Spring time (Early April )

--------

The snow had finally melted enough for Baseball season to begin, and Kay and Kenny were getting ready for their first game. Kay easily slipped into her uniform, it fitting her nicely. Kenny's also fit nicely, much to Kay's content. Kay tied her cleats, and stood up smartly, putting her baseball cap on, and pulling her hair through the hole in the back.

"Ready to go?" Kenny asked, playfully batting Kay's arm with his glove. Kay growled and shoved Kenny lightly against the wall to his house's mudroom.

"Yes! Stop messing up my uniform!" Kay warned. Kenny scowled at her indignantly.

"Jeeze! You don't have to be a bi-" Kenny began, shaking his fist at her, when she covered his mouth.

"Shut up! I don't want to hear that kind of language from you!" Kay said, clucking her tounge. Out of the corner of her eye, Kay spotted Trevor, who had come back a few days ago for a visit with his family. She turned to him, and smiled. He smiled back. "You coming to the game, Trev?" Kay asked. Trevor nodded. "Good!" Kay said happily, bouncing out the door. Kenny chuckled, and grinned at Trevor.

"Must be the Skittles she ate," Kenny said. Trevor agreed with a grin. Trevor and Kenny had begun working out some of their differences, thanks to Kay. They were now able to hold a civlilized conversation. Over the winter, Kay and Kenny had not taken their relationship anywhere, much to Kenny's discontent. Kenny wasn't sure what Kay felt anymore, and forced himself to be content with their being just good friends for the time being.

Kenny trotted out after Kay, sliding into her car. They drove to the field, and rushed down to their dugout. Logan scowled at them for being late as they clambered in.

"Took you long enough!" Logan said, frowning. Kenny and Kay cringed.

"Sorry, Coach. It won't happen again," Kay promised. Logan grunted.

"Yeah, ok. We're out in the field first. Kay, get your gear on, and warm up with Kenny. I'll warm up with the other guys while you do." Logan said, barking out orders. The team scrambled to do his biddings quickly.

Soon enough, the game was under way. By the third inning, Spring Meadow was losing by five. If they didn't get one run by the end of the inning, they would lose the game.

"We have to get those five runs up!" Kay said, biting her lip. Kenny was up, she noticed as Kenny fitted his helmet on his head. "Kenny, if you strike out, I will hurt you." Kay threatened. Kenny bit his lip, holding in a laugh.

"Ok, Oh executioner Ma'am." Kenny said in mock severity. Kay growled at him.

"I'm serious. Show me your stance." Kay demanded. Kenny oblidged, and Kay tittered. She pushed his hands up on the bat, pushed his right foot back, as he was a righty batter, and straightened his stance.

"Stand like that." Kay suggested. Kenny shrugged.

"'K." Kenny agreed. When he got up to the box, he did as Kay instructed. It felt wierd to him, but he tried it nonetheless.

Three balls and one strike later, Kenny stood ready, gripping the bat.

"Come on, Kenny! Wait for your pitch!" Kay said, clinging to the fence. This was is. Either they got this run now, or the game was over. Ryan stood on third, begging and pleading for a miracle. Kenny never got hits that were sufficient enough to get someone in. They were hits, yes, but not what they needed. The ball came barrelling in, and Kenny swung, closing his eyes.

He missed. Kay let up a squeal of indignance.

"Kenny!!" Kay yelled. He turned to her, biting his lip. "Don't you dare close your eyes!" Kay howled. Kenny nodded.

"Sorry!" Kenny called, cringing. Logan, sitting in the dugout, was close to tears from all of his chuckling.

"Maybe I should just appoint you Coach, Kay m'girl." Logan said, shaking with mirth. Kay turned and scowled at him.

"That's not funny." Kay said, spitting her tongue out at him. Logan just chuckled some more. Kay quickly turned her attention back to Kenny, shaking the fence lightly. "You better hit this, Kenny!" Kay hissed. Kenny turned, looked at her, and gave her a severe glare. Kay glared flames right back at him.

"Alright, alright." Kenny said, sighing irrittably. When the ball came in, he swung. Oh, did he swing. There was a loud 'Crack!', and the ball sailed out, over the center fieldman's head.

Ryan stood on third, staring at the ball for a moment. Finally, Kay reprimanded him.

"Ryan! Damn you! Move!" Kay yelled, bouncing up and down. Ryan snapped his head toward Kay, and gasped in realization, bolting off towards home. Brandon, who was on second, came up behind Ryan.

"Ryan!! Move!!" Brandon yelled, as Kenny came up behind him. Kenny stopped at third, and both Ryan and Brandon made it home.

Kay jumped up and down with happiness, hugging Ryan and Brandon as they came in.

"Wheee!!! You guys are the best!" Kay squealed. Ryan and Brandon chuckled happily. The game against Fairfield High slowly came to a satisfying end, with Spring Meadows winning. The routine line-up, repetition of 'Good Game' and the winners lap around the field ended the game with finality. Kenny found Kay packing the equippment into the bags, and tapped her on the shoulder, grinning as she turned around. Kay squealed, and hugged him tight.

"You were awesome!" Kay yelled. Kenny laughed.

"That wasn't the impression I got when you were threatening to kill me." Kenny said, rolling his eyes. Kay slapped his chest, chuckling.

"Oh, hush." Kay said, hoisting an equippment bag onto her shoulder, while Kenny got the other. They put the equippment into the shed, locked it up, and gathered their things, heading to their car. They saw Trevor getting on his bike to head home, and they waved at each other as he rode off.

"Let's go for ice cream." Kenny suggested. Kay nodded, and smiled.
