Fan Fiction ❯ Trancending Death ❯ The Tomb ( Chapter 61 )

Alex stood before the entrance of what he knew must be the cave that contained the dagger that he searched for. Two large stone doors kept the entrance of the cave sealed, but that mattered little to Alex. He grabbed hold of the doors with his hands, and with a mighty pull, opened them. Allowing him entrance into the inside of the cave. Once inside, however, he realized this cave wasn’t a cave at all.
“It’s like a fucking tomb,” Alex muttered as he walked inside. In front of him stood several statues of different types of demons. Along the walls, different rune symbols were engraved all along the walls. To Alex, this place reminded him of an ancient Egyptian tomb, and knowing Scion, this place was probably full of traps just as the ancient tombs were.
“It’s a good thing I used to watch all those Indiana Jones movies,” Alex said with a smirk. He then proceeded cautiously through the first room. The moment his foot cross the first statue, he instantly realized that this place was far worse than any Indiana Jones movie could have ever done. For the moment his foot passed the first statue, the statue came alive. With claws bared, it lunged at Alex.
“Holy shit!” Alex quickly jumped forward to dodge the attack, but in doing so, he brought to life more of the statues. Alex ducked and dodged as stone demons of all sorts tried to rip him limb from limb. Alex tried to run through the door and into another room, but the moment he turned for the door it slammed shut. Thus, leaving Alex trapped with the stone demons. Much to Alex’s dismay, even though the creatures were made of stone, that did not impede their speed at all. The stone demons moved just as fast, if not faster than their original flesh and blood counterparts.
“Fine then. If it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’ll get. I’ve been fighting assholes that use weapons all day, it’ll be a good change to fight someone who actually fights fairly. Although knowing Scion, I doubt you guys will go down that easily.”
Alex ducked beneath a stone demon’s hand that slashed a little too close for comfort. Alex quickly came up and slammed his fist into the demon’s head. The demon’s head disintegrated on impact, but before Alex could pull his arm back, it regenerated, forming around Alex and holding his arm fast within it.
“What the Hell? Aww, fuck! Just when I think things are going to be easy,” Alex shouted. He quickly flexed his hand, shattering the demon’s head once again, allowing him to break free. He then kicked the stone demon in the stomach, sending it flying backwards. Alex twirled around, hacking the demons that stood all around him. Even as he swung, the demons began to regenerate the limbs that he hacked off.
When Alex went to kick a demon away from him, his foot got stuck in the demon’s chest, momentarily throwing him off balance. The demons took advantage of Alex’s sudden lose of balance and quickly threw them selves on top of him, forcing Alex to the ground. Alex could feel as their claws dug deep into his skin, ripping chunks of flesh out of him.
Fuck, the one thing I don’t want to use, it seems like I’m being forced to use more and more often. I swear, someone up there fucking hates me!
In a second, the demons that had thrown themselves onto Alex, were thrown off by blood red tentacles. The tentacles slashed and hacked at the demons, but did little damage to them. Even with the power of the Devil Armor, Alex could barely stop the regenerative powers of the demons.
Okay, think Alex. Something’s not right here. If Scion wanted to come back to this place, he wouldn’t create things that he himself couldn’t destroy. So there has to be someway to destroy these things. Let me think, if its Scion we’re talking about, he wouldn’t stand here trying to destroy them with brute force. He’d use magic on them. Here’s hoping my hunch is right. God knows that I’ll be in trouble if its not.
Alex flipped over one of the stone demons, back handing another away from him until he managed to get enough space between himself and the demons to cast the spell. “Kobushi no ano akuma!”
The moment Alex cast the spell, his hands ignited on fire. Flames danced around his hands, but did not burn his hands at all. Alex flexed his hands and allowed the fire to form an orb of fire in his palm. When he looked up, the demons were already upon him.
“Here we go!” Alex launched the first of his fire orbs at the stone demon that was closest to him. The orb exploded on contact, decimating the statue, and turning it to ashes. Ashes, that Alex was glad to see, didn’t come back alive. Alex grinned evilly at the remaining demons, already forming another orb in his hand. “Okay you fuckers, now it’s time to have some fun!”
Alex charged at the demons. He rammed his right hand into a demons chest, forcing the orb into its chest, causing the stone demon to burst into flames. Alex skidded to a halt as a demon lunged at him. He twirled around, dodging the attack, and then launching an orb behind him to destroy it. He flipped over two demons that both charged at him from the front. Once he was behind them, he threw orbs at their backs, causing them too, to turn to ash.
After a few minutes of this, Alex stood surrounded by the ashes of his enemies. He wiped the sweat from his face and turned to the door that had previously been closed to him. It now opened to him, now that all the stone statues were destroyed. “About fucking time,” Alex muttered as he walked through the door. The moment Alex entered the next room, he sighed in relief.
“Good, no more damn statues.” Before going too far in the room, Alex made sure to look it over, just in case there were any traps he needed to be aware of. The room itself was very narrow. The long hallway was completely empty. The only thing that set it out from any other room, were the circular holes that filled up the walls.
“Let me guess. Metal spikes that shoot out from the walls the moment that I step in there. Figures. Indiana Jones, eat your heart out,” Alex sarcastically stated as he mad a mad dash for through the room. He didn’t activate his Devil Armor, just for the simple fact that he didn’t want to for fear that he wouldn’t be able to control it. He did, however, activate his crystal of speed, which he thought would allow him to easily dodge the spikes. The moment his foot hit the corridor, he realized that once again, everything was not as it appeared. For instead of hitting cold stone, his foot felt nothing but air.
Alex looked down in shock as the ground beneath him began to waver, giving way to the bed of hot lava that laid beneath the illusion. “Oh fuck!”
Alex flipped around and grabbed hold of the edge of the stone hallway, to keep him from falling into the lava bed. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me! Indiana Jones gets pygmies with spears, spiders, and a giant falling rock. I get fucking beds of lava, living statues, and who knows what else!”
Alex looked back up at the circular holes in the walls. Silently praying that they were what he had hoped they were. Without wasting another second, he back flipped off of the wall and high into the air. The moment that Alex launched himself into the air, large steel spikes began to launch themselves out of the walls.
Alex realized that he couldn’t be even a millisecond off in his calculations, otherwise he’d end up being skewered again. He twisted in mid-air to avoid being pierced in the stomach by one of the spikes. The moment it flew by him, Alex twisted his lower body, placing his feet on the spike and using it as a brace to launch himself further toward the exit. Alex continued this method, of dodging spikes and using them as a brace to propel himself until he managed to reach the end of the long hallway. Alex fell to one knee, and gingerly extracted a spike that had become in lodged in his right shoulder. His body was covered in several scratches from spikes that came way too close for comfort, and his skin was partially burned due to the lava. All of these would heal quickly, so he payed little heed to them. His only concerned was what all new dangers would lay in store for him once he entered the next room.
After many grueling trails, each of which was harder than the first, Alex finally made it to what he believed to be the last room. Alex stopped for a second and removed the steel blades from his arm and revert back to his human form before entering the large door before him. Once inside, he was glad to see that this was indeed the final room. The room in question was a large circular room with a high ceiling. At the very far end of the room stood two enormous stone statues. Big enough so that Alex only came up to their ankles. In between the statues was a wooden door with rune symbols carved all around. Alex smirked as he realized that, that door must contain the dagger for which he was searching for.
Alex stopped before going too far into the room and looked back at the rooms that he had previously just left out of. “Heh, Raza and the others are going to have a Hell of a time getting through there. Maybe I should head back to make sure they are okay.”
Alex thought for a moment before shaking his head. “Nah, they’ll be fine. I’ve got bigger things to worry about.”
“What in the world are you talking about? We’ve been here waiting for you,” a voice called out from up above him.
Alex quickly looked up to see the faces of Raza, Aurora, Shadow, and Raion stare down at him from a balcony that was placed right above the door he just entered from.
“What the Hell? How did you guys get up there? Better yet, how in the Hell did you beat me here?” Alex asked in surprise.
“We took the door,” Raza stated very calmly.

Author's Note: Now that I read this, I don't think I did too good of a job on the whole, tomb/egyptian/trap theme, what do you guys think? I'm probably going to redo a few parts in this. Oh well, on to the next chapter!
