Usagi Memories, Chapter 2

The door to the classroom opens and Yuki walks inside, making his way to his desk.

"Mr. Yamori, where is Mr. Yujiso?"

"I think he went to the bathroom."

"Very well, I will talk to you two when he returns." The teacher once again, resumes working at his desk while the other students talk amongst themselves.

Kin watches her friend from her desk. She had known for a long time about Yuki's feelings for his best friend. Walking over to his desk and taking a sit next to him she says, "Where's Nanashi?"

"He went in the direction of the bathrooms."

"Thank you." Kin raises her hand.

"What is it Miss Jujinko?"

"May I please go to the washroom?"

"Hurry up." Kin runs out the door and down the hallway in the direction of the washrooms.

When she reaches them, she sees a figure huddled up on the floor next to the boys' washroom.

"Nanashi? What happened?"

"Yuki…he…he told me he loves me."

"He what?!" Kin knew about Yuki's feelings, but she never thought that he'd tell Nanashi.

"It was in…the letter."

"So what's wrong? If you don't feel the same way, then just tell him."

"No, it's because I *do* feel the same way that I can't tell him."

"That doesn't make sense."

"It does. Yuki told me that his dad is moving him away. It'll be better for him if he doesn't know how I feel."

"No it won't."

"Yes it will! If he knows, then he'll blame it on his father and then he'll never get along with him. He'll blame his father for making him move and then he could get into more trouble with him than he already is! And he'll be upset that he may never see me again."

"But still…you should tell him anyways. He deserves to know how you feel."

"No! You don't understand!" Nanashi says, his tone angry. He stands up with a cold look on his tear stained face and runs down the hallway in the direction of the classroom.

Nanashi bursts back into the classroom and sits at his desk, ignoring all the weird looks his classmates were giving him, and laying his head on the top of his desk.

"Mr. Yujiso, have you and your 'friend' talked it out?"

"Yes sir."

"Good." The teacher, starts looking over some papers on his desk, when Kin walks back into the classroom, just in time to see an exchange between Nanashi and Yuki.

Seeing that his friend was upset, Yuki put a comforting hand on Nanashi's shoulder but he shrugs it off and says, "Stay away from me." Before putting his head back on his desk. Hurt, Yuki removes his hand and starts to draw something on a piece of paper, acting as if nothing happened.

Annoyed, Kin starts walking over to the two of them but is stopped at the sound of her twin sister's voice.[1]

"You shouldn't interfere sister." She said, tucking a piece of long dark blue hair behind her ear and out of the way of her silver eyes.

"And what would -you- know Yin?"

"More than you know, sister. Sometimes, even when you think you are helping, you just make things worse. If you interfere, you may permanently damage the relationship between the three of you."

"So what you're saying is, that I should let them work it out themselves."

"Precisely."

"You're crazy."

"The wise are always considered crazy. The real truth however, is that the ones who call others crazy, are the crazy ones."

"Where do you come up with all this nonsense?"

"It's only nonsense to those that cannot comprehend." Turning her attention back to her work, Yin silently dismisses her sister.

~That sister of mine is so creepy…but she does have a good point…~ Contemplating over what her sister said, Kin sits at her own desk to do some thinking.

At the same time in a grade four class…

"So, do you want to come to my house today?" Yukiko Misuki asked her best friend, Miki Yujiso.

"I can't. My mother said that she had something important to tell us. We're supposed to come home right away so I'm walking with my brother." Miki said, turning her head away from the window to acknowledge her friend. The sun making her black hair shiny and her deep blue-green eyes glow.

"You're so lucky that you still live with your brother. Yuki lives with my dad."

"I have a feeling that it won't be the same for long. My parents have been acting different. Something's going on." Miki returns her attention to the window, still listening to her friend speak.

"It's probably nothing. Parents do that sometimes. You can't expect them to be happy with each other all the time, you know?" Yukiko said, absently wrapping her pale blonde hair around her finger and watching her friend with calm spring green eyes.

"I know. This just seems…different somehow. I can't really explain it."

"Don't worry so much."

"I can't help it. I'm worried that my brother will have to live with my dad if anything happens. Even though my brother knows martial arts…he's no match for my dad. He's ten times bigger than he is."

"Yeah, I know. I've seen him."

"If something does happen…I wonder if he'll act the same way your brother does."

"Maybe. But I doubt it. Nanashi's not like that."

"You're right. I guess…"

In a grade three class inside a portable by the window…

"Akio Chiniku! Get back inside!"

"Yes ma'am." A little boy with forest green hair and black eyes comes back into the classroom and sits at a table with two other girls. One, with medium length hair that would be white if not for the tiny trace of pink in it and pale blue eyes. The other, with light brown hair and green eyes.

"Now, Akio, I don't care if it's a nice day outside, that doesn't mean that you can go out and run around. Now finish your work."

"Okay." The two girls start giggling at him.

"Be quiet Kiku." He tells the brunette.

"But you have to admit, it's funny! That's the third time today you've done that!"

"I don't care." Akio crosses his arms and pouts.

"Look Kimiko, he's pouting!" Kiku says to the girl with pink hair.

"Am not!" Akio said.

"Are too!" said Kiku.

"Not!"

"Too!" Both girls said together.

"You three! Get to work!"

"Yes ma'am." The three third graders said to their teacher.

Tbc…

[1] - It says twin because they are those twins (I can't remember what they're called) that look different. In this case, Yin (which means silver in Chinese) and Kin (which means golden in Japanese) have different personalities and hair/eye colour but they still look similar when it comes to facial features and such.
