“Kiba, thank God you’re alright!” Alex exclaimed as he breathed a sigh or relief. Everyone else was visibly calmer now that they knew that Kiba was okay.
“Did I really worry you that much lad?” Kiba asked softly.
“You had us all worried. We thought we’d lost you.”
“For a moment, you had,” Kiba told them. “I’m sorry to have worried you. I guess I’m not as young as I used to be.”
“Don’t talk like that!” Aurora yelled. “Do you know how scared we were? We’re just glad that you’re okay!”
“She’s right. Even Baou and the others tried to help us when you were hurt,” Shadow added.
Kiba smiled and nodded. He then looked around and seemed to notice something. “Where’s the lass?”
All eyes were then upon Alex. He looked to the ground and cursed. “That monster made sure to take everything away from me that he could. He sent Brittany back to the Human Realm. At least, that’s where I hope he sent her.”
“Well then go get her!” Kiba said as he started to get up. He winced in pain and laid back down. “You can’t just leave her there lad.”
“No, she belong there for now. I have no intention of leaving her there for good, but I don’t need to get her until Scion is vanquished for good!”

Alex opened his eyes after taking a deep breath. He was no longer kneeling in a blood soaked battlefield beside his best friend. He was now once again holding Brittany in his arms as he spoke to the council. “After that battle, we perused Scion for nearly six months before we finally managed to corner him. When we caught up to him, he kept speaking about how my mother was right about him not being able to kill me. He then said that he had found a way. A way such that his right hand and my right hand would end my life. I never really understood what it meant, but with Kiba’s help I was able to finally defeat him once and for all.”
“So, you believed him. Even though he was your worst enemy you believed him that your armor had suddenly caused you to become full of bloodlust. Amazing. Your own mother even told you otherwise, and you still believed your enemy,” Zemnas said while shaking his head. “Unbelievable!”
“How was I supposed to know that it was her!” Alex roared.
“Some son you are. Blaming the mother that gave her life for you as the cause of your insanity.”
“I didn’t know!”
“Leave him alone!” Brittany yelled.
“If anyone should be blamed it should be me!” Alcadan added.
“Silence! All of you,” Zemnas ordered. “I was merely stating a fact, nothing more. Now, Lucia, remove Scion’s curse on Alex. Then, it will be time to send Alex back to the Demon Realm. I believe there will be someone there waiting to meet him.”
“Wait! I don’t even know who this Devil is yet! I thought you said I was supposed to know my enemy before I could defeat him,” Alex objected.
“Oh, but you do know your enemy. You know your enemy almost better than you know yourself. If only you’d open your eyes to the truth, you would’ve realized who it was all along.”
Lucia appeared in front of Alex. His hand was glowing with white fire. “I’m going to free of Scion’s curse. It is because of that, that your armor has been acting as it has. He infected your armor with black magic which caused a sense of bloodlust within you whenever you activated your armor. Once I free you of this, it will take about an hour for the effect to be completely neutralized, but once it is, you’ll no longer have to worry about using your armor.”
“So, my armor really is her. My armor really is the soul of my mother isn’t it? And that really was her when Scion almost succeeded in killing me?” Alex asked suddenly.
They all looked at Alcadan who could only nod at first. “Yes, I’m afraid it is true. When your mother brought you back to life, her soul became infused with you. She wanted to become your armor, and thus, through her sacrifice, she was able to do just that.”
Alex nodded solemnly. “After all this time.... If what you say is true, then I’ll have no problem using my armor.” He then looked at Lucia and nodded. “Go ahead.”
Lucia hesitated for a second and looked at Brittany. “One more thing. When I remove Scion’s curse, I will also send you back to the Demon Realm. So you might want to say your goodbyes now.”
Alex’s eyes widened in shock. “What, you mean I’m leaving right now!”
“Yes, I’m afraid we can’t wait any longer.”
Alex started to object but finally nodded in agreement. “Give me just a sec.”
“Yes, of course.”
Alex squeezed Brittany’s hand before letting it go and walking over to Alcadan. Alcadan extended his hand toward Alex, and Alex took hold of it. He then quickly pulled Alcadan into a hug. “Thank you, for everything.”
“Be safe, son. We’ll see what we can do to get your family back together again,” Alcadan replied as tears welled up in his eyes.
Alex released him after a few minutes and turned to Brittany. It was obvious by the way the two exchanged glances that neither one really wanted to depart after finally finding each other. Alex slowly walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her. He couldn’t look her in the eyes as he said his goodbyes to her, because if he did he’d never be able to leave her. Alex held for what seemed like an eternity. Her tears fell across his chest, and he knew that he was killing her once more by leaving her.
“I’ve got to go,” he whispered.
“I know...I know you have to,” Brittany finally replied after a long pause. “Just please...please come back to me.”
“I will,” Alex promised. “We’ll all leave here together. Me, you, and our child. I promise you. Just wait a little longer. Okay? Even when the darkness threatened to consume me, I could still here you calling out to me. Our connection to each other isn’t gone. I can still sense you. I know you’re still a part of me. I will come back to you.”
“I know you will,” Brittany admitted. She backed away from Alex and then leaned forward and kissed him gently on the lips. She took another step back and looked at him. “Remember, you promised.”
“I’ll come back. I always come back,” Alex said with a smile. He then turned to face Lucia before this parting became any more unbearable. “Let’s do it.”
Lucia nodded and pulled his hand back. “You ready?”
“Yes,” Alex said as he closed his eyes. “Lucia...I’m counting on you.”
“Just worry about the enemy that awaits your arrival. I’ll take care of matters up here. You’ll have your child back in your arms and Brittany back in your bed before you know it.”
Alex smiled and nodded. “I can’t wait. But one more thing. What do you think Scion meant when he said his right hand and my right hand would be the death of me?”
“If you can’t figure that out, then you’re already dead,” Zemnas stated. He then nodded to Lucia who immediately readied himself.
“Be safe,” he whispered. He then slammed his fist into Alex’s chest. The white flames spread all throughout Alex’s body. And in a flash of light he was gone, and with him, Brittany’s strength ebbed away. She fell to her knees and cried.
“Please, be safe,” she whispered as Alcadan wrapped his arms protectively around her.

Author's Note: I would write more, but I'm about to go to a football game and see if I can't find a date for homecoming...so wish me luck! ANYway, next chapter starts the end of the story. The final battle is soon to begin, and with it, the revelation of who was controlling Alex!

P.S. By this point, Alex has already figured it out. Have you?
