Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ To Fight Those That Can No Longer Fight ( Chapter 52 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
The armies of the Eastern Realm made their way toward the destroyed remnants, of what used to be a thriving village. Rain was pouring down by this time, and lightning streaked the sky. The demonic presence that surrounded the destroyed village was so intense, that several of the soldiers couldn’t get near it. The aura itself was frightening. It was a combination of hate, rage, sadness, and most of all loss. Aurora was literally stunned by the waves of demonic energy that flowed all around them. After all this time, she had forgotten just how powerful Alex could be when he wanted. Yet, there was something different about his aura, something that she was expecting to be there wasn’t. Even though his demonic aura was intense, she couldn’t sense any form of malice or bloodlust anywhere among his emotions. The anger and hate that was being emitted, she felt like that was directed more at himself than at anyone else. These new things made her wonder just what truly was going on around here.
Before Aurora got the chance to ponder this any further, a soldier began yelling something that shook her out of her thoughts. It took Aurora to register what the soldier was yelling, but once she did, she felt her heart jump to her throat. She could feel her heartbeat increase and a sense of worry began to sweep over her. She could barely believe that she was losing her resolve so quickly, but still, the words the soldier said weren’t exactly comforting.
“He’s over here! We found him! It looks like he’s holding something, and he’s surrounded by bodies. There’s no telling if they’re alive or dead, but judging by all the blood, he slaughtered them all. Man, wife, and child, all killed by his hands,” the fox demon that Aurora knew was named Lira called out to Raion.
Raion nodded and motioned for his troops to halt. He turned around and faced them. His face was grave, as was his demeanor. His voice was uncharacteristically soft for him. It was almost in a whisper as he spoke. “Tonight, we do something that is unprecedented. We are going to fight the Lord of the Demon Realm. It took well over a thousand wraiths, the second most powerful mage in this realm, and the power of four demons, each of which’s power far surpasses that of our own, just to bring him down. I won’t lie, we’re walking into our own deaths by doing this, but we don’t have any other choice. To save this realm, we must kill it’s Lord. Now, either we go home victorious, or we don’t go home at all. Form up, and spread out. I want this rank to encircle around and try to get him from behind. You there, take your squad and move to his side.”
Aurora didn’t pay any attention to the orders that Raion was giving. Her eyes were watching the ember flames dancing around the ruins of the village. The flames were slowly dying due to the rain, but still they were strong enough to cast eerie shadows. Through the shadows, she thought she saw the kneeling form of Alex, but when she looked again, there was nothing there. She wanted to see him, she wanted to see if he was indeed as bad as everyone had said. In her heart, she couldn’t believe that he would turn to the darkness and let his pain consume him as it had. Still, she couldn’t overlook what he had done. She knew that for the sake of the realm, and for the sake of her child, she would have to fight Alex until the very end.
“Aurora!” Raion yelled.
‘Huh, yes sir?” Aurora asked.
“Pay more attention. I’ve already sent my men into position. Now, I promised Shadow that I would protect you, but unless you get your head in the game, there’ll be no need for you to come any farther. I am going to have enough of my men die tonight, without having them have to cover for your inability to do what needs to be done,” Raion growled.
Aurora took a deep breath and nodded. “You don’t need to worry about me. When it comes down to it, I’ll do what needs to be done.”
“You’d better. Stay close to me. We’re going to try and flush him out.”
“Are you sure that’s a bright thing to do?”
“Heh, we’re going up against the most powerful being in this realm. Nothing we do from this point out will be considered bright.”
Aurora nodded and watched as Raion made several hand gestures to his men. The leaders of the separate groups nodded and quickly began to move out. “Now is when things start to get interesting.”
Alex’s tears covered Cherish’s face, almost more than the rain. He was completely drenched from head to foot, kneeling in a puddle of mud, water, and blood. He could sense the presence of the approaching demons, but he didn’t care. The way he felt right now, death would be a much better option that living with the pain he felt right now.
Not only have I lost the love of my life, and my own child, I’ve now stained my hands with the blood of the innocent. At least if I die, I will get to see Brittany again. Maybe, maybe death wouldn’t be that bad. It couldn’t be any worse than living, knowing that you will never see the love of your life again, and being haunted by the memories of all the people you have killed.
By now, Alex could hear the rustling of leaves and the cracking of wood as the demons began to encircle him. Still, he never once looked up. The only thing he could focus on right now, was the little girl whom he was holding in his arms. Her small and frail body, looked even smaller compared to his form. Her pale skin made her look like an angel. An angel being held by the Devil.
“Cherish, I’m sorry. You didn’t deserve to die, especially not by my hands. Maybe my death can atone for my sins,” Alex whispered. It was then that a new thought came to him.
If I died, then there deaths truly would be in vain. If I let myself get killed, what then will their deaths have been for? Think Alex, have I really become that much of a brainless twit since Brittany’s death? I was being controlled when I killed them. The only way that I know that you could be controlled as I was, is through using your demonic aura to consume the other person’s aura. At least that’s the only thing that makes sense to me. Seeing as how everyone was talking about another essence surrounding me, that’s the only logical solution. Heh, when in the Hell has my life ever been logical? I need to find Raza. He knows more about this than he’s letting on. I bet if anyone could tell me who the bastard is that did this to me, who made me do this things, it’s him.
Alex bent over and gently kissed the top of Cherish’s forehead. He moved her hair out of her eyes and moved it behind her hair. To him, she looked so peaceful and innocent, just as she had before she died. Alex moved and laid her body on the ground. He slowly placed her hands over one another, and tried his best to smile as he looked at her.
“I’m so sorry Cherish, but mark my words, when I find the bastard that made me do this, I’ll make him pay. I’ll make him pay for fucking with my mind, for fucking with my emotions and toying with my heart. But most of all, I’m going to make him pay for making me do this,” Alex solemnly vowed.
Alex stood and looked around. Even in the darkness of night, with only the lightning from the sky to give an aid to the pitch black, he was still able to see everything as bright as day. His blue eyes shone brightly in the darkness. Two cold blue orbs, as pale as death itself. He could see every demon that made their way slowly toward him. He could sense their fear, but he could also sense their intent and resolve to kill him.
My mind’s been in a daze for so long, and I’ve been blinded for so long, that I can barely cope with being able to use my powers again. I can actually see again. Not through eyes that are clouded by the darkness, but with eyes that see the truth. I’ve got to find Raza, but these guys aren’t exactly going to let me walk out of here. Not without fighting me. They’ve come here for blood, lucky for them I’ve seen enough for one night. Right now I’m not in a mood for fighting, so I’ll make sure not to kill any. They just better as Hell hope they don’t piss me off, Alex thought as he readied himself for a fight with the demons that were edging closer toward him.
