s attack with his spear, but it held firm against the attack. Baou then shoved Alex off of him, allowing Baou some breathing room.
Alex launched himself at Baou once again, knowing that he had the upper hand. Baou attempted a thrust at Alex’s right shoulder, but Alex easily dodged it. Before he could get close enough to strike at Baou however, Baou launched another attack at Alex’s opposite shoulder. Every time Alex thought he had a chance to attack one of Baou’s open spots, he was sent backwards by another one of Baou’s attacks. Baou launched a series of furious attacks, each one Alex either dodged or allowed his demonic aura to deflect.
Baou attempted to strike at Alex’s feet. He lunged at Alex’s right leg, but Alex sidestepped his first attack. Baou then stabbed at Alex’s other leg, when that failed he swung low at Alex’s ankles. Alex quickly launched himself into the air, aiming to come crashing down onto Baou’s skull. As Alex was descending, he caught a glimpse of glowing objects heading towards him. Even without fully seeing them, he instantly knew what they were. Alex twisted in air and sent a wave of demonic aura toward the three binding arrows that Rire had launched at him. The demonic aura collided with the arrows sending them crashing toward the ground. When Alex turned his attention back to Baou, he had only a small second to react as the sound of beating wings and rushing air came toward him. Alex pulled his body back as far as he could, just as Baou passed by him.
“Heh, the air is definitely your territory. So let’s see if we can clip your wings,” Alex declared. He clawed at the black band that was wrapped around his right arm. He pulled it free and put some of his demonic energy into it. Once he did that, it was as if the wrap was an extension of his body. Just like those demon assassin’s did with their chains. This should work.
“Let me show you something I just learned!”
Alex launched the wrap like a whip, aiming it for Baou’s ankle. The wrap hit its mark and wrapped around Baou’s leg, and immediately went taunt. Alex went to pull Baou toward him, only to have five arrows hit him in the back. The arrows exploded on impact covering Alex’s line of vision with a thick dust that not even his eyes could see through.
Alex did however, feel the rushing wind coming toward him once again. Even though he couldn’t see, he could still sense Baou’s demonic aura. Alex instinctively reached out and grabbed hold of the spear that he knew Baou was holding. The spear sliced Alex’s hands, but he didn’t care. He tried to slow their descent, but was unable to. Both the demon smashed into the ground sending shockwaves through the forest.
Baou’s spear dug deep into Alex’s flesh. Still, he knew that wouldn’t stop him. Baou quickly pulled his spear out and jumped backwards. Just as Alex flipped into a standing position. Blood poured out of Alex’s wounds. He closed his eyes, feeling slightly woozy from the loss of blood.
I’ve got to use some of my power. If I don’t, my wounds won’t heal, Alex thought. He had already used his own aura on his arm wrap and nothing bad had happened. Besides, he needed his healing ability.
Rire was both glad and frightened that Alex’s own demonic aura was now coursing through his body. On the one hand, this could mean that he would be able to fight off the demonic presence that was possessing him, saving the lives of many. On the other hand, this could mean that the demonic essence now had access to Alex’s reservoir of power.
Baou too felt the sudden change in Alex. He launched himself at Alex once more, preparing to try and run him through with his spear. Just as Baou thrust his spear, Alex twisted his body, grabbed hold of the spear with his left hand, and slashed Baou across the face with his right hand. Baou fell to the ground if only for a second, and but that was all Alex needed to turn his attention toward Rire, who was heading straight for him. Alex quickly turned on Rire, the back of his fist connecting with Rire’s face, sending Rire flying backwards. Rire dropped his bow as he was sent flying, a mistake that he knew would cost him dearly.
Alex launched himself at Rire, and despite him not knowing what the ethereal flame was that consumed Rire’s hand, he knew he should be wary of it. The moment he neared Rire, Rire attempted to hit him with his flaming fist. Alex’s aura stopped Rire’s attack, but what he wasn’t expecting was Rire to draw a dagger with his left hand and try to stab Alex in the chest, right as Alex tried to slash at him. Alex jumped off of the ground, propelling himself over Rire’s blade and positioning him right behind Rire.
It was in that second of confrontation that Rire saw the true weakness to Alex’s aura. He shouldn’t of had to jump over my blade. His aura should’ve protected him. It was blocking my attack, that is, unless he knew his aura couldn’t protect him. Which means if it’s blocking one thing, it can’t block another.
Rire quickly turned around just as Alex’s feet hit the solid ground. He was already moving toward Alex as he yelled. “Baou, do it now!”
Baou stabbed his spear, blade first, into the ground. He watched as Alex looked at him. He saw the shock register on Alex’s face as he turned from Baou, back to the ground below his feet. He tried to get out of the way, but it was too late.
Author's Note: Eh, I'm not going to say to much. Just got through watching some of the Ancient Egypt Yu-Gi-Oh episodes, and got some ideas from that ; ), so you might see some of that stuff coming into play much later on in the story. ANYway, hope you like the new chapter. Please review, hey what can I say, I'm a comment whore, lol. Honestly though, if you like it please review, I love to hear feedback. Even if you hated it please review, I just won't like it at much ; ). Catch ya later! Oh yeah, before I forget! This fight scene, which is fairly long, is my favorite one that I've written so far. So let me know what you think.
